Well, these tactics were efective because allied had a lot of resources like scorts, spare depht charges in the convoys, and HK groups. and it only was possible in 1944-45 when the war was lost for germany.

could work this in 1940 ? probably not,

Eh yes, this Sloop "Starling" was the "Terminator" of the U-Boots, he sink 13 U-Boots ,the record absolute.Walker, the "Starling" and his hunter-killer group was the nightmare of the U-Boots.

I have a book on Walker, and he realy did live up to the legend. The fact that he was treated so poorly early on in his career, but still stuck with the service is a testament to his abilities!

Still haven't had the "pleasure" of running into a hunter group though...

And not sure if I really want to either.
In March 1944 my old U-181 ran into a couple of Flower Class' which was more than enough

U-181 is no more. U-178 lives!
