PS: first picture is taken from a Flak position, and last one is the entrance / exit of the old harbor… the one we have in game (well, not in NYGM : )

Wow - blast doors?... or are those a "recent" addition? I did not know there were doors! Imagine one of those falling on your boat (if they are blast doors)! Thanks for the pics Fifi! :salute:

Well, they don’t look that recent… but I’m not sure they were existing in 44.
Maybe those doors were added just after the war… because French navy used the bunker for their submarines after 45.
Actually the bunker is still used for the rescue boats (the orange ones)
Also there is a museum inside (French liners ships like the Normandie)
But was very disappointed … nothing about the real users of bunker. Nothing about U-Boats.
Only an old French submarine of the 50 to visit…called the Espadon.

They did not have blast doors back during the War.
The angle of attack was not much of an issue in those days.
So any bomb that got lucky enough to even hit the area near the opening was mostly just a waste of a good bomb.

I did a little lap yesterday... I had a lot of clones in the port but the work is not finished... so this remark may not be suitable for the moment...
good for the "water spray" it is not dramatic in itself it does not prevent the operation of the rest ...
the screen you see was taken in the naval academy the boat has stopped..
the underwater ebb has been observed during the natural movement of the waves
when the boat is moving...
here's Fifi for the rest, that's going well for the moment...
Take your time Fifi there's no hurry don't forget you're on vacation
in the port it begins to come to life the buoys.. the boats.. the lighthouses.... These seem correct now
I thank you for your dedication here is for your improvements...

But don’t expect to get heavy harbor traffic … like others mods… i could do it, but don’t want it. I hate spending too much time leaving / entering harbors :03:
Here is just to give a little more life.
Furthermore i really don’t want to get crazy loading times, and I’m adapting the mod to my own computer performance before anything. At first it was just for my own use! :haha:

yes Fifi on this gif we can appreciate this emergency dive... we see here all the German engineering of the time in action..!! the structure of the hull of these superb boats the vents in plain action a remarkable work which allows a fast dive .. the only black point here are the doors which seem open. Maybe a surface attack then followed by the arrival of planes..
on this screen we can appreciate these 2 models types IX long range of action...
observe the anatomy of the hull on the left one a model "schnell tauschen" admire me this work ... this fantastic structure for the time the one on the right being a "dairy cow" a supply submarine as well as a minelayer ...
when I see the American boats it's scary... they look pale and are clearly inferior in all... it's a shame that all this technology has been stolen...
the French are so sour that you don't even have a building to visit on the bunkers or your disappointment... this screen comes from Portsmouth, New Hampshire during the 1946 war to study them so much theirs was miserable..

I think they are U1228 and U234. Both were refitted for trials and torpedoed off Cape Cod in 1946 and 1947.

This photograph shows four German submarines at the Portsmouth Navy Yard, which were surrendered off the coast of Portland.
They are probably the U-805, U-858, U-873 & U-1228.

St Nazaire will not be like the one with gates (not really historical accurate), but from my own (correct place but kind of fictionnal - no one existing accurate anyway)...

Also added German AA defence + searchlights not existing so far in Nygm for Germans French harbors :03:

Bit of a stretch to say the American boats were inferior in all. In some aspects, they were vastly superior.
The German boats were scarcely improved WW1 versions. Heck, the IX's were withdrawn from convoy duty early in the war because they dived to slow, cumbersome, etc. vs the VIIs.
And of course, two completely different types of campaigns between the Pacific and Atlantic.

High sea lighthouse imported from Ccom12 for my NYGM :D
Both of those lighthouses will figure on map too, north of Wilhelmshaven :up:
Added also the Laboe memorial at Kiel that was missing …with its whistle sounds when passing in front.

I remember doing it… once without damage, an other time taking small damage … so it might depend of something … but not sure of what. I usually avoid it to stay clean :D

Both those campaigns in NYGM left somethings to be desired. They seemed light. Always used GWX when playing either of those campaigns. So any improvement is always welcome.

How about making those ships into a separate add on mod, for those with larger machines, or they can pick and choose which ships to include for themselves.

Along with possibly breaking the ships down to theater of action, i.e. Atlantic, Mittelmeer, and Black Sea to be activated when those campaigns are accessed.

Just thinking outside the box here. :)

I would be more than willing to assist if needed.

Your Mod loads in about 5-minutes whereas Onealex' Mod takes more than 16-minutes, CCoM 12 takes roughly seven minutes and that is about as long as I am prepared to spend waiting for a typical SH-3 session. Once loaded all are stable, run well and give excellent frame rates but un-modded NYGM and GWX load in ~2.5 and ~3.5 minutes respectively.

Quarter-hour plus load times are awful and typically I need to commit to several hours of SH to make the wait for the Onealex Mod to load a reasonable investment. The only problem is that these latest iterations of SH-3 Mods are all so great, deciding which to play is tough.

Yes, this is part of the limits of a 32-bit program. Adding a lot of cool features can occupy the limited amount of memory the program is allowed to address.

Finished first patrol.
Stable.
Fun.
Nice look.
Still holds the spirit of NYGM.

So... all in all....very nice.

Some highlights.
1. Day periscope attack against a convoy. Speed about 9 knots. Heard hits as diving. Sank two ships. Unable to account for 2 torps and what they did. After the convoy cleared the area, went back to the debris field at night and found a dead in the water small merchant with a French flag.
Could have been neutral but it was not illuminated and was part of an enemy convoy (which meant it was breaking the rules on both issues.) Looks like it took one of my torps from the initial attack. Gunfire to get a fire going. Then sank it with one torpedo. Game scored it as neutral for about 3k tons. It wasn't illuminated and was part of an enemy convoy so... in the spirit of the game, I am OK with that.

Some days later found a convoy at night in BF17. Evening. Visibility not great. Determined speed as only 3 knots. Night surface attack on two transports that were next to each other and sister ships. Sunk both and carefully exited at high speed avoiding two escorts.

Some days later saw a neutral American freighter and practiced a submerged attack on it (obviously not firing).

After about 32 days, getting low on fuel and went home. Fair bit of bad weather on this patrol so that limited what I could do.

Not only the number of ships, but the data weight !
Compare the different sea folder global weight of each megamod, and it will give you the loading times differences …
Big sized tga can have heavy impact on loading time too.
Not to say the campaign files…
Some of the nice ships I took pictures above are over 10000 Ko just for the ship.dat… it’s way too much.
Average should turn around 4000 Ko max!

My goal is to not overpass the « fastidious » 5mn loading times in career :yep:
(On my pc anyway)

I myself am... to see all your work but take the necessary time, there's no hurry... I would have liked you to look at planes because they are not very pretty. Now it's only a suggestion... if it's possible Fifi but I know that with you nothing is impossible..

Of course I could easily get better models but again at performance coast.
First reason is this performance coast, second reason is playing 100% realism we can’t see those planes from close! :D
Not to say when first plane spotted, you should be very soon underwater !
Looking at them from deck, they are enough nice in my opinion.

That being said, maybe in future I will make them better as an add-on mod for those with NASA computers… but honestly, ships are more important to me :yep:

I think that the_frog's models have the best "level of detail / weight" ratio for SH3. Looking close to his ships, we can realize that he has been very careful to not create too complexe 3D meshes, and tried hard to keep things simple without being simplistic.

In contrast, WoWS' models and textures are way too much detailed for a game like SH3... They may be a good choice for a specific single mission, but not for a campaign.

That's why I'm trying to "convert" WoWS's models into simpler models, but actually I'm stuck on the texturing process... See here for example : https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=251309

The part, in Magenta, was after a thought & conversation on... looking into the idea, of putting SH3... (& quite possibly, 4, at the least... not sure if 5 would bene... not to say it couldn't... :hmmm:) on a diet, to lower the 3D count on ships... which seems to be the biggest area (as I understand it... I admit, that 3D rendering, is NOT My strong suite... by far. :yep:) of contention... where it pertains to load time.

The idea & concept of that... original thought idea, was... to have ships not be so, load intensive, so as to be able to better be able to include things that were.... not quite right, with things like land areas, not being in where they should be, ports... being more... correct in not just placement, but... be a bit more... active.


At least, that was the basis for it... to make the game better. I guess, like Icarus, I guess my idea, flew too close to the sun. *sigh* Ahh well.

Other good news: I finally succeeded in new ships optimization, weight of each ship.dat greatly decreased :up:
So I can take them back (except the Ncv Bogue one & an other tanker that are still very heavy even lightened)
Almost all destroyers are new ones… maybe more than 20 ships are new (and better looking) in NYGM.

Loading times are still very good here :03: (less than 5mn)

Still have some work before this great update …

Fifi's working on an update, & as I understand it, ships will be included in it, as will be seeing of getting a couple of ports/bases, in their correct position on the French coast.


From what I could gather, some ships... may or may not make the cut with this update, though... I seem to recall a suggestion of including those ships, deemed too... resource heavy, to be included in an... optional mod pack. :hmmm:

Due to my optimization, all the ships above will be included! Except the Bogue carrier available as add on mod.
Career loading times are still more than correct (around 3mn 30 for the longer) & NYGM sea folder is still the lighter of all super mods…

So brand new NYGM Enhanced is available in my signature spoiler.
Readme PDF inside is updated.
Some mods are deleted, other are new, even in SH3 Commander NYGM!

Loading times in career are around 3mn 40 here, depending starting year & sub type as well as add-on mods chosen.

Important: avoid more than X64 when leaving harbor, in a 50km radius...

Thanks for all of your work, no issues with the download or installation, everything appears to work just fine.

But.

Loading time is in excess of 10-minutes with no optional mods activated for starting a May '41 Type VII career so I have rolled back my NYGM-Fifi installation to your June version, which loads in less than four-minutes. I don't need the eye candy and don't want the modelled interiors. Having a reasonable loading time is more important to me than exquisite-looking models. And to be fair, they are impressive in your screenshots.

On my middle average pc, it takes maximum 3mn 40!! (Furthermore later in war when files heavier…)
I’m sorry for that inconvenience mate

New sea folder is 1,33Go… still the lighter sea folder of all super mods!
It should load faster than any other super mod…

It's an older rig, an I3 (I think) dual core 3 GB CPU with 8 GB of RAM running Win-7 SP3 through a NVIDIA GeForce GT-710. Not great perhaps, but way above SH3 required specs. Once it loads I get great frame rates and the game is stable so the computer is not really a concern.

By comparison, the last version of QneAlex's Mod takes some 17-minutes to load so by that yardstick, 10-minutes is like lightening. But four is so much better.

There's no problem from my perspective and I have no issues with using an earlier iteration of your Mod, since "you done real-good!"

Impeccable first lap in master... The work is remarkable, everything is going well... Impeccable loading time.. 3/4 min.. I had no luck leaving at night at 5:00 am I did not appreciate your pretty ships in the port.. but during the day it is the best of... they are magnificent... your work is a must... the weather is splendid.. the stars.. the buoys in the port... the Uboat interior ...manual of recce etc..

Let me begin by saying thanks so much again for giving a face lift to my old favorite. :yeah:

Load times are comparable to GWX, and CCoM, so not so bad in my eyes, though NYGM is no longer the sleek grey hound in loading times. But the trade off is worth it as I now are using a fraction of the mods I was using with NYGM and not worrying about the loading order of mods so everything works as intended. :yep:

I look forward to a updated Mittelmeer and Black Sea Campaign for NYGM. Always used GWX for those, so it is really welcomed for your attention. :salute:

Be aware the latest version with all ships and new Lorient etc DO NOT ALLOW saves game! You have to start over a new career… (on a clean fresh install)

NYGM's Black Sea and Mediterranean Campaigns left much to be desired. Gave them a go but just did not compare to what was offered by GWX.

Good choice in adapting GWX to NYGM. You would have been a long time in fleshing out NYGM to make it come up to standards.

Thank you for the hard work Fifi, this is great! :yeah:

But I can't figure out how to get the RAOBF to show with DGUI. I've tried in single missions and career and was careful to make sure realism settings were set to manual targeting - no luck.

Also is there a way to stop the external unit camera from moving with the boat? I love to watch the boat plough through a choppy ocean, but the movement is nauseating. The external free camera is stable.

But I can't figure out how to get the RAOBF to show with DGUI. I've tried in single missions and career and was careful to make sure realism settings were set to manual targeting - no luck.

Also is there a way to stop the external unit camera from moving with the boat? I love to watch the boat plough through a choppy ocean, but the movement is nauseating. The external free camera is stable.

I’m not sure there is a RAOBF wheel in DGUI … as I never use it, and there wasn’t any RAOBF in WW2 u-boats :03: (only in WW1)
But can be wrong with DGUI …

Not sure what you are asking with the external camera… to me it’s ok.
I don’t have time actually to check, but when my Med campaign will be done I will :03:

You should have these 2 knobs at the bottom of the periscope click on the one on the left I think.

New campaign files are done and working fine without CTDs :yeah:
Whole mod validated with SH3 validator and no one error.

Had to highly adapt GWX files to work with NYGM (ship by ship, plane by plane) cause NYGM roster is quite different … thousand lines in the 3 files of campaign folder.
Also NYGM doesn’t have Salamis base for player… we are starting 29 flotilla career at Brest and then direct to La Spezia.
Player will have to activate the Med files Only when in La Spezia until end of 44 at Toulon.

Added some stuff, deleted few others.
I also created Marseille harbor (the biggest French harbor on Med) because it was not existing :03:
Of course with its ships & small traffic.

Back to fine tune Black Sea campaign …

I’m not sure… I think as soon as you close enough the base (hence everything in harbor is spawning) the escort start his travelling.
The escort point I added is exactly on longitude / latitude of the further (from harbor) escort waypoint …
So logically, escort should come exactly on the escort point!
If escort point is quite far away from harbor, it could take some time for escort to come (logical) like Brest harbor for instance.

I never said that there were any problems, quite the opposite actually. The new upload just has features that I don't want, which greatly increase loading time on my machine, that's all. The earlier version largely lacks these features and loads up far faster.

Fifi's work speaks for itself with regards to the quality and stability.

I’m really sorry your machine can’t handle latest version :yep:

Even the Black Sea files only? (On top of stand alone)

That’s quite incredible … we have been playing for years with this MFM ship pack, and nobody ever noticed all the ships masts doesn’t have any water reflection ! :o
Reflection node is present, but reflection is set on 0 instead of 1 :doh:

3 others ships who doesn’t belong to this pack have same visual problem.

It will be fixed for next update :up:

This mast non reflection was hiding huge reflection issue with those MFM ships! :o

Nor the masts were reflecting, but whole ship reflection was wrong!! :doh:
Cabina was reflecting wrong place, and often where there is no cabina!
Each MFM ship reflection is completely screwed up!

Now Fifi is there :D :haha: and it will be all fixed :yeah:

No game limitations! Only human errors :D

Plenty reflection controller had reflection set to 0 … AND plenty guns doesn’t have any reflection node !!
Have a look into ALL your guns.dat, and you’ll see what I mean…

No need to say reflection values were not set correctly for NYGM standard …

Now ALL guns reflection is fixed for next update (as well as ALL ships reflection)
Long work but DONE :yeah:

To turn this issue around, creating hidden static crew with correct reflection gives the illusion of our deck crew reflection :03:

2 bad sides:

- the crew reflecting is not moving - not that important, cause with water motion we can’t see if moving or not. With little more waves, it’s hard to see them anyway …

- when dive is ordered, regular deck crew is disappearing before U Boat submerged, but … crew reflection (of hidden crew giving illusion) is still there few seconds until U Boat underwater.
We have to compromise always :)

I forgot that the crew can sometimes wear rain coats!… and my water reflection still shows regular uniforms :wah:
It’s becoming very complicated to me. For the moment I can’t make the reflection changing in regard of the weather …
I think best is I will keep this feature aside until I find a solution …

Now i'm trying to fix minefields (mine can't be seen above water) & revision of all minefields...

EDIT: haha, solved the bug, now we can see mines under and above water! ...depending the height settings of course.

When the minefield revision will be done, beware the mines!!
I think Stiebler set the mines a bit to deep and density a bit to low… I will revise this.

Minefield & antisub net revision is finished…
Have slightly increased density of mines in Atlantic (it was set on 1! :doh: now set on 13)
No wonder we almost never encountered one :haha:
Now they are visible on surface (when set on surface, mainly close to harbors cause no depth)
In Med & Black Sea, density is same as GWX (50 from memory!)
Some harbors exit/entrance are … well you’ll see! Follow closely the buoys! (Or the escort)

Tested a hit on U Boat… heavy flooding, hull to 27%… so only one chance for us :D

Subnets are new 3D models, more accurate to me.

I think next update will be released around September 25th…
Have some tests to finish, and lost part of my work… have to re do it… argg
Then some holidays for a week… that’ s why…

Currently adding some life over the Atlantic, along America (north & south)…
Some harbors were missing, and the ones existing had poor protection.
Interesting for the type IX players! :up:

Speaking of type IX, I will probably release also an add-on mod for those playing from Bordeaux to Indian Ocean … but lot of work still :03:

Finally finished it before my holidays :up:

Readme PDF inside updated.
New ships, new plane, water reflection revised for all ships & guns, Atlantic campaign enhanced (new harbors & traffic), Med campaign fine tuned, fires smoke bug fixed, secondary explosions added etc etc...

NEW CAREER MANDATORY!!

Loading times are still very acceptable here (less than 4 minutes)
