Yes! The official specs from the devs are 512Mb Card like NVidia 8800gt/9800gt or ATI 4850 512MB. will cost about 80€ at the moment and expected 60-65€ in march 2010

I do agree... I am very sure that this is La Spezia... if you compare with Sh3 ad the landscape you might also come to this conclusion.

Lot of criticism here...

Of course it will never be perfect (graphically speaking) and will always have work for modders.

The way i see it, the glass is half full.

Was it possible to use in-game or forced antialiasing with SH3? I am curious if SH5 can be played with antialiasing.

I remember the bloom option but I can't remember if there was any antialiasing with SH3.

Having bought a radeon 5850 recently, using just a little antialising would be really nice I think

Nice graphics.... I hope there are equal improvements in the simulation aspects of the game also.

There is more to a simulation than glitzy graphics

Although I know thats what sells video games.

Do not be too critical.

im not being too critical, its only natural to point out a few things here and there.

the rain hitting your eyes doesnt mean you dont blink and you "see" water drops running across your eyeballs, this is my objection.

i have been at sea in pouring rain and i never saw water on my eyeballs, no matter how bad it got i kept my head at a downward angle and never looked up or a simple cap on my head blocked the rain from my eyeballs so i dont want to see that water on the screen from "every" view. if you wanted to have it when on bridge then i could say ok maybe your wearing goggles on the bridge to have it on that view but in a free cam look you shouldnt see it at all IMO.

as to my comments on ships breaking cleanly i should clarify that while its true the break has a small zig-zag edge to it, it is still pretty well straight where i would prefer to see it look more like a 45 degree angle or something. as someone said thou, its aparently very hard to do so i think what they have done is a big improvement over the old look of seperated sections.

I've already swung back and forth on this issue a couple of times. I will commit myself to saying that I agree with WEBSTER. One of the cool effects in SH3 was the 'sheening' or water running off the periscope lens when it was first raised and anytime it dipped under the water in rough seas. One of the biggest complaints about SH4 was that same sheening effect applied to the external views. Also the wavy shimmery look when seen underwater. Great for a cartoon but not something you see in real life.

Back in SH2 some modder made a binocular view with some water drops. Not particularly realistic since they were 'frozen' in place, but still cool as that was the best that could be done at the time. These raindrops are indeed quite cool to see, but should only be on the periscope and binocular views, including UZO of course. They should not be on the external views.

Yep, 100% agree.

Now that we've seen how SHV looks like, the big question from now on is the gameplay? (let's hope they've learned from SH4)

BTW, i wonder how much time it takes once they stop working on the game and between the time the game is on the store shelves?

Assuming it will be out in mid-march, how much time they got to continue their work? (is the game in a finished state and they are only testing it ???)

i don't get it. Why already bahing the 3D engine?

It looks like sh4 but improved, yes very IMPROVED.
Most defaults of sh3/4 engine were fixed and some new features are on the way.

I like the rain drops - it reminds me 3Dfx voodoo card and godlike NFS III [OT]

Now i hope for AI improvement. DD's sonar effectiveness affectes by deepts and range to U boat.

And i'd like to see a decoy like in old silent service II, u know throwing jackets, pictures afted a DC run to fool the DD your'e sunk + the normal fluid decoy already in SH3\4

Its the outcome it gives thats important . A bit harder too see in rain conditions and for immersion . I am sure you will be able to turn it off so whats the problem . Better to turn it off or mod it out for people that dont want it than not to have it at all . I think its great .
