Oh man..if you get one flag for every kill ,and it is collective through your career....then by late 1944 your boat ought to be looking like a carnival tent and towing a couple of auxillary barges just to display the flags...

...unless of course they are tiny, tiny flags.....

Kills flags go with the boat, IMHO. Skipper gets credit for the tonnage of all the vessels that his boats sank while he commanded them.
