What i usually do is to initiate CD, then, when the dive has started (even before the boot is completely under) I select the wanted depth - f. ex. PD. I usually end up reversing the dive at approx. 25 meters.

Another way, when in shallow waters, is to select AK (flank) at the same time selecting PD (P). You do not loose much time at that.
