One of the biggest complaints about SH4 was that same sheening effect applied to the external views. Also the wavy shimmery look when seen underwater. Great for a cartoon but not something you see in real life.

Back in SH2 some modder made a binocular view with some water drops. Not particularly realistic since they were 'frozen' in place, but still cool as that was the best that could be done at the time. These raindrops are indeed quite cool to see, but should only be on the periscope and binocular views, including UZO of course. They should not be on the external views.
Careful Steve....the mention of cartoon and SH4 in the same post has brought about some varied reactions from folk in the past

Not really bashing. I think it looks great, and from the replies so far so do most of us. The raindrops thing is just a minor quibble. It's not going to affect whether I buy the game - not by a long shot. But I still get to whine, don't I?

And I'm the one who said SH4 didn't...

I didn't say it looked cartoonish - I just said that the wavy part looked like something you would see in a...

Ohhh, I got a bad feeling about this...Dan's gonna jump all over me. I'll be peelin' taters the rest of my born days.

The sequence in the submarine is obviously FREECAM and not FPS .

You should know better than to quote all those pics again (to be kind to those with slow connections)...

It's not. The video is doing exactly what Ubi marketing is intending it to do. Snazzy graphics create more buzz than a list of gameplay features. This shouldn't be taken as a sign that gameplay is being forsaken due to graphics....yet. We'll have to see what comes on release day.

i never said not to have it at all, quite to the contrary im thrilled to have it and its great but i do not want to see it for the free cam view, thats all.

I'm with Webster and Steve. This is one of those minor things that will piss off some people but not others. For me it is about taking screenshots. I don't want water droplets all over my screenies so all I want is the ability to remove the sheening effect from free cam. I'm more than happy for it to be there on binoculars, UZO and periscope views because that is where these effects would exist in RL.

C'mon guys stop crying about the water drops. If the camera config file will resemble the cameras.dat file of SH4, you'll be able to delete the CamerEffects node and take all the screenies you want
