Let's hear what the United Nations has to say about SH5

Modded SH3 definitely looks much better, which is not unexpected really; modders take their time and produce quality work, developers run to a tight schedule and have to make do.

I still can't tell if the SH5 interior is too big, but it does feel bigger.
Especially in some shots:

HEY! That's my department. Don't be slaggin' me for correctin' peeps no more, okay! Hatguy, or whatever it was you called me!

I think Flakmonkey's SH3 interior is outstanding as well, but JScones's comment is true as well. People have been working on SH3 for five years now. Just think what SH5 might be like with that amount of love and care.

Still, if SH5's campaign system is that much better...

What's the loading times for the SH3 one though?

the SH5 engine is designed for the big interior spaces, and thus probably loads in a fraction of the time it takes SH3 to load that mod.

GWX still takes around 30-60 seconds to load a campaign mission on my rig.

Still looks good in the SH3 screens, but performance wise? some of the lesser PCs might struggle if you walk from one end of the boat and turn around to look the other way.

Just my two cents.

I agree. It seems somewhat off.

I don't think such comparisons are fair. The devs are constrained by schedule, cost, and governed by system specifications, modders are not. I'm sure that if SH5 shipped with the modded SH3 images (as superior as they are), many less players would be able to enjoy them thanks to less than adequate computer specifications.

Besides, it's only a matter of time before such accuracy finds its way into SH5 - what you see there in SH3 is certainly not only doable in SH3.

Definitely when modders already have something to build off of, when developers don't. Such comparisons are definitely not fair.

I dunno why; it's been on display in one form or another since January 18: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=160385

this is true, but not the whole story. An important factor, i believe, is the love for realism and accuracy. This is the work of an artist who is clearly a sim fan who wants to get the details correct. There is a crucial difference between a sim gamer and an action gamer. The great modders of sh3 (the GWX team, WAC, DD, flakmonkey, raptor and all the others) are striving toward greater realism and an experience which is accurate to the life and times of a uboat crew. Many of the great mods of sh3 are not even graphic but data that's been painstakingly reworked to reflect the historical aspects of the war, the correct workings of the uboat, accurate sounds, instruments, etc, etc. Indeed this takes time, which devs may not have the luxury of, but it also takes a desire and passion for the subject at hand.

i wish the best for SH5 and ubi (after all they have given us the best series in SH) I only hope that it plays more like a uboat simulator and less like an arcade game (cause i dont know if that can be modded away)

My word, SH3 really has changed since the last time I played it. (Spending my time around Japan these days)

Very nice. Modders really are miracle workers.
