Just one small point not mentioned...you will incur an extra day at the supply ship for every % point of damage your boat has taken.

Didn't know that.... So what is the unmodified number of days normally spent at supply ships?

One day, as far as I know as long as you do not have damage to the hull, which jimbuna mentioned above, in the previous item.

I think the 1 day "in base" at a supply ship is a Commander feature - I don't think the game adjusts down your DIB if you dock at a supply ship instead of returning to port. OTOH I've never done it without Commander so I don't know.

With or without Commander, though, you still get those extra days for hull damage. It can be edited out by tinkering with career files in between patrols but I haven't done it for a while.

No big deal, they're not fully equipped so I don't expect them to be as proficient at repairs as a full port. If they can only hammer out a limited number of dents each day - so be it. They're not miracle workers.

So I guess the moral of the story is - don't dent your boat.

Actually it is a big deal IMO when you have to top off the fuel tanks at a supply ship in order to get your seriously damaged boat all the way back to base, only to have the game tell you that you sat next to said ship in some neutral harbor for three weeks and all your damage is miraculously repaired.

That's why I don't like the extra DiB for hull damage in that situation. It's not a question of whether or not some repairs could be made, it's a question of how lengthy a stay there is realistic. 1-2 days, yes; 2-3 weeks, no.

I agree. A supply ship in a neutral port shouldn't even be able to give you more than one or two torpedoes. A full load of fuel and some food is the best they should be able to do. A few parts to let you make some of your own repairs might be possible.

A complete refit should only be done in a fully supplied naval base with a drydock. The whole resupply thing was never done right by the devs, and the modders could only do so much with what they were given.

Fair enough...

My only concern is how unrealistic it would be for a supply ship to complete all repairs in a ridiculously short period of time. As for the other side of the coin, (namely spending an unrealistic amount of time along side), I can totally see your point.

Perhaps Steve is correct in suggesting that full repairs should never have been implemented by the devs. Better to complete makeshift repairs (on a timely basis) and then limp home for added drama.
