Really though for the most part I don't consider Codemasters at all involved in the success of the original Operation Flashpoint since all they did was slap their name on it at release. That beauty belongs to Bohemia Interactive, a dev company still going strong and producing very quality software i.e. ARMA and ARMA2. I too have had the misfortune of playing OFP DR and the state of that game was truly far worse than SH5, so in my opinion these people are not the ones to ask for a new subsim... Half of them probably think an attack sub is a spicy italian subway sandwich with triple the jalepenos...

Well said above. After seeing what they did to Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising it'd be great to see CM stay the hell away from Silent Hunter. The situation might not be that great even at the moment, but CM would definitely manage to make it worse. FYI the original Operation Flashpoints weren't developed inhouse, they were done by an external development team and only published by CM.

Hard to imagine the Silent Hunter series getting any worse, but I guess it's possible...

In Codemasters hands, it is very possible.

As I said...be very afraid.

So sad but true. I don't think the people here can complain about broken AI until they've played Dragon Rising. I think the only fix to stop my squad from behaving like a bunch of taffers is having other people to play with in a co-op game.

I think it's fair t say that all released games have their teathing problems - I got into Flashpoint, the original and Dragon Rising - while DR did have issues I could not say the issues were worse than SH5 - the fact of the matter was that the gameplay was changed slightly, the graphics were improved, but the overall spirit of the game was changed and somewhat harder to take than the original - I think it was the story line, and the somewhat predictable outcome, I wish games producers would resist the urge to tell a story.

I really wish games producers would resist the temptation to educate or entertain - the reason why we buy a simulations is because we know the history - we want to experience the machines or the life, get as close to the historical fact as is possible -

I would hazard a guess that many, if not most gamers are aged between 20 - 45 and are buysing simulations or strategy games because of a particualr interest in an aspect of history - or they simply want something to escape the endless round of reality / cooking shows on TV

So why do producers endlessley churn out games that are clearly aimed at kids - Half the problem with SH5 is that the game was so dumbed down to apeal to a wider audience. The lion's share of the modding crew's efforts are to try to coax some sense of historical accuracy back into the game having been edited out by UBISOFT in a misguided attempt to widen the appeal of a game that could ony ever have a limited appeal

Now here's the thing - there is nothing wrong with a game with limited appeal - SubSim has 40k plus members - so if Ubisfot had any brains they would have produced a game which matched as close as possible what the majority of SubSimmers might want to see - instead they did almost the complete opposite and produced an abortion -

So I hope folks will fill in the Codemasters survey, whatever they may feel about a particualr Codemasters game - because they are the only publisher who've actually taken the time and trouble to ask what people would like to see

Here's the survey link again
http://www.codemasters.com/surveys2/...p?surveyid=163

Best Regards to all SubSimmers

Dont care if they have a crap reputation from flashpoint and recent releases, if they make a subsim its another one to try out and may end up being better than SH. Aslong as it is mod friendly so our community modders can tinker then i am all for it.

Go and ask em for a subsim, or you will never see it!

DONT ASK DONT GET!!

OFP: DR wasn't that at all, despite all the pre-release promises. One of the major selling points of the original OFP was that not only was it extremely moddable, far more so than any Silent Hunters for example, but the developer also released some development tools to the public. This practice has been continued with the later Arma-series from the same developer. This wasn't the case in Dragon Rising by CM. All the pre-release promises of moddability and tools(their forums even have/had a sub-forum for modding the game) turned out to be hogwash: The game was barely moddable at all and no tools were going to be released. From later information it became clear that they'd known this for a pretty long time, possibly right after they chose the game-engine that was to be used, but had been outright lying to the public about it. In the unpatched version of the game some users managed to hack their way into the files and start some rudimentary modding, but this was promptly prevented in the next patch.

Told em I wanted a ww2 U-boat sim with all types modelled, a dynamic campaign, AI and realism that can be scaled from beginner to Kaleun, Graphics come second to this and not to cripple it with some silly DRM that only affects the legal purchases of the sim.

Am I asking for the Moon and the Stars

yup

Cheers

My thoughts exactly. It costs me nothing to ask.

There isn't a game out there that hasn't had some problem.

Some just worse than others.
