Default Magnificent work!

After setting SH5 on the shelf several years ago, I started reading up on TWoS and am giving it a go...so far it has been amazing.

I have encountered one minor glitch so far. When I started my first "practice" Baltic campaign in Memel my boat (a Type VIIB) was sitting with decks awash in the bunker...really "awash"...practically at periscope depth. It slowly surfaces but still only to decks awash. Something amiss there?

I was also wondering if it would still be possible to work on tutorials if I leave the Documents/SH5/data/cfg/CareerHistory tutorial question as "False"? I think I need some practice with all the new stuff before I try to continue on a patrol.

Hi CaptBones,

Nothing to fear with your sub being submerged in bunker. We all see that

Techniciens and engineers are working on few leaks and testing repairs

To do some practice before starting patrols, you could launch some single mission instead of tutorial?
Furthermore in single mission parts, there are some torpedo practice etc

Hey all. My UZO all of a sudden has a square view. I am not sure if I changed any settings. It happened in eastern coastal watters during a massive convoy battle. (ctd happened) before I got several white parts in the screen (radio coding icon, battle stations icon, UZO became white square too. When I loaded a savegame the UZO gave image but remained square. I would like the binocular view back but how?...

I suspect my Nvidia and memory had problems. So now will try running it with msi afterburner.

JGME :

UZO problem :

Now I have never before encountered this problem.

Default Merci ADM Fifi!

Good to know the boat is being repaired and tested before we leave for patrol. I will try the single missions for practice.

I must ad that I will be going shortly to make a contribution to vdr1981 to support his wonderful work. Having done the real thing many times, I have found it positively "enchanting" to again be able to conn my ship out of port, clear the sea buoys and set course for my Patrol Area...

I reinstalled everything as per the manual.

But when I click on the game I do not get the TWOS begin screen but the normal game. So my quick question is : where is the TWOS Game icon/shortcut located ? It used to be in the folder.
Installed the SH5 2.2.7 Full package in the right directory and OFEV worked too as it should.

Ashikaga.

I'm not surprised... Your modlist is a mess mate. TDW NewUI 7.4.2. ?? TWoS is based on far newer version of this mod. Line number 8 for you (from the first post)...

Assuming you are playing TWOS, why do you have NewUIs 7.4.2 activated??

It’s already included in TWOS, but newer version!

Deactivate this old NewUIs version, and i think you will get out of trouble

You should not activate others mods than TWOS one...or be 100% sure of compatibility

ÉDIT: sorry, Vecko beat me to it !

You are right. Cleaning the system up as we speak and doing a new clean install of the game and 2.2.7.

I wanted the old (UI) with the historic accurate telegraph, depth meter and compass/rudder function.

Probably installed too many old mods and stuff together with newer stuff.

Default Sub sighted messages from friendlies

Hi all,

I'm receiving 'sub sighted' radio messages from all ships, including friendlies.

This is on TWOS 2.2.25, Steam version, with no non-TWOS mods installed.
Screenshots of game folder, jsgme, and patcher should be included in the post.

I have already attempted a full uninstall and reinstall, following the instructions closely.

Has anyone encountered something similar? Any leads are appreciated.

Nicolai

No! There is not need to reinstall!

I got this my self, but i knew that was my mistake.

With the "Option File Editor Viewer" (OFEV) (you already have it installed with TWOS: "data\Applications\OptionsFileEditorViewer"), open the "TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py ("data\Scripts\Menu"), go to the "Radio" tab, and disable the option: "Show sub sighted radio messages", save the option file, and that's it!

But this option is disabled by default, I enabled it to see what it does, and that's the effect, exactly as you described. You have enabled it somehow...

Just edit your your option file with OFEV, save, and problem fixed.

Here is a tutorial on how to use OFEV:

https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/sho...&postcount=442

(there is an image showing the Radio Tab content, where you can see the culprit option...)

IIRC there is a batch script file in one of the TWOS folders, to reistall the options file for a default one, in case you did'nt made changes to the file, or if you want to start with a fresh one.

Edit: is the "Restore Stock OFEV Settings.bat", located in "Silent Hunter 5\The Wolves of Steel - Documentation"

Good luck!

Many thanks for your reply, but I think I didn't make clear enough that ALL ships, including German ones, send the messages. When I start a patrol in Kiel I am met with about 50 sub sighted messages from all of the docked ships.

I assume this feature should only activate for enemy and neutral (?) ships.

That's exactly what that option "Show sub sighted radio messages" does! You just start the patrol, and the radio start to flood you with messages from friendly submarines sighted, even the docked ones...
