Huh?
the DDs already accelerate WAY too much... how can a request like that be made, if the acceleration is already off? 1000 tons of steel can only be moved so much... avoiding a well shot eel at 400m leading you... should put an end to your DD career. I propose a different pattern after depthcharging... just let the DDs zig zag after dropping the ashcans, and make some random movements... GWX: DD = drop depth charges, make turn. VII/b = avoid depth charges at periscope depth, wait DD turn, set Torpedo depth and speed Maximum shoot Torpedo at Bow Wave of DD. wait for impact below front ammo storage drink beer, watch fireworks repeat as necessary ![]() If we could have half a dozen ways how the DDs make an attack run, one could not predict their post-attack reactions so easily, and thus nail them every single time... (up to early 1941 that is)

Thanks W Clear! Im only trying to help, us skippers must join together against the might DRM and the allied forces
![]() Im all for time-compression! otherwise we would'nt have a life. DD's should not be predictable, when it comes to maneouvers. I have'nt played convoys-attacks so much as some of you but I've read about the real war tactics: like one DD making noise and confusion, while another sits quiet and listens....like carpetbombing. Like relentless stalking (which could make some of our already depressed crewmembers panic etc). |

I hope SH5 has a setting where it's difficult to the point that I do about the same as the average real life submarine skipper. If I get 120,000 tons per patrol then the game is wrong.

I'd be in support of an Uplink/Dwarf Fortress-style save system where you can't save, other than when you leave the game. I believe this was how it was in SH4, too, only slightly more broken
![]() Of course this'd be for higher realism settings only.

Point 1 is impossible from a gameplay POV, adds nothing to realism, and would kill the game for everyone having to restart whole missions.
Everything else seems acceptable (I think). Cheers ![]() |

I wish I could see two important things in SH5 as for tough realism:
1. Various sort of torpedo malfunctions. Premature detonations, torpedoes running too deep, torpedoes bumping off the ships or not exploding at all. 2. Early in the war and to some extent later, various levels of the enemy`s and crew`s alertness. I mean, there were cases when the destroyers were virtually blind to the surfaced U Boats and otherwise - sometimes the deck watch failed to spot the destroyer running against the Boat in time.

Oh I'd have to disagree with that! Dead is Dead adds alot to realism, in the sense that you might actually start to sweat for real when you hear those asdic pings and you know that you might lose your entire career if you die. Kinda gives you a reason to stay alive no?

I think its should be players choice with saves. you dont have to load the last save if u die. but i think you will need to save often as if your connection with ubi servers goes down, then its game over.

![]() I agree that the ability to restore to a previous point is too tempting to abuse... I know I've done it many times. I would like to have the OPTION to make it so that it only saves when I exit the game, and when I die I can't re-load at all. I think it would be fun to play this way, but unreasonable to force this style of gameplay on everyone.

The accuracy and frequency of merchant gunnery should be altered considerably. Merchants in convoys just didn't blaze away, nor with great accuracy. They didn't steam with their guns manned all the time, and firing would cause issues for the escort and tend to expose the firing ship far more than was worth it. Gunnery effectiveness of merchants is one of my pet hates through the SH series. It's just so unrealistic. Even a warship would take a bit of time to fire on a sub from the moment it was detected. Quote:
Fine, IF you're using steam torps. Electric leave no wake. Convoys also didn't start zig-zagging madly, nor did they alter course in 2 seconds. I remember reading accounts from merchant seamen who said one of the most nerve-wracking experiences was having ships go 'bang' around you and having to maintain convoy course and speed. |
