Default Deck gunning troop transport

I just sunk a 8k BRT troop transport with my deckgun only as being out of torps and already on my way back to port.

It was the very early morning, calm see and clear weather.
But that ship looked really like a small merchant.
But then it started firing back with 3 deck guns at us. Just one hit.

But anyhow I decided not to dive but stay surface and bring some kilometers between us and the transport quickly.
Showing it our rear side it hadn't much stuff to aim for too.

Then we turned and started to head directly for it again at a distance of ~3000km.
So we gave it a really hard to hit target but the transport acted as a giant flare. So good for us.

After throwing half of our deck gun ammo at it it finally sank.

Quite risky that choice, I know. But in that case it seems as it was the right one.
Perhaps I should be a little more cautious in the future though .

It's for those occasions that I always keep 1 or 2 torps, I call them the "just in case..." torps

You were VERY lucky not to get sunk, as even a merchant with 1 gun can cause serious damage to your sub - I know from experience. I tend not to use my deck gun in those situations - its just too risky.
Good job no aircraft were called in, then you would be in BIG trouble.

I ended up with a hull integrity of 20%, batteries destroyed, unable to dive after a little encounter with one of those troopies. We barelly managed to crawl back to Lorient.

You were very lucky.

i take out those basterds with the DG.
just flank right towards them .
the smaller your size the less they can hit you.

its like this :
when you attack a DD it comes straigt towards you making a small part.
but when he turns you can have every hit couse he's bigger then.

the front (_""_) (this has to look like one ) the side (___________/

so the key of not or less getting hit is... make yourselve as small as possible

I did that .

I have to agree with the others though that this was quite a risky idea and don't think that I will do this again too soon
