Hi, I'm starting my fourth patrol, and the game CTD always at the same date: May 7th, 1942.
Could be an error in PAC News messages? Checked again: CTD exactly at 17:59 hours, May 7th. Ok, seems like a problem from Captain Midnight's CBS radio, I'm using Radio Manager to correct. Not related with FOTRSU, so ignore me XD Last edited by G97_BoKeRoN; 03-27-19 at 07:31 PM. |

Crush Depths
Where can I find what the crush depths are for the submarines? Shouldn't there be something that at least provides safe dive depths?

OK, I'm going from memory. So I might not be completely accurate. S-Class - 250 ft P-Class - 250 ft Salmon/Sargo Class - 250 ft T Class - 300 ft Gato Class - 300 ft Balao Class - 400 ft Tench Class - 400 ft Of course as your crew gets more experience you'll be able to go deeper. The Balso class you should be able to get at least to 500 ft or a little more. This also includes the Tench class. Hope this helps some.

Beside my Toro class multi encounters that i don’t explain, and the sampans i don’t see anymore, i think you get a good warship behavior this time
Ran into a task force, managed to be in good firing position, but at the last instant they detected me unfortunately... Had time to launch 4 torp to a battleship before diving deep and start escaping. In the hurry, only 1 hitted at the extreme bow of battleship, and he just slowed down without that much flooding... A bunch of DDs depth charged me for some time, and i thought it was my end but they finally lost me as i passed below the main forces and changed radically my heading. Only thing, i never heard any ping... Second time, they almost got me in the Singapore straight where i was very lucky because no depth to escape. Singapore just surrender when i was there, and i had a task force after me, plus a bunch of planes staffing my periscope as soon as i tried to see something... Hopefully the night was coming and managed to maintain good distance to the damn of my batteries. Reached close to the coast to take some breath, but was fired by coastal defense non figuring on map Of course they gave my position to the task force (was too dark for planes) and had to escape again full battery speed... Heading back to Surabaya before the Jap arrival Man, task forces are fun now. They are dangerous but not unplayable ÉDIT: You know what?...on my way back to Surabaya, i met again a Toro class escorting same merchant as before!! Humm... my install was made to the letter like your recommendations...can’t believe it.

at least something i don’t have! My Porpoise charging rate seems good (at any speed) at least like in previous version.

As for the Toro Maru, are you seeing a tanker, or the Auxilary Cruiser? Your earlier posts mention the auxilary cruiser, but like I say, there aren't that many in the mod. I've got a commitment this morning, and when we get home later, I'll start another Manila career and "test" as rapidly as I can. Probably the only way to survive is to avoid contact else I"ll get sunk... Which boat did you start with, and what was your first assignment, or where were you when you saw the first Toro? Where were the others? I'll also do some more "playing" of the files in the ME simulator. Maybe there is a certain Toro that has your name on it, and it's just following you around... - but seriously, the mod uses the ole "use 'em at least twice" trick of routing a ship or convoy all over the South Pacific, hitting all of the ports-of-call, so it can stand-in for three groups. |

Sargo Class better than S-Class
Posted complaint about large numbers of expert escorts in invasion convoy trashing S-23 in calm seas (3 mps) near Luzon. On second patrol, ran into another large invasion convoy near Lingayen Gulf. Glassy smooth seas (zero mps) Decided to avoid contact. Dove to 200 feet and crept off at 2 knots. Escorts came straight for me and sank my boat.
Frustrated, started over in Seal. Sent me to CamranhBay01 with primary mission to patrol and secondary mission to CamranhBay01 (?) and another primary mission to proceed to Convoy College and await orders. Sank four fishing boats, four Sampans and a Crab Boat with deck gun and Ma Deuce. Sank Troop Ship Modern Class, Heavy Mine Layer and Aux Cruiser Toro Class with torpedoes. Choppy seas (7 mps) one time escorts present. Fired torpedoes can went to 300 feet. Did not get pinged or depth charged. Moral. Do not attack convoy with large number of expert escorts driving an S-Boat in glassy seas. Number of ship types - best in class. General graphics and sounds - best in class. Radar graphics - best in show. Missions - ongoing work. Recommend Spyron. Hate go to and await orders and then told to go where ever you like. ComSubPac would have no idea where subs were and which areas were covered and which were not. Dumb. Last edited by Michael Wood; 03-28-19 at 01:02 PM. |

Any Answers?

Five patrols with over 130k tons and no upgrade offered other than a mandatory Coning tower refit? What should be the criteria for getting a boat upgrade out of Brisbane? Conning tower refit (or something in the process) removes the deck gun crew slots? Placement of deck gun moved to the stern, but doesn't show anywhere except as a bow gun in the picture at the top of the equipment screen? I did not reinstall the entire game from scratch. I did delete the SH4 document folder, removed the v0.80 mod, installed the v0.81 mod and let the game rebuild the SH4 file. Did I do something wrong there, or is there a problem with S boats and patrols?

It seems they have real hard time to detect you with waves. That’s good. Calm sea, DDs are very tough. No tanker with the Toros...just the same big cargo every time that i forgot the name. Or alone...I met one just at the exit of North Surabaya bay...end of January 42. All the Toros were in Java sea or around. My sub is Porpoise from Manila start. I love this sub BTW. More challenging than big ones, but better than S class. I sunk the first Toro when approaching Surabaya at the end of first patrol. The others were at the second patrol from Surabaya (had to patrol a spot in Java sea) Hope that helps

torpedobait, CapnScurvy would have to give you the details, but I do know from experience from other mods, that if you leave on patrol with a new gun position, and don't man it when it first appears, the slots will "blank". By the same token, I've seen new guns be given, and going back into the crew slots before leaving, there not be any crew slots for the new gun... Also, if I'm not mistaken, the S-Boats don't switch ends with their guns. Bow mount only (only one mount platform), so there might be something amiss in that... It is all being looked into.
When you removed the v0.80, did you by chance run the JSGME "Tasks - Compare game files to snapshot"? One of the strangest things with this game is what does, and what does NOT get overwritten. If the old mod is not removed completely, and all traces removed in the Save folder, then you might end up with cross-contamination. Michael Ward, where did you encounter that Aux Cruiser Toro? Been seeing a lot of reports of them. There were not that many in the world... but you at least saw sampans... SpyRon is out of the question. We were refused permission, so it is what it is. I changed the order of some of the existing assignments, and their dates around a little bit so that there would be more choices for first missions, including some new ones to Camranh Bay, Hainan & Formosa, specifically built for FotRSU, but you shouldn't get multiple objectives in them... I'll look into that Camranh Bay 01 you mention. Did you get it and the Convoy College after radioing in a Status Report? The "Sinking" missions ("Proceed immediately to area XX and await further orders.") are a Silent Hunter "legacy". There is usually only a tonnage figure attached to them, with "free reign" to go where ever. I've been chipping away at the stone on those to change the "Order" wording, and give a defined area, though in reality, the mission would still be open-ended... When I get enough "translated", I'll foist them upon the unsuspecting public... |

Oh, yes, lot's of sampans, junks, fishing boats and a crab boat near Cam Ranh Bay. December 8th, in port orders were to patrol CamranBay01. Once in boat, opened orders and it also showed a secondary assignment to patrol CamranBoay01, which was completed when first ship sunk. A second primary assignment was also to goto Convoy college and await orders. Received this second primary assignment while still at dock. But, I always send a message when I first enter boat, so I will know when I run out of food (instead of making physical note on departure date), so, "Did you get it and the Convoy College after radioing in a Status Report?" Yes. "...though in reality, the mission would still be open-ended..." Well, I always stay in area I was sent to. Change in wording to patrol in area assigned would be more immersive, even if one can disobey orders and go to Hiroshima to sink battleship and carrier and get medal. Question... I sometimes get orders to go to port and take pictures. When I radio in to say I gave completed the mission, I am sent on other missions. Odd, that headquarters doesn't seem in any hurry to get those pictures, which I turn in a month or two later. Is there anything you can do with this or was this typical behavior in the war? Since I got you, a couple observations. Wake island had 236 Marines and 60 civilians not 4,000 troops. The Wake relief convoy was led by Vice Admiral Pye, not Rear Admiral Fletcher. News flashes in error. "...I'll foist them upon the unsuspecting public..." Snicker, snicker. Last edited by Michael Wood; 03-28-19 at 12:50 PM. |
