Use of the SD radar before surfacing.
1. The power switch should he on for 10 minutes before using the set.
2. Raise the antenna mast while at periscope depth.
3. When depth decreases to a point at which the antenna is clear of the water (7 to 10 feet), turn on the transmitter plate high voltage switch.

That being the case, if someone wants to use the SJ, they can mantually set depth to 40 feet just as easily as i can.

I might have to work this into the last TM version. :hmm:

edit: after rereading the thread, I finally understand what anvarts saying. I guess im pretty dense. Like marble!

My thoughts exactly for RFB

I've tried this mod in my carreer (Sargo, 1943 with radar) and with the Balao in a schoolmission.
But I cannot get it to work.

When I go to periscope depth, press shift X.
The radar mast goes up, but that's it.. nothing happens.

No contact, when I go to radar depth or whatch thru my scope.
There are plenty contacts.

Am I doing something wrong?

When you go to peri depth and raise SD antenna you will have the message Radar contact if planes will be within the limits of action range of your SD radar ...

It's the SD search radar..
Not the surface radar.

Thanks Anvart,

You know what this mod would be great for? Making a Guppy converted Balao! They had fully retractable radar (as well as snorkles)... Admittedly it's out of the time period, but I still think it would be an awesome project.

Yep, and the reverse is true for when the submarine was preparing to dive:

Quote:
Diving procedure.
When the word "stand by to dive" is passed, the operator will perform the following operations:
1. Turn the transmitter plate variac to zero and turn the transmitter plate voltage switch off. 2. Lower the antenna mast.
3. Turn the power switch off.
