Bernard in crew quarters

When going to action stations I clear the crew compartments unless I want some of the crew to be rested.

If you suffer damage to a crew compartment your crew (by that I mean those of them resting in said compartment) WILL/DO carry out repairs, but not as quickly or efficiently as a pre-designated damage control party.

If they are carrying out repairs, why does the grey symbol not show the amount of time until the repairs are complete as it does when you designate a damage control party?
