I might be wrong but I think the ship in sea/NLGH folder has an incorrect UnitType (105=Iceberg?).


I improved the recon manual with ship types and bookmarks and jumped into this.

I don't understand for what thing I need this,everything is right,date,start hour year...I was only change sub in second patrol to IXB

I play normally NYGM no ctd,save and load normally

Thinking... wasn't there a way of limiting the radio traffic ?

I'm thinking of 'increasing' the radio traffic with regard to convoys and ships.. even though they are too far away = immersion factor.

From memory the concerned file is in data/Cfg, probably called « contacts »…
I don’t recall having changed anything in there, because I find Stiebler settings quite good :03:
I don’t think in reality U-Boats had that much of contacts given by B Dienst or BDU… but maybe I’m wrong ?
In fact, thinking about, I’d like even less contacts that what we have … but I will leave it like it is for playability :yep:

In the early part of the war, Torpedo failures are simulated by running deep. This get better as the war moves on.

This simulates the failures in early war. You can cheat that with Hsie patch, disable the torpedo fix option.

If I'm not mistaken the Torp depth relied on a 'reference pressure sensor' and a 'current depth pressure sensor'.

The reference pressure sensor would be effected by the heat build up in the sub (when submerged), resulting in a higher reference pressure, which translates to a deeper reference pressure.

So off the Torpedo goes running at deeper depths.

A way to get around this, but works only in calm seas, is to set running depth to minimum depth, or shallower depth but then you run the risk of the torpedo hitting the surface.

I confirm what you've said... don't pick fights in bad weather...
Several times I've had to give up... and wait for the right moment... I even sometimes lose track of some people in very bad weather.
That's what I like about this NYGM and many other things...
The tonnage must be difficult, no success "free" at all, which is very good

Not on holidays, still working hard on next update (early July) :)

Many things have been adjusted and/or corrected.
New cool stuff, and big revision of RND campaign file actually … correcting and adjusting spawning intervals as well as percentages (was never been done).
Also many traffic paths have been adjusted up to Narvik harbor (they used to stop before)…

Hi all! I just installed this great looking modded SH3, Clean install, all leftovers from the document folder are deleted. Career loads up fine, in Wilhelmshaven. After a couple of mins i switched to the navmap and zoom out a bit. Without warning I get a CTD.

Any idea what is wrong?

Sorry but can’t help you on that issue, probably coming from your machine who don’t like something somewhere…
Computers can become sensitive sometimes, maybe when something else is running in background.

oh jeez don't know the name, but its the main one everyone seems to use. Red outside that is "true bearing" and white inside with your course bearing or ships course bearing.

This will elliminate any necessary changes necessary to the ID manual, making the mod universal (more or less :03:)

If you don't like the mod, you can always install a previous version. This is a personal work by Fifi, originally for him. He was kind enough to make it available to the community here, so personal requests are not an option.

This mod is one of the best here and much better than the previous version.
It's challenging when you really get involved in the game. It has all the necessary tools, so let Fifi work. Thank you for your understanding.

FYI, there's no attack disk in Diego's HUD...
In previous versions of Fifi's mod, there was an ARB mod that had an attack disc, I think... Captainzap tinkered with this mod but it wasn't perfect with NYGM SC... besides, Fifi ended up removing it... plus there were problems with the reconnaissance manual and some other details that weren't perfect

The official GWX mod - Knight's Cross Edition v1.0 has it... one of the prettiest I've used.

If you have modding skills, you can certainly adapt it for your own purposes...

Currently re-working from scratch the Black Sea campaign … because many things were wrong (dates/placements/harbors etc)
Also the ships present there were not representative of Black Sea shipyards of both sides! (Quite poor and small/medium size exclusively)

I even recommend to not play it until next July update!

'New' wheel with ship lengths, instead of ship degrees.

Made a few glaring mistakes here, but the method has a fairly good tolerance.

This is just testing, and will alter the wheel slightly.
It can, as it stands, now be used in any major mod.

On a better note, I’m currently testing my Black Sea campaign I have redone …
I tried to make it more representative of what I think it was there…
No huge cargos, quite a poor shipyard (had to deal with what we have - roster has changed a bit), no big convoys, limited traffic (was tough to keep gameplay)
Also, now, you’ll see exclusively Russian planes (when playing x256 max!) from new bases added. German & Romanian have bases too (before the Russian crush)
Azov sea is also more interesting now.

Looking forward to an improved Black Sea Career/Patrol. One of my most memorable escapes was from a NYGM Enhanced patrol in the BS. I sunk a Soviet Merchant and an Escort and they weren't happy campers. Almost like that low hanging Hornet's nest in my front yard, that I messed with, once too often. But anyway. I got away from at least 2 escorts in shallow waters and it took about 6 hours. Afterwards I had trouble falling asleep. I was still pumped. Love BS patrols and Type II"s

I’m afraid I don’t think there are mods around here really compatible with my NYGM (without braking something)… many mods are already included in it :yep:
Furthermore, this mod is already border line with memory (but no CTD as it is). If you add more weight, you are certainly going to have bad surprises !

The only mods I have used are the .tga mods that just change photos such as the radio room picture. They should be ok.

No no, I think it was just miscommunication with how I used the word "should" to imply a possibility, not a demand. I was only replying to another user who was asking about attack discs in this mod, I said to him that I think I have seen attack discs in the mod already so they might ("should") be available. :salute:

I've made some skins for soviet sub, I use it for the big Mod Soviet waterway For SH4. I could get a look to see if this could be adapted to the models you use for your Mod

Could you give me a list of the subs in duty in your Mod ? So I can get a look if I've some stuff that could be matching.

Next step could be to send me the .dat file and make an adaptation of the SH4 version. Like I've done for the project we start with VonDos for years now to build each nation fleet.

First, congratulations Fifi on yet another wondrous mod version. I have great expectations after using v5.9, which was simply amazing. Can't wait to see what all you've done here in v7.8. :salute:
Been on shore leave for a spell since version 5.9, and now returning to sea duty with v7.8. I ran smack into a resolution issue similar to what I initially had with v5.9.

It was not the Fifi mod either time, and the fix may only be of use to anyone with my particular platform specifics, but who knows it may be of help to someone as I see way back in the thread some folks here and there had some resolution issue.

My platform is a Win 8.1, 64 bit, with an Nvidia GTX 980, CPU is an Intel Core I7, 4790K, with 16 gb's memory. Video output is to an LG C2, 48 in. screen. Older PC components but still a workhorse.
Initially neither version of this mod worked. Both zip through the single mission and campaign loads, then sat there with a solid screen freeze. In both instances, the Academy worked fine. Nothing else though.

The LG C2, perhaps other LG's it seems to me, is very finicky with it's scaling of the video output. With v5.9, the fix was merely to enter into the main.cfg file, and change the original resolution setting to 1920x1080. Then it worked out of the box. I have noted that the LG C3 model, I have for an Xbox Series X, has a glitch with older Xbox games, like Skyrim.

Periodically, the LG C3 just wont recognize the video output from Skyrim on the Xbox Series X I use, and will just go into a black screen freeze when the video is supposed to be displayed. Very similar coincidentally to what happens with Fifi's mod(s). Reboot Xbox and issue goes away, but will periodically resurface. Reaching the limits of my technical prowess there, but I surmise that LG has some issue(s) with scaling video output from older games, and not just from a PC.

With this new version of the mod (7.8), an additional step was necessary then to fix the screen freeze. I set the 1920x1080 again in the main.cfg file, which didn't work this time as it had for v5.9. I found that now I needed to also now set the Nvidia card scaling to "override game scaling", and in addition to that, set the Display (not the GPU), to perform the scaling. And voilŕ , it works.

One can google a myriad of discussion on which is best to use for scaling, (Display or GPU), but from my read it's not which one is best, but which one works. The consensus of thought out there being, technically if all else is equal, using the Display to perform the scaling will save on PC resource.

Thank you for your continued work Fifi. Could anyone have ever imagined what this sim was capable of 15, or 20, year ago?!? :o

I am 2 patrols into a pretty successful career with 5.8. How do safely install 7.8 and run my patrol (if its possible)? If not, guess ill just play my career through untill dead or retired and start with the new one.

EDIT: Wait I just checked my folder and its NYGM 7.8. What is the latest version?

So as a follow on report, I've been pretty busy but managed to get Degen's 701 boat out of Kiel. The port of Kiel looks so much better in this version, and the old U.S. Army trucks now sport a more appropriate Einheitsdiesel 1941 appearance. Nice, very nice.

I've only made it to Kristiansand so it's a limited view, but this version is wonderful. I tweaked the GTX980 as you recommended with the profile inspector, and even modified it a tad with the settings recommended on the last page of the Moon Mod pdf.

On my 48" LG OLED 48CXPUB it's set to use AMD Freesync Premium. I'm running in a native 4kx2k, 3840x2160, 60hz. The game of course runs in 1920x1080, but using the native resolution allows me to set the color output to RGB, with "full" output dynamic range. The GTX980 is set to allow the display to control scaling and to over-ride game scaling settings. Colors are truly amazing, fps on the open sea, calm state, hits 148-150. Sitting at Kiel dock in all the port clamor and activity, the game opens at 38-40 fps. Heavy sea state exiting the harbor with a rush hour traffic jam, it was running at 80-83 fps.

But the best part of all, is the simplicity of installing this mod. Just untie the ribbon and open the box.

You've out done your self Fifi. Thank you for resurrecting this old treasure.

Having the best patrol of my sh3 career with NYGM, I was on my way home to Lorient in Sept 1940. Spotted a small freighter in bay of biscay and moved into a deck gun attack in the dead of night. The crew and I did not notice any deck guns and we started blasting away. Suddenly at around 400-500m the deck gun on the ship opened up! We tried evasive maneuvers to get in front of the ship but suffered two direct hits on our stern, SEVERLY damaging the ship!

Batteries not working, port engine destroyed, compressor destroyed, heavy flooding. Luckily, we managed to sink the ship before it got more shots off.

We almost lost the boat, flooding under control, repairs made to what we could. However, we could only make 4 knots. Here is where my question comes in, The boat could only make 4 knots which made sense considering the damage. But i could not dive and I could not for the life of me figure out why. Hotkeys didnt work, manual depth keeping didnt work, crash diving didnt work. Can someone explain why?

I was attacked 5x in 1940 in the Bay of Biscay which seemed excessive in 1940, but we luckily made it to Lorient without further incident. Hull was at 75%.

Diving planes damaged and/or destroyed, that’s why …
Don’t mess with enemy merchants decks guns, they can be truly deadly !
They don’t throw potatoes to you anymore :)
