Have any of you hardcore mods made your own sub sim?
Hi, this is a silly topic, and probably a bit more of a dream than based in reality, but have any of you hardcore moders made your own sub sim? I always thought it would be cool to take an old game engine like the one in silent hunter 1 and build different sub games with it. There's got to be an open ended engine somewhere that we could do this with and have some fun.
Does anybody know of any game building software to build submarine games with? I've messed around with Dark Basic but I don't know if you can do sims with it. Something that didn't involve learning all the C++ and all of that jazz would be great. You know - just point and click ..:p I'm allmost shure nothing like that exist? ![]() trool323....... |

Take a look at the "indie" projects or "classic" subsims forums on this page, there are lots of interesting projects going on, be them new or revival of classics

yep, and your imagination is all that limits you here. someone even took sh4 and turned it into modern sub sim.
here http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...ber+class+subs if you have the patience to learn you can use this game engine to create your own game. |

http://quest3d.com/ or http://www.virtools.com/solutions/pr...virtools_4.asp We use both in the company for which I work. And sure you can develop games with these tools without the knowledge of a programming language but in time you will reach the limits of these tools which can only be crossed with a language like C++.

The XNA platform is becoming more and more mature as well. It is a good platform for PC/XBox and is built around .NET and provides easy wrappers most of the DirextX API's. The architecture also has it's limitations but if you want to play around with coding games in a simpler environment (aka not have to start from scratch working with native DX/OGL API's), it's a good place to start.
