http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...-wolfdale.html QUOTE: All dual-core processors from AMD are slower than the new Core 2 Duo E8000 series, which automatically ousts them from the $150+ price segment, where Intel’s dual-core solutions will now become the only player. Maybe also surf to a big hardware reseller site (I believe in the US Newegg is pretty popular) and read the user reviews.

Plays all games great, no problems excpet it did spit at my old USB burner, but for $25 I bought one it liked. Don't let your hatred for microsoft spoil your fun ... for under two hundred dollars you can get Vista and a new hard drive and have fun too.

-costs a lot of money -is slower without any obvious benefit -has compatibility problems -has a security model that causes headache to programmers and users -has drm written all over it -requires massive software and hardware updates if I'm a company -has sensible features removed (e.g. many shortcut keys don't work anymore) -requires me to find a way to disable retarded features before the work can begin -has written "all computers should be like Macs" all over it

If 64 Bit for the usual gamer-office-user really will be a must so soon, remains to be seen. And if 64 Bit will be needed just to run Microsoft'S next crazy OS, I will boycott both as long as 32 Bit is available as a cheaper alternative. Even madness has to have limits and you do not need a Cray to run Office or Word. You even do not need it run FS. The progress cycle is accelerating on and on, and that is not good, since man has biollogical limits - as well as the content of his wallet. More important is to get new CPUs and GPUs that do not consume power as if it is the last day of party on earth. the level of power consummation of PCs as well as internet-related installation has reached the realm of ridicule, as has the habit to let PCs run even when you sleep, as if they are a refrigerator, just to "be available". what is so wrong to switch on the system when you sit at it - and THEN check you email instead of having it stroed on your HD already? This kind of habits are stupid and headless. well, growing and even exploding energy prices in the forseeable future will have a strong educational effect, I expect. On a different note: any news on SP3 for Windows XP? Will there be a SP3-version o0f XP inclduing it? I might be tempted to get that one, as long as the price is reasonable. Telephone-activating my old copy prooved to be a pain (the number of regular actications after many reinstalls have has been used up).
