I didn't get a chance to confirm with 100% accuracy, but that thought did enter my mind. However, what I did confirm was that *all* the escorts (about four or five IIRC) did not like me, so I dismissed the Poland theory because I found it unlikely that a convoy would consist solely of Polish escorts, especially four/five, and especially on 2 Sep 1939. Such a scenario would suggest "bug" to me.

It all boils down to: War is hell.
No one particpating in it likes it. The brief respite we get from war in GWX2.1 is a magic period we can visit any port and feel free. Once the war begins things change.

I challenge every single kaleun in SH3/GWX to start in Aug 39 and describe the experience between peace and war.
