Perhaps after the game is released, they'll set up some small unobtrusive sub-sub-forum somewhere for people to discuss the game without interrupting the more important discussions.

I'd submit a corollary to this: The SH5 Bitcher. Someone who has no intention of ever buying the game and continues to inform everyone else exactly that, for whatever reason or another.

I'll watch and enjoy the usual chaos that goes with any new Silent Hunter release. Even more drama this time because of you know what.
![]() There will be differences this time though. Many of the usual modders won't be touching the game in its early months....and possibly not at all. The JSGME will be a crap shoot. If the current version works with SH5 then great. If it doesn't, then folks will have to add and remove mods manually because JSGME won't be made compatible by its creator until an offline version of the game becomes available. So I expect the usual buggy Ubisoft release, requiring significant patching and with fewer mods available. ![]() |

Maybe I am missing something since I have read/seen the same previews/articles/videos everyone else has, but what piece of info makes everyone think this will be more lite than SH3 or SH4 when released. From what I can see it is will have the same realism settings as SH3/4.

Based on how JSGME works, I'd say the devs would need to be quite malicious to make SH5 not work with it.

Guess it's just voyeurism ... like visiting a panoptikum. You are somehow fascinated by that beautifully crafted wax figure - but also aware that the magic will be gone as soon as you examine closer or touch it.

Well, it appears to inherit many of the shortcomings of SH3 (unmodded) e.g. Lack of attention to detail in models and bugs carrying over from past games e.g. conning towers, propeller spin, submerged crew etc. "Zippy" ships Health point system Cylindrical navigation Lack of specific control (engines, trim, ballast) and adds some new ones: Quote:
I was introduced to the subsim through Wolfpack, Aces of the Deep and Silent Hunter. These, while certainly far from perfect, had a number of realism features absent in more recent titles (before modding). My judgment also comes from the perspective of an avid flight simmer, a genre which has many very high-fidelity products. I think SH5 may very well be a good platform for modding, and 6 months down the line I will buy it. I just don't think I would really call it an accurate simulator straight out of the box. Ubi marketing agrees, the game is classified as "action-adventure". Last edited by Turbografx; 02-23-10 at 01:00 PM. |

Well, as the old saying goes, you can wish (hope) on one hand, and crap in the other, which do you think will get full first? The reality of it, as i see it, is: a.) When was the last time any of these games came decent running out of the box? Seems to me, 4 patchs are the norm b.) There is new development here, with a relatively short time period as far as can be gleamed. New stuff, and deadlines = bugs. c.) SH5 used SH4 as a base. which has a ton of unresolved bugs. d.) SH4 used SH3 as a base, which also has its own issues, though not as serious as SH4. So what you have here is a game that in all likelyhood will inheirt all the flaws and behaviors of its predecessors, with some new buggery overlayed on top of that. |
