Default Old me, new to sh5

Hi guys,

It;s been about a year since I've been around on subsim (since I shelved my sh4), it;s good to find you again.

Before my personal sh4 era I had taken another year off after shelving sh3...and so on .

I just got my SH5 copy, installed it full of anticipation, patched it....and no offence to anyone but vanilla sh5 is crap. To a degree unmatched by sh3 or sh4. I don't know where to begin, but you know perfectly well what I am about to say.

I browsed the mods section, but I don;t know where to begin. Do you still use the famous good old mod enabler ? If so, can you please give a download ink to it ? What mods should I start with ?

Any advice is much appreciated. I would like new voices, interiors, skins, new ships, new intrerface (old style maybe), a reasonable and usable automatic tdc, old shortcuts - everything that essentially will bring back the old silent hunter feeling, that made me lose countless nights.

Thank you

JSGME is still used, will probably always be used Do a search for it in the mods forum.

As far as what you are wanting there are two UI mods available: mine and Reaper7s. It appears Reaper7 has abandoned his though and doesn't work on it anymore. Mine you can find here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...69&postcount=1. As for Reaper7's do a search for UI-boat.

If you choose to use my UIs mod it will take you some time to digest it. Take it slowly and ask questions if you're confused/need help.

Thanks a lot, downloading your mod and patch now. One thing I do not understand, where do I specify which interface I prefer ? (sh3, sh4)

Everything, and I mean everything, is in the options file (\data\Scripts\Menu\TheDarkWraithUserOptions.py - can be opened with Notepad). Don't have a heartattack when you first view that file! Take it slow and easy and read everything. There are MANY things that you can customize in the mod.

Kruger before you enable mod you have to go " C:\Ubisoft \ Silent Hunter 5 \ MODS \ NewUIs_TDC_6_2_0_ByTheDarkWraith \ data \ Scripts \ Menu \ theDarkWraithUserOptions.py " file and open it with notepad. then find " UI style" and select the one you wanna have. by the way check this thread out for more info about mods.

Happy Hunting!

Ok, I downloaded and extracted both archives.

Then I placed the contents of mods folder from NewUIs_TDC_6_2_0_ByTheDarkWraith inside my mods folder in JSGME, within the game itself.

Then I coped the content from NewUIs_TDC_v6_2_0_patch_1 and overwrote the contents on the above.

In Jsgme it looks like this now, is it ok ?

My question is, if only the contents of mods folder is used, what are the other two folders for ? Namely - DIALS and TEXT

By default it is set for SH5Enhanced, am I correct ?

#+++++++++++++ UI Style ++++++++++++++
# Possible UI Styles:
SH5Enhanced = 0
SH3Style = 1
SH4Style = 2

# the current UI Style
# set below to either SH3Style, SH4Style, or SH5Enhanced
UIStyle = SH5Enhanced

Finally, does this look ok to you ?

Read the how to install real navigation , in the real navigation mod before enabling anything .
The other folders are to change the look of the dials , i have never used them .

excellent

Dials is alternate dials for the SH3 and SH4 UI styles. Text is for different languages (default is English)

By default it is set for SH5Enhanced, am I correct ?

yes
see above in yellow

Note: there is a folder \data\Applications that contains some apps I wrote. One of them is used to edit the Ship's Journal offline (out of game) and the other is to migrate your options settings to a new version when a new version is released (very handy!)

Found them, indeed very useful. Thank you for all the support and answers.

I was wondering though, how do I set the sub to go to a specified depth ? I can only do that up to 50 metres. There is a dive and a surface button as well as periscope depth, but no button to hold the current depth.

I also noticed that if I click on an officer's icon, the small buttons and then the second tier of buttons do not disappear unless I click another officer.

Press and hold Ctrl to bring up advanced hud. There you can pick the depth you want from the scale in the left side depth bar. To go to large scale click the X5 icon in the depth bar. There is actually a good tutorial I wrote for basic sub handling depth control. Bring up Automation and select Tutorials from the left side list box.

There are options in the user file to hide the order categories (what you call second tier) on key press and some other things.

Thank you very much, you've put a lot of work into this and it really is a great mod.

How can I remove the stupid bubbles that appear over officers heads ?

Also, I have a strange behaviour on the obs periscope. Even though the sub is at periscope depth and it is fully extended, it barely goes out of the water, therefore it's pretty much unusable. I either raise manually the sub a meter or two more, or I use the attack scope winch works fine.

the obs scope was set to a historically accurate height that's why you're finding it 'unusable'. You have to go to snorkel depth (there is an icon for it in the left side depth bar) to use the obs scope.

You need the no_damn_bubbles_no_damn_halos mod to remove the bubbles or steel vikings interior mod.

With TDW UI mod you use the snorkel depth button on the left of the hud , this brings you to 10mts . I use it to look for planes before surfacing .
No damn halo mod

Thank you both guys, this clears it. Just installed the no bubbles.

About the obs scope height, I remember that in sh3 the scope depth was 14 metres, and both scopes had the same length, I take it they were not realistically modelled, right ?
