Default Passing thermal layer

Hi,
Can someone please tell me how to put an end to this constantly repeated message? Even if I were dived it could not happen every 10 seconds, but on the surface???? I think not.

For someone to answer your question, you will need to post more info, such as what patch are you using, what mods you may be using and in what order are they installed, etc...

Default Passing thermal layer

Hi,
I have RFB, TM, and SH4. with all the major mods and the most recent ones. This appears to have come in with PE3 and is in all three games.

If you're starting a new patrol outside the harbor and get that message, just dive down 100 ft. or so and then surface. Should be quiet after that.

Default Passing thermal layer

Hi,
Thanks Capt Dave, I'll try that. Meanwhile, now I now it must be something I've added to all forms of the game, I can try a process of elimination.

Default Passing thermal layer

Hi Capt Dave,
Not very useful, the phrase came back after a Save. Finally deleted the relevant file. Unless linked to a genuine temperature layer it isn't much use anyway.

you can always replace the Submarine_passing_thermal_layer_INT.wav file in your sound directory with something else (like a silent wav file)...

I know that this message loop comes if the TM mod is used but it could be modification on a file/value used in all the major mods.:hmm:

I only run TM by itself (obviously ), and i have never, EVER heard a Passing thermal layer sound loop.

The thermal layer sound looping happens in stock game. Usually if you save near a port and then restart later on.

Once I do my dive/surface trick, I'm off and running to my destination. I won't hear the looping phrase again until I'm in port for the next mission. I'm using 1.4 with RSRDC, P.E.2 and NSM4.

I have the same issue. RSRD main mod installed. Announcement eventually ends a short time after launching game. Don't know why it starts, don't know why it ends.

I don't know too much about the water mechanics in the game (in regards to halocline [salinity gradient], thermalcline [temperature gradient] and pycnocline [density gradient.]) The thermohaline circulation of the oceans is rather constant for about 90% of the ocean and only disapates at 50-60 degrees of latitude North and South of the equator. Here another interesting event occurs (which could be the key to your problem.) Around Midway and Pearl Harbour an upwelling of water is present, thus having a near undefinable thermocline due to the constant supply of water being brought in by deep ocean currents and the corealis effect. Also the time of year (winter v. summer) will have an impact on everything.

I don't even want to think about the El Nino effect.

Then in theory, if the game is as amazingly written as I preceive it, this may not be a glitch.

I would be interested to see if you get the same 'problem' in latitudes closer to the equator. Because if you don't, thermohaline circulation could very possibly be written into the game as a dynamic factor.

As for your problem, just make a silent sound file for the message.

Yeah, I took my Oceanography final exam today. Sorry for being drawn out though I hope it could help explain why this message would appear so often.

Go Red Raiders!
