So now do you understand my confusion surrounding how to properly manage the configuration of these two mods?
Call me dumb, but sincerely I don't get your point yet.

R.E.M.7z doesn't contain a copy of the discussed sim file, but four, one for each folder contained in the package.
All you need in order to enjoy REM together with New UI's & Co is included in the same package. Mod order should be like this:
  • New UI's, IRAI, FxUpdate in any combination;
  • R.E.M_by_XRundel_TheBeast_1.2;
  • one among R.E.M. - hydrophone mute for player fix (TDW compatible) or R.E.M_by_XRundel_TheBeast_1.2 - no hyd on surface - NewUIs-IRAI compatible

Either of the last two (alternative) items in the above list will ensure combatibility between TDW's mods and R.E.M, and they will fix the problem of hydrophone contacts getting unadible below a certain depth. The dates o their respective sim files? 15/02/2013 19:05 and 16/02/2013 02:30, if you want to know

That simple; don't make things more complicated than we need.
