View Full Version : Silent Hunter 4 patch v1.3: Where? When? What?

A 1.3 patch is still badly needed, there are issues in SHIV that still need fixing. Let's get on the ball Ubi and get to work. :yep:

I'll echo Neal's and others' comments...UBI Romania not merely "must", but "should" do the right thing and complete their product to make it the sim it should be. We've all put a lot of years and dollars/euros into making this a long running title for them. They need to consider that................. HpM2cDennis

Ubisoft - I am disgusted it has come to this!
This debarcle has changed by faith in you as a software developer - where once you were right up there in the stakes as evidenced by the rapid support that was provided to you products. However because of this sham, it seems I've bought my last Ghost Recon, IL2, & certainly last Silent Hunter title.
EA used to be the worst developer of all time (In my view), but congratulations Ubi has hit number 1. Even Micro$oft 'attempt' to fix their products, yet there is an apparent debate over whether the smaller community of your loyal SH supporter deserve so much as a 1.3 patch ATTEMPT!
Goodby UbiSoft and farewell. :/\\chop

Just putting in my vote for UBI to give the order for 1.3 to surface and make a run. :|\\
Units of measurement: Imperial units for ship dimensions, torpedo depth gauge, range figure in the TDC and Position Keeper, all UOM issues need to be resolved.
Campaign retirement – feature or bug? Bug. Suggestion that it should be optional.
Repetitive patrols still get assigned.
Chronometer still doesn’t work as described in the manual. “The Chronometer bug”, this needs a quick and dirty fix, just a simple speed response in the text box when the Speed button is selected in the TDC, as occurs when the player clicks the Depth Beneath Keel button. But, importantly, the player should still have the choice of manually entering his own speed estimate in the TDC.
Radar needs finishing touches. It doesn't work when heading South 90deg to 270deg. Is SD radar fixed? Does is not detect ships but will detect aircraft? Also, when SD radar fitted there is no A scope display.
Heres my vote, UBI please, at least fix the ABOVE!!!

This program is one good patch away from being one of the best, if not the best naval sim of all time imo.
Please get it fixed UBI

I have been hooked on subsims since I first played a demo of SH1, gee like so long ago,I searched high and low to get a copy of SH1 Commanders edition and have supported all previous releases (SH2,SH3 and now SH4 Exclusive Limited edition #1978)
Ubisoft used miss leading advertising to persuade me to part with my hard earned dollars believing this was going to be a massive improvement on the past series!!!
Yes the graphics are nice but to leave Silent Hunter 4 wolves of the Pacific in it's present state is criminal!! Ubisoft should be prepared to give a full REFUND to those customers who are far from happy with there purchase!
In Australia the customer has a right to request a refund for goods purchased which are faulty! SH4 needs to be patched to at least 1.3 if not I will be asking for my money back, SH4 Limited Edition cost me $180.00 Australian dollars including postage, thats the most I have ever paid for a game and it will be my last from Ubisoft.

I think a patch that fixes the broken features is the bare minimum.

I have every version of this game that has ever been made on my shelf and I am an avid buyer and user of MANY titles from UBSOFT and they have it on record every time I log into their site from Silent Hunter to Splinter Cell to Ghost Recon and many more.
PLEASE FINISH this GREAT GAME!

I`d like to have patch 1.3 .
Just too bad I have to vote and post for something that was promised the second i wasted 80 bucks...
But yeah, I have every SH game out there. And the only thing I ask now, is that you give me Silent Hunter 4..

You got my vote. If they won't patch at least release a SDK and let the Subsim community fix it.

I am a great fan of SHIII -- I've never played a better Subsim -- and have eagerly awaited the release of SHIV.
So what's stopping me from buying? Reports here that the issue is buggy. Now, I know first issues are -- and that patches come along to fix things up. But the list of issues outstanding is still too long. After a year of enjoying SHIII, I know I would NOT enjoy SHIV with these bugs.
So, come on Ubisoft! You have a loyal fan here reaching for his wallet... make it easy for me to give you my money (and sing your praises!).

I totally agree with Neal and the responders here that SH4 needs at least one more patch. Its great to see people here not putting up with or accepting the nonesense that the game as it now is, doesn't need more patching. What BS. Ubisoft you need to get your act together if you expect me to buy another gamers program from you without support the currert came here--SH4, as well as future games.

Yo! We need this patch!
The game is fun but man, it can be better!
Don't let us down Ubisoft!

Go Neal, thank you.
Ubi, how about a REAL patch this time? tell us what is going on, we'll wait if you promise to fix the real issues people are having.

Here is a quote from my SH4 review, which remarks on how I feel about the sim in it's 1.1 form. 1.2 makes the sim playable but I believe 1.3 is a requirement!
"I’m going to be blunt. Development studios have got to stop releasing unfinished products just so they can meet their release date. Ubisoft have released an unfinished product here and just days after release, they had a patch ready to go that still didn’t sort the problems. Ubisoft were obviously not prepared to wait for another month so the development team could get this patch into the release version and Ubisoft have released what in my opinion is a beta product not in any way ready for release. Before playing Silent Hunter 4 you must install the 1.1 patch or it is not worth buying (even with the 1.1 patch it is not a more immersive and comprehensive simulator than Silent Hunter 3 was), this review is of the 1.1 version."

Ubi, I must echo ALL the above posts. After buying the game on faith, plus over $200 in computer upgrades just to be able to do this thing properly, if you want me to EVER buy a Ubi product again, a 1.3 PLUS patch is imperative. Repeat: Imperative.

Make the patch for the loyal subsim lovers. atm it's not realistic anymore.

I played Silent Hunter 1 years ago and also was active in Silent Hunter 3, but then wandered away to other games for a few years.. When I relaised about 2 months ago SH4 was released i rushed out to get it ... Apart from the eye candy I was so dissapointed. Its so broke and unfinished .........
I have a Xbox360 and I have a lot of UBI games on that platform (Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas, Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Splinter Cell) so I know UBI can do it right .. but not in SH series it seems
S.O.S Ubisoft. We're counting on you.

I agree 1.3 please.
I have been Subsimming since Red Storm Rising and Aces of the Deep but I have held off my purchase of SH4 because there are some fundamental problems that remain to be fixed, by all accounts.
I would love to play this game.
Please - fix the main bugs that have been requested and let me buy this game!

By the looks of things it still hasn't been fixed yet either.

Remember back when we had 1.2 patch changelog posted before its release? I was crying to get more fixes in, especially chronometer fix. I posted back then to slow it down and get as many fixes as possible because you never know how many patches we will get. I remember back then many people posting that they were confident more patches would come out and to relax. I guess that changed now. You have learned a lesson about UBI.
SH3 got 3 patches and I remember how UBI and SH4 developers promised game to have better support this time around. Hmmm....

I payed good money for the collectors edition. All the bells and whissles, yet the game itself was released before it was finished. I can't but think back to 688(i) HK about how so many people have to take action to get a company do what it was supposed to do. Present a finished product.
Patch Silent Hunter IV. Thank you.

I haven't brought SH4 yet, mainly because of the reports of problems on these forums.
And unless these problems are rectified then there is 0% chance that I will buy it.
UBI, you've invested this much money/effort into the game, surely your developers are telling you they can get a much better product with just a little bit more?
You've invested 99% of the money, and so far got 75% of the result. Why wouldn't you invest the final 1% and get the remaining 25% done, and finish with a product that this community can keep alive for many years to come.
Leaving the game in a semi-complete state is a shocking waste of the money you've already invested.

Yes I agree with everyone also a new patch is needed for SH4. It is important for UBI to stand behind their products.
Aside from the issue of finishing a game that was sold incomplete, I think the number of people who buy SH5 might be affected by whether or not this game is corrected. As it stands I stopped playing SH4 because of the bugs. I'll go back to it if it is fixed, but I won't buy SH5 if it isn't.

I bought SH III and still play it on occasion every few months, I got bored with it in the end but adding mods made it a new game but it never ran well for me.
But as with SH IV I never bought it as I knew it would be rubbish out of the box, thing is after reading all the posts I’m not going to either.
Stop releasing games with the opinion well its broke but we can patch it later…..Never had this option when I was younger, the games worked out of the box………
Disgusted and shocked that these developers can’t get this basic fundamental right, it seems to be the lazy half arsed approach theses days my other few games are the same BF2 was patched from day one and FM07 was patched all the way.
I’m only playing BF as I have the PR mod which opens up a epic game….I’ll come back it six months and see whats whats when I get my new quad machine for winter

Agreed - software houses seem to release BETA products nowadays with the view that they can patch them up to GOLD once the money comes in. This isn't the right approach at all - GOLD products should be the only ones released after proper BETA testing. Consumers shouldn't have to pay £20-40 for the dubious honour of BETA testing unfinished products. UBI aren't alone in this (DICE/EA and Activision anyone?) but I too can remember playing games that needed one patch several months later to fix obscure niggling bugs, not immediate patching to fix show stoppers.
If you're gonna do it, do it properly!

Count me in. This game is too good to be left almost finished.
Here comes a french speaking customer, rather disappointed with SH4: difficult to find the same atmosphere as in FS III, and an unfinished product. The two first patches were necessary, and there are still many bugs left. The only answer is a serious third update, Thank you for your help !
This game is potentially too good to be left in its current patch state. Come on Ubi , don't let your sub skippers down - lets see 1.3

Amen!
i shall play SHIII and not purchase SHIV until SHIV is in a completed state
The only reason I haven't played SH4 much at all is due to bugs and clearly lacking features - please fix the bugs or I will not buy a single ubisoft game anymore (which are many). I paid for a game that works and which I can enjoy. Nothing talks so much of a publisher than what their end product is like.

Ubisoft. A game that does not deliver to promises and expectations is a turn-off, a frustration and UNFINISHED.
As such it is likely to go back on the shelf and your name will be MUD.
Please listen to the subsim community and deliver a final patch to correct the problems.
All games of any depth and substance have to be patched; no-one can foresee the snags and glitches - and patching until you get it right should be part of the package of delivery.
Please honour your committment to the loyal band who buy your games, and the hard work your team have put into them, and make SH4 a GREAT game that will have us singing your praises for years to come.
As Neil says, there are issues to be resolved to make SH4 run the way we expect it to. Please sort it out for us Ubisoft.

I've actually stopped playing SH4 because of these issues.
I also agree that a patch is sorely needed. I've decided to refrain from playing the game until a patch comes out. It's just too frustrating... I really hope that the people who gave us such a masterpiece as SHIII will not abandon us, also considering the great potentialities of SH4. What a waste would be to leave the game as it is, after so much work!

Ubi you must listen to this thread. This community is second to none anywhere for it's knowlegde and sincerity. Any company needs a solid base from which to operate. Fail your customers at your peril - this community is your most solid customer base. If we are asking it is necessary.
Please don't fail us but also don't initiate the decline of simulation games and Ubisoft which has given so much.

I almost never post on forums, but this is a game I really want to be playing for years to come. Those games you play for a long period keep an interest in the maker of that game, a good marketing tool.
Ubisoft please don't do to SH4 what you did with Pacific Fighters.
The mod community do an incredible job, SH3 for instance which I am still playing, and don't expect to be giving up any time soon. But they can only do so much.
We desperately need a patch.

Hey all, just thought I'd weigh in.
I loved the previous silent hunter titles (came across them recently rather than playing when they originally came out) and have been saving up a little money to get a few more computer games. Silent Hunter IV was on my list to get, but I'd heard that it's still pretty buggy. If I'd known how bad Medieval II, for example, was going to be up until (and to a degree, through) the notorious 1.2 patch, I'd have waited to get it as well. Nothing as frustrating as trying to play a great game but getting held up by the leftover 'quirks.'
Anyway, the game engine is amazing and I can't wait for the patch to come out so that I can go purchase a copy of the game. So you've got one eager customer who's willing to help you recoup the cost of implementing the patch, by at least whatever share of the purchase price you guys get for one copy. Maybe two if I can convince my friend to come aboard as well.

I concur wholeheartedly with Neal's comments and suggestions. These are relatively small but important problems that need to be addressed. One more patch should bring the game up to where it should have been when released. The modders can then work on really great "Nice to have" mods to tweak the game.
By the way, been using Imperial measures but have been setting the fish to run shallow rather than under the keel. Seems to help also have the 25% increased torpedo mod and the explosions are great. For mods like that I try them out on the Naval academy. Needed 4 or five torpedos to sink the cruiser but have done it with three. Yes, UBI Soft please do the next patch and fix the game. Its pretty good now but needs those final few fixes to really set it right......."Haze gray, and Underway":D :arrgh!:

This is simple, the game is not completed. I payed for this game and it didn't deliver. You may get away with this on this game if you don't release a third patch, but I won't be buying UBIsoft games in the future. Scamming your customers is not a good way to keep them.

support Neal's statement.
I bought both SH2 and DC directly when they were released. To release those games really showed Ubisoft's contempt for the fans, they were 33% finished at most. So I waited a little longer when SH3 came out to make sure I didn't make a misstake again. While SH3 was good, it could have been much better. Now, Ubisoft needs to show that they are a respectable game publisher BY RELEASING A THIRD PATCH to fix the issues in SH4.

I agree! This game is 80% there. But certain fundamentals need fixed before the modders can take it and make it a truly great game - a la GWX.
Ubisoft - you have a remarkable resource here - a bunch of borderline nutters who will devote hundreds of man-hours to modding, providing huge replay potential and spreading the word for future SH incarnations.

Ubisoft, your DEV team has created the most visually stunning sub sim ever, but patch 1.3 is necessary to allow them to fix some critical bugs that are still present in the game.
That´s my opinion too. SH4 is just plain beautiful. Making it completely playable incl. Chronometer fix, AI fix and everything that is mentioned here would be a show of dedication and professionalism and nonetheless respect to the customers.
Hello Fellow Skippers I feel another patch is VERY well needed I still have crashes for example while my sub is underwater I put up my observation periscope or attack periscope and it kicks me out into windows! that is becoming very annoying however Ubisoft has managed to get rid of that "invisible monolith" thank goodness for that. but I feel strongly that another patch is needed anyone else have underwater game crashes as well? I'd hate to be the only one
Thanks all and good hunting!

To the Devs-
It is because of the condition of the game that I have yet to purchase your product.
I bought SH1 through 3. I regretted 3, but you pulled the fat out of the fire at the last possible minute.
Do this, and I will gurantee you at least one more copy sold.
To Ubisoft- I know dozens, if not hundereds who feel the same way I do. If you believe the SH franchise to be a "poor seller", then you need only look into the mirror for the culprit. To rush this fine team of devs to a premature release for a quick buck will never recoup all the costs and risks you took.
Allow the team to develop this last patch, and reap the rewards of increased sales, once you use this outlet (subsim.com) as a massive staging point for an announcement for the third patch.
Have a good day-

First post for me, I have bought all the other Silent Hunter titles, and just about every other WWII subsim out there since about 1990 I've watched these games graphically and technically improve I think that the Silent Hunter series is the best I've seen.
I bought the special edition of of Silent Hunter 4. I've not installed it yet as my PC is not up to running it, my new PC arrives next week and I hesitate to install it on the new machine if it's as buggy as the community says it is (and I trust the community so I believe it is).
From the screen shots i've seen the game looks beautiful. If you could make the game play match the graphics I'm sure you would have a world class game here.
UBI please release patch 1.3

We payed a lot of money, you earned a lot of money. Currently we are doing everything possible: We search the bugs, we describe the bugs, we test on different environements, we try to fix some bugs with mods.
What are you doing? Nothing else than earning money. if you don't want to keep the Silent Hunter series in your program, the PLEASE fix the critical bugs and PLEASE release a SDK, so we can keep this great game alive.

heres my vote, put out the damn patch and finish your product ubi!!!
Hi!
I can't offer any testimony on whether SH IV is good or bad: I have held off purchasing the game after reading many independent reviews and player comments regarding the number and severity of bugs in the game.
I would like the game to be at least as mature (with regard to bugs that require developer intervention) as SH III was after its final patch before I purchase it, but it appears from player comments and feedback on V1.2 that SH IV is not quite there yet.
I think the game could be quite a worthy successor and improvement upon SH III and a game I would consider really worth buying, so I would like to encourage Ubisoft and the development team to make the necessary repairs and make available any information that would allow the modding community to take it from there, even if it takes another patch... or two.
Pablo
My sentiment exactly. Once the bugs are fixed, I'll glady pay up for SH IV.
I learned from pain of experience with SHIII about being a Ubisoft early adopter with initial 1.0 releases!
Since the intention was to develope a sim true to real live, why distract from this goal with so many thing that does not work as they should?:hmm:

I don't own Silent Hunter IV, yet, as I've been waiting for it to be brought up to speed.
I own the Silent Hunter series and probably every other sub sim ever released!
Just like a lot of other people here, I bought Silent Hunter III the day it was released!!
I bought it not just because of my attraction to U-Boat sims, but also to show support the genre and the game series.
Silent Hunter III still needs another patch to make her complete but Ubi has never bothered to finish it, prefering to move on to something new, so as to get more of our hard earned money.
Thus, leaving all us loyal customers high and dry!
I've been wanting to get Silent Hunter IV since before it's release, but I've held off on it, until it gets fixed.
If it doesn't get fixed, l will have no problem waiting and buying it from the cheap bin, or just not buy it at all!
After the problems with so many incomplete games and sims last few years, I've come to the conclusion that...
I'm not buying incomplete/broken sims or games anymore!!
If Ubi wants my money, they're gonna hafta fix Silent Hunter IV.

The project managers must either be the Marx Brothers or the Three stooges! First they make a game that requires a modern gaming machine that probably only 0.01% of the computers can play, thereby cutting out a large percentage of the market; and then they issue an incomplete game and apparently refuse to fix it.

I was disabled in 2003 and most of the time house bound . I turned to the computer for companonship and found the Subsim community and SH3. Since then my life has not been boring and I get lots of joy playing SH3-GWX and reading the forums and getting to know my shipmates. Have recently just joined replying in the forums. When you are disabled and on a set income money is hard to come by. So when SH4 was going to be released me and my wife began saving change and cans to sell to save the money for the game. The day of the release I had it in my hands. What Joy. Now I feel betrayed and cheated because the product was not complete as advirtised. Ubisoft you owe me for any patch that is needed. Ubisoft, this is not a feel sorry for me post, this is to show you just how loyal a fan I am of your sub games. This post is simply to get you to get off your ass and patch this game, as I a disabled person got off his ass and bought your game. Hoist the sails Neal, I'm with you on this.

I'm going to throw in my two cents: I'm irritated with Ubisoft. Yes, SH4 is a good product. Is it great? No. Is it good enough? That's debatable. I tend towards the hardcore side of sub simming, with enough salt thrown in to make up for little irritants (c'mon, I'm sitting in front of a monitor... I have to let some things slide). Major irritants... well, they kick me out of the zone I was in, and leave me cursing the game. Ubi becomes guilty by association in my mind, at that point.
Now I realize a good portion of today's PC game producers leave their products in an unfinished state, either by not including promised features, leaving bugs, or simply sweeping problems under the rug (trying to conceal them).
If Ubi allows the dev's to continue patching SH4, then Ubi stands above the rest of the market. I know they stand behind their product. I will have no problems purchasing a new sim, knowing that if their product has an issue, they will repair it. If they do not, then they have lost my faith, and any future purchases.
So far, I've been rather faithful to Ubi... I've purchased SH3, SH4, all of the Il-2 Sturmovik series (excepting 1946), Ghost Recon, etc. I may be a sub fanatic, but I do wander outside that niche. Losing faith in Ubi means losing those other purchases, too... more than just the next sub sim Ubi puts out (if they put one out).
I'd love to add one other thing: The PC game market is such right now that I'm becoming very irritated. A great deal of the games are the "same old" regurgitated content and playstyle, just revamped and shiny. The games that do dare to go outside the trend (thanks, Ubi, for the simulations!), are often buggy and/or incomplete.
I don't purchase the first, and I will not purchase the second if I lose faith in the producer to give me a solid experience.
Enough irritation, and I'm very tempted to just drop commercial PC gaming completely. I've been keeping an eye on the "Danger From The Deep" project, knowing it's open source. There were a few instances where SH3 irritated me, leaving me at DFTD's website, wondering if I ought to get involved in their project. Right now, I do not have enough experience to get seriously involved... however, I will if I become irritated enough.
My point? SH3 had a very solid modder's community, taking a product from Ubi and extending it, bringing it ever so closer to the ideal. There are currently problems in SH4 (and SH3, for that matter) that the modders simply cannot fix, due to the problems being hard coded. With commercial products, that's the end of the story... they simply cannot fix them. With an open source product like DFTD, they can.
So if Ubi lets me down on SH4, I will most likely turn my attentions from any other future sub sim from Ubisoft, and place those attentions and energy on a project like DFTD. And I will do my best to be vocal about it, encouraging other modders to "come with me." If a company will not provide me with the experience I desire, I will help to build it myself.
Obviously, that'd require a relatively massive effort, much more than is required to purchase and play a sub sim from Ubi (or any other producer I have faith in). I'd be much happier having Ubi follow through on their support of SH4, allowing me to continue my faith in them, enjoy SH4, and continue to purchase their products in the future.
If not, that's fine... I'll do it myself :yep:.

What can I say but to agree with all of you guys. SH3 was a great thrill which was boosted even more by GWX - btw, great job guys. I spent days and nights "at sea", so much that it became a joke between my friends.
When SH4 was announced I drooled over released screenshots and couldn't wait for the release date. As soon as SH4 was available in shops I bought it and in short time I was dissapointed with the number of bugs in the game. It offers great visual effects but "the core" is missing (like in some girls ;))...
What we need is patching as long as all major bugs are removed, AI gets better and all the other stuff already mentioned here gets fixed. Otherwise, I will certainly think at least twice before I ever buy something from Ubi again.
Last but not least - what's with this "you need to beg for a patch" attitude? Ubi, you make a living from customers or vice versa?
Regards to all from Croatia,
I.P.

I was not going to purchase SH4 untill all the major bugs had been ironed out as SH3 became a superb game after all the fixes were released, but I like many people wanted to see what Ubisoft could do with the extra processing and graphics power available to more modern computers and yes I did also upgrade my graphics card after seeing the original specs.
I was severely disappointed by SH4, it was obviously a game that was released too quickly after too little testing. Yes. the graphics are fantastic and so much more has been added to the game - mission wise apart from the SH3 "go to an area and patrol for 24 hours" that can prove very challenging. Graphics and gameplay aside, the basics didn't work.
SH4 needs patch 1.3 and probably patch 1.4 as well (any patch created will normally highlight other bugs).
As it stands under 1.2 we can now consistently hit what we are aiming at (?) but too much seems still to be lacking.
The chronometer is the most important bug, it was also one of the most important instruments in the submarines, if this doesn't work, the game doesn't work.
My lookouts cannot seem to spot aircraft at all and have to rely on radar to pick them up (at 2-4,000 yards) leaving not enough time to dive to escape the highly accurate depth charges.
Early war (1940) Japanese convoy escorts have perfected the 1943-44 allied tactic of 3 destroyers attacking and 1 listening without needing any sort of learning curve as was present in SH3 and all those destroyers which aren't crewed by brain dead zombies seem to have perfect sonar capabilites, reacting to evasive measures even as they are making a depth charge run.
The maunual is lacking all those niceties that were present in the SH3 manual, what are the differences between the various American submarines, what is my maximum diving depth and how far can my torpedoes reach at what speeds?
I support the call for additional patches as needed as what is presently a mediocre game has the potential to be the best sub sim on the market.
Hats off to Ubisoft for what they have accomplished so far but please continue to support the game to a playable standard.

UBI, please continue to patch this sim. The potential here is incredible. Don't let us down.
I would like to echo Neal's comments. I am still having ctds during campaigns. This is a great game but still needs bugs fixed. One of the annoying things is lifeguard duty. I can come up on a downed pilot showing on radar and cannot see him visually. I spent two hours trying to pick one up and finally cancelled the campaign. I have been rammed by destroyers several times in a campaign and never have been sunk.

Finish what you started UBI, the Silent Hunter Series has had a great reputation. It should be completed properly.

Do it... please
:ping: Just something small, however; for a new (3 years) subsim guy it is realy anoying.... a: can not move around top of Conning tower on all subs this is a pain when trying to desigante targets manualy ie: Deck / Flak gunners and b: Signal lights from several ships are visable for long distances even when fog / enviro effects are on when in heavy weather or the typical London fog. This also comes into effect as a sprite box (?) when seen from con tower through binoculars looking at a mainstay or even radar mount texture and shines right through it clearly... just a thought. c: Anyone else getting green screens rarely when switching through stations? I have found that Alt Tab corrects this so may have something to do with direct dll?

Quote from Neal.....It's coming up on two months since Silent Hunter 4 was released...Two patches have brought the game up to where it is stable and most of the basic features are functional, but there are still several key aspects that need attention...but has yet to reach the point where we consider it complete. The future of the Silent Hunter franchise depends on maintaining a reputation for quality.
imho........It's time for game producers to step up to the plate and stop releasing half-finished games to loyal customers! (who do they think they are...Microsoft!?) :damn: Anything less is not acceptable
and in most other arenas such behavior would be considered fraud and/or criminal.
If Ubisoft does not release a 1.3 patch to SH4, I propose that the Subsim community take up a collection to place a full-page ad in leading game magazines decrying their failure to do so, and the incomplete and unacceptable state of the game. I will be the first to contribute, and it will be more than $50.
A few gripes on the Web are not enough. Talk of lawsuits is fanciful -- you'd never win. But I presume that Ubi does care about immolating its brand reputation with both devs and consumers at large. Abandoning a product has consequences, and unless we drive those consequences home, we will just be suckers.
I have been keeping the faith so far. I am not one of those people who says SH4 is crap, because it is 90% good but with serious flaws that any company should be deeply concerned about and make an effort to fix. I continue to have faith that Ubisoft will not commit a serious mistake and will fulfill its good faith bargain with its customers.
I'm not wedded to the particular idea I propose; I think we should brainstorm about what is the most effective (and cost-effective) form of consumer protest that would have a serious impact on Ubisoft's bottom line. Unless we do so, we will be treated like chumps ... because we will be chumps.
Having stated stick, now let me add the carrot: If Ubi does complete this game, not to perfection but at least to a reasonable degree of correct functionality, it will earn my gratitude and admiration as a customer. The Ubisoft label and the "Silent Hunter" brand will continue to be a plus in my book.

I have spent a long time playing and enjoying SH3, in solo mode and online with others. The combination of patches from the Dev team and the modders input have made it a superb game. SH4 was eagerly awaited, and something of a let-down. Yes, there is a hell of a lot of potential in it, but the basics need to be finished off first. The same combination of dev fixes and modders input could make this a fantastic game. Please, folks, keep up the good work.:D
To Ubisoft; please don´t leave this game unfinished. I´ve been really looking forward to buy it but after reading the issues still standing I´m holding back.
Cheers, Javier Socorro 'flecha'

Hello Neil,
I also feel that Ubisoft should not be allowed to get away with not fulfilling there duty in delivering a quality SubSim. Please add my vote and let's put the pressure on them!

I too have been holding off on purchasing this sim until it is fixed. SHIII received the attention it needed and was a great sim. In fact, it turned a non-sim action junkie into a hardcore sim fan. This game looks better, and has potential to be better, but it needs fixed. Please, don't give up on your next masterpiece. I will be monitoring to see what happens next and hoping for the support that this sim deserves.
I can tell you that I am highly concerned about Ubisoft as the parent company at this point, they are getting the personality of the bigger companies like EA, who pay very little attention to their customers and rarely patch their games appropriately. This is the 4th release by this company in recent months that has been rushed to the shelves with so many bugs that it hindered what would have otherwise been a masterpieces.
Neal is right. Another patch is needed for Silent Hunt IV. I feel ripped off! This game could be a lot of fun in stead of frustration

hey Ubi..come on, make this patch, or i'm gonna buy no more ur titles..(do u know about bit torrent don't ya?)
u truly demonstrate why ppl download pirated copies: "today is really useless buy a game, cause houses don't make support!"..do ur job guys..
I would only add that Ubi has great support among the modder community here. If Ubi does the basic work in making the code functional -- something that modders CANNOT do -- the modders will do incredible things to bring the game to a state of true excellence. But the game engine has to work properly for them to do so. Ubi is getting free labor and creativity here -- it just has to do its part.

I am so far very disappointed in this game. I think the vast majority of us bought the game based on name and reputation alone. To have to received the product we were expecting is very disrespectful. I hope to see some sort improvement very soon!

It's coming up on two months since Silent Hunter 4 was released. Two patches have brought the game up to where it is stable and most of the basic features are functional, but there are still several key aspects that need attention and it's too quiet in the Ubisoft camp. I have not heard anything about the status of a third patch, which the game needs to be considered complete. Before the dev team gets too far from the construction site, Subsim is going to mount a campaign for patch v1.3. Silent Hunter 4 is an enjoyable game but has yet to reach the point where we consider it complete. The future of the Silent Hunter franchise depends on maintaining a reputation for quality.
We call on Ubisoft to complete Silent Hunter 4. We don't expect every wish to be fulfilled, but there are several key gameplay issues that loyal players and Ubisoft customers, who bought an incomplete game, deserve to have addressed. These include:
All AI needs tweaking, too often merchant ships all come to a stop and muddle around when under attack. Destroyers guarding merchants and especially in task forces occasionally seem somewhat uninterested in firing back. The Subchaser is unable to fire its main gun at all. If you mod the Subchaser to have a second gun in a raised position where the AA gun is it will fire this gun. The Akizuki DD has a similar issue, of the four guns it has only the two guns on the raised platforms actually fire. When the boat is rammed by a destroyer (for example) the destroyer generally comes of worse and often explodes.
We need your help to demonstrate the need for patch 1.3. Join the campaign here and make yourself heard. Post here. Don't hesitate or put it off. This thread will need hundreds of names to merit any attention.

Ubi (and most other game software companies) has been known for releasing buggy software and then fixing it after release. EA is the same way except half the time they never even get the fix correct. What is disturbing is that UBI appears to be following the same mantra as EA..."we will put crap on the shelves and if enough of you buy it we'll make it worth your while...if not, tough luck".
Look at the Battlefield series for EA...each successive release has been buggier than that before it and the sales have reflected this.
As the game industry constantly changes, self publishing and alternative methods of distribution are constantly popping up. In the very near future a publisher will have to bring something to the table more than just money. Ubi, what will you be bringing???
I totally agree 100% with Neal's accessment. I am particularily irked by the retirement bug. I have had some kick a@# patrols and instead of getting upgrades to better boats or the desired decoration I get retired for lack of aggression. Now to make the war work...I have to remember my tonnage and the date patrol ended so that when I do get "retired" I start a new campaign.

One; maybe more patches are required.
When I use the keyboard for "Periscope depth" and "crash dive" my engine telegrapth goes to "stop" and I remain on the surface.
After about a half an hour of playing, crew members begin to continously announce numbers. It continues throughout the rest of the game.
I have also had destroyers ram me. I received no damage and they sank.
I don't know if this is a bug or not; but I can't recover survivors in a lifeguard mission. I have come next to them; I have run over them going forward and backing down, but still no joy. Any advice?

I'm not a very active member of this community, but one thing for sure I'm a very active SH player and a long term Ubisoft customer.
Ubisoft needs to regain our trust. Nothing more is needed to say.

As a "lurker" who has bought just about every naval type sim since GATO, from subs to every Harpoon release to SH3 to Dangerous Waters to War in the Pacific (okay, that's not really a naval sim), please don't put us in a position where we write off an entire publisher, UBI!
100% behind everyone on this.
I have given up on SH IV. What I hoped was going to be the ultimate, state of the art sub sim, has been nothing but a source of frustration and disappointment.
In spite of a great group of gamers and their supprt and faith in SH IV it appears UBI has left the SH IV sim diving towards crush depth. Such a shame for what could have been the best sub sim to date.
I will no longer buy Ubi products and will block their email advertisements until they produce the much needed fixes, patches and improvements. By the way a decent manual would be nice.
And seeing as SH IV deals with Pacific theater, the WW II timeline in the manual might reflect events other than those occuring in Europe. That's nit picking I suppose but it indicates the attitude of Ubi towards this sim.
Fremac
I agree completely. I especially dislike forced retirement, and the weather needs to be less Atlantic, more Pacific.
I have stopped playing the game simply because it needs patch 1.3.
come on UBI give us what we payed for. The BBB don't want to here
