Default I am back to hating people again: Baby dolphin killed for selfies

http://fox59.com/2016/02/18/rare-dol...-in-argentina/

Feb. 18, 2016) — A rare La Plata dolphin died earlier this month after a group of beach-goers apparently took it out of the ocean, then surrounded and handled it, according to Vida Silvestre, a wildlife foundation in Argentina. Sky News obtained video of a person removing a dolphin from the water in Santa Teresita, a coastal town about 350 kilometers southeast of Buenos Aires; beachgoers then took “selfies” with a the marine mammal, which appears to have been left to die in the sand.
The Argentine wildlife organization released a statement urging people to return the dolphins to sea if they come across them.
“It is vital that people help to rescue these animals, because every Franciscan counts,” they wrote.
The sea mammal, which typically shies away from humans, is found mostly in the waters of the Rio de La Plata and the Atlantic coast between Argentina and Uruguay, and has also been seen off the shores of Brazil.
The La Plata dolphin was placed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species after hundreds of them were caught annually in fishermen gillnets in the 1960s, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
La Plata dolphins — also known as Franciscan dolphins because their brown-toned skin is reminiscent of the attire of Franciscan monks — can live up to 20 years, according to NOAA.

They took selfies and then threw it on the beach. It died of dehydration and heat. I hope the selfie was worth it.

Humans suck. We deserve everything that happens to us.

Not again, was so sad and had a pain in my stomach when I read that yesterday. Now the pain is back again

The worst of it all is

These people they can't see anything wrong in what they did.

They got what they wanted so they are happy

Yet if you gave them the vicious beating they so richly deserve you'd be the one going to jail.

Today at a Love's truck stop, with people everywhere, I walked by an old truck driver standing on the top step with his door open, cigarette in mouth, holding his plumbing and casually taking a piss, right there in the parking lot. In daylight.

You want smell the streets around here early Saturday morning the drunks let loose every where. Streets, walls, phone boxes you name it they tag it.

I once saw this guy doing a hose pipe on full blast on the London Underground in full view of a full platform and it was like hey nothing new here. Pity his aim missed the live rail that would have been interesting.

I saw this article earlier. Apparently there were 2 dolphins and one managed to survive the handling. Dolphins are special in that there have been documented cases of dolphins protecting people in the water from sharks.

From previous posts and threads, I know there are many animal lovers here.

This is just a sad story.

+1, apart from immediate family and a few (count on one hand) close friends, I can barely tolerate people due to their stupidity and "I am the center of the universe" mentality.

I truly think that in the far far future when some alien is writing his/her/its dissertation on the history of our planet, that Homo Sapiens will not be considered one of the successful species of this planet.

Only if he/she/it chooses to tar an entire species based on the actions of a few of it's members and ignores all the good things we've done, like you're doing.

What good things would that be?

Clearly we have made self serving decisions that help our own species but at what cost?

Have we, as a species, ever made a decision that was not in our benefit but in the benefit of another part of our environment? I am sure we have, I just can't think of one.

Zoom out to a bigger picture than just our species. We are part of an environmental system despite any belief that our species is exceptional.

We over populate, consume resources at unsustainable levels. We pollute the very environment that we need to survive. All at the expense of other species. We are a disruption in nature. I think that is how we define an "invasive species".

Not only are we trashing this environment, we have become toxic even among our own species.

Sexual activity has to be tempered with fear that my own species can pass on diseases. People who prepare food have to wear gloves because if members of my own species touches my food I have a risk of getting sick. Those are not indicators of a successful species.

We may have done a lot of good, but that good is only from a self serving viewpoint.

And I am not claiming that I am any different. I am as much of the problem as everyone else.

I am not sure that our species is even capable of thinking outside of our species viewpoint. But perhaps there is hope.

I fervently hope we never obtain the technology that will allow us to invade another planet. We need to stay on this planet and either learn to live here or like other failed species, become extinct.

I am not sure that a third party observer would think differently.

But it is just my opinion.

Of course, it's all opinions here, but can you point to a species, any species, that is any less self serving than ours? Because if you can't then these third party observers, if they exist, aren't likely to be any different in that regard.
