Default taking a break...

To all of you who keep posting about purple water, lines in the water etc.
I will look into it sometime, but at the moment im taking a break after some very intense months trying to squeeze as much as possible out of the SH4-engine. It's been a fight against the way the engine works, because the SH4-engine has alot of bugs/issues from scratch...

One of them being that you can only define one light source which is the sun so when the sun goes behind the horizon the sea would go black unless you had:

1. very calm sea, because then the reflections from the sky could make the water ligter.
2. No dark clouds, because then the shadows of the clouds would make the ocean black.

To archive a more natural colour of the water instead of the black silver like ocean which could be seen i modified the shaders so that the clouds shadows lightens up the ocean instead of darken it and had to increase the reflection-power in the scene.dat and the way the different files works.

So enjoy PE4 and know that I am aware of the problems

BTW and thanks for the nice comments about this mod it makes both me and Nisgeis happier so that we can try not to concentrate about all the things we wanted to do at the begining of PE4 and the things we had to scrap due to problems with the way the "old" SH4-engine works.

I love the weather effects in this mod. I just experienced a sunrise in a light fog. The sun attempting to break through was really awesome to watch.

Have a good rest.

However, your comment made me remember one thing. Some time ago I played around with some particles. At some point I was testing a particle that was travelling along with the sub. I placed it high above the water, sort of like a flare if you will (although it wasn't). But it can illuminate the environment. I have not tested if this can also be done with a light node, but I'm guessing not. In any way, this certainly is something to remember if you want to investigate this again (possibly it can be used to fake dim lightsources at night in a certain radius around the sub)...

Regards, skwas

Interesting... Are you saying that the particle wasn't a light source? When I was doing some testing of the flares that don't light anything up, I discovered that if you have a flare and set it's size large, you could get the camera 'inside' the particle and it would make everything seen through the particle look like daylight. It made everything light up though, even the far horizon, I abandonned it. Is that along the lines of what you were testing?

It's been so long I can't even remember what I was trying to achieve... (although it wasn't the intention to light up the surroundings) I've just had a look if I still have the files, but I don't. But possibly it's similar to what you have tried. I just recall it as lighting up the environment.

I obviously have no real clue about what you have modified and experimented with in the shaders and scene.dat/textures etc, nor am I a HLSL guru (I know my way around, made S3D's shaders and other stuff) but have you considered things like lower bound clamping of colors or color ranges? This may pose all sorts of other problems of course, but hey...

I can live with the purple wake. I thought maybe I missed a fix somewhere. Enjoy your time off, kriller2.

Kriller2 - thank you for the mod. It is good to know that after your rest you will work on fixing the lines and purple water that occasionally I find. The other facets of this fine mod relating to the environment improvements make the gaming experience so much better to see as compared to the vanilla environment. I appreciate all the hard work and effort on the mod. Enjoy some rest and good luck in your continued support and improvement of the mod.
