Default US jets 'bombed' Great Barrier Reef

I wouldn't be too bothered if I were the US...Australia is in a similar financial mess to the UK so probably can't afford to go to war

Quote:
US fighter jets dropped inert bombs on the Great Barrier Reef off Australia's coast during a training exercise that went wrong, it has emerged.
The two planes jettisoned four bombs in more than 50m (165 ft) of water, away from coral, to minimise damage to the World Heritage Site, the US navy said.
The jets had intended to drop at a bombing range on a nearby island, but Tuesday's mission was aborted.
The AV-8B Harriers were low on fuel and could not land loaded, the navy added.

The list of countries that have been bombed by the Americans grows ever longer

No real foul, the bombs were not deliberately targeted at the reef or detonated, impact damage would be minimal.

Just watch out for all those green lawyers preparing a case on behalf of Nemo

We're not going to tolerate Australia having that reef anymore. It was a threat to the US and suspected of having ties to Al-Qaeda.

Are the fish petitioning to government?

In breaking news, the fish and coral have filed charges to The world court, charging America with Genocide, on the scale of Pol pot, the Nazis, and the Armenian Massacre.

Be happy the bombs were inert, and you did let us practice there....

Not only will we bomb your reefs!

But we will refuel at your bases, to do it again!

(teasing, I am sorry it happened, but I do not see the pilots or the American people so destructive as to do it for laughs.)

I was irked by the article I read, and the outrage like we did it on purpose, or to amuse ourselves.

I didn't interpret the article that way in fact I doubt the pilots had much choice.

I think everybody is missing the real point.....

They weren't even bombs. The quote from the OP says they were inert.

Metal cases, no more.

I think the Aussies could retaliate quid pro quo by tossing beer cans (or kegs), empty, at the US and we'll call it even.

Hell, chuck them into the grand Canyon, that'd be fair.

Best hope they're not Foster's cans then, they could cause some serious pollution problems
