Default On going AA gunner issue

Hi all, Been playing a LONG time SHIII and have decided to finnally ask due to a long onging nagging issue. I have 1.4 installed ,all the upgrades. no GWX, reg vanilla.

when I start with a early war type II or VI boat
I order the guner to fire at will,
Make sure there is the officer in all positions,
Make sure I am in AA mode while on the surface,

Go to f4 bridge view,, watch the plane start the dive, come in,, straff me, bomb me, fly away happily,

and there is my fine gunner, all strapped in, doing nothing,, not a thing, just enjoying the pretty view.

is this a Bernard feature?

This is an historical fault/problem.

Go to the gunners position and fire a few rounds then go back to the bridge position AND NOWHERE ELSE....your gunner should come to life.

How odd, I've never had any problems with ack ack crew asleep at their posts as it were. They whip straight round as soon as the aircraft is spotted and wait for it to come into range. I've tinkered with the range command settings as the gaps I found were too large, short range was too close, medium range often too far for small aircraft leading to a waste of ammunition. So I increased the short range command distance from 1000 yards upto 2000 or 2500 I think, perhaps a little more. At that range they're easier to target wasting less ammo but you've got enough lead on them to down them before they drop their bombs.

The ability of your gunners is gauged by their stamina/experience etc. just like stock/vanilla.

The real difference is in the aircraft, in GWX3.0 they are able to take more damage than those in stock/vanilla.

Before I went to GWX I got a couple of kills on them. After installing, even though I've only fired at 2 Swordfish when I was trying to save Bismarck, it seemed to be entirely futile. Is this because of the damage value you mention or is my aim that bad?
