Help with models/materials import

So I've got a entirely new model successfully imported into the game using S3D. My problem however is I haven't the slightest clue of how to properly assign multiple materials to the model. This is true for 3dsmax (uvw. method) and wings3d (obj. method).

This is what I have so far. As you can see the model is mapped with the basic skin texture, but its not using the glass texture for the cockpit.

So, any suggestions from our veteran modelers on how to rectify this problem.

- you need to move the pilot and gunner's head back in the cockpit though

nice floatplane though

UV Mapping in max is a pain in the a%&!

I'm going to use LW soon.

Glass is easy.

Go to materials editor.
Assign an empty slot.
chose a light blue colour.
set opacity to 20
apply to mesh for glass.

You have to separate the glass mesh from the model.

selth the mesh for glas using polygon select.
then switch the detach button and name the detached pieced glass.

There is a more detailed way for high-quality glass. But if your model is low poly it won't make sense.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

However, I must admit I wasn't able to try any of them, but just attribute that to my simpleton brain barely being able to comprehend any of this. I always seem to end up with the mindset of "let see what this button does".

Luckily my random button pushing has bore fruit.

For reasons that I still don't exactly understand I tried setting the body of the aircraft (in wings3d) to use the glass texture and the cockpit glass to use the regular skin after noticing that doing the opposite cuased the body to appear transparent.

And whataya know, it worked.

If you flip the order of the materials in S3D, you can leave the model as is in your 3D studio
