Default 16 km mod for SH4?

There also a 16 km mod for SH4 as we know him from SH3? By this I mean a greater visibility in the game!

Greetings

I am updating and refurbishing the old playable Iowa mod that Peabody made. I canged the subvisual file and you can spot ships from well beyond 30+ kilometers. On a fine day, this was possible.

In stock SH4 you can already see 20km. A 16km mod would make it worse, not better.

@ Karle94: That's an intriguing idea, but I think 30km is a bit far to see anything from the bridge of a submarine. Just my opinion, of course.

Not that spotting reports would make a huge difference usually, since you do get radar that can do it from much further away!

Yeah, I think 20km is where it is, and that's approximately the graphical limit of SH3/4 anyway. So you don't need mods for this aspect.

I concur, the SJ Radar (and hydrophone) negates the need for it, and besides. what can you really see with binos that far anyway?

Just a thought.

But the enemy ship artillery (all calibers) fires only from 7 kilometres away!

Are you sure? When I was trying to use celestial nav. in SH4 (w/ RFB) I was not able to see mountains beyond 10 nm, IIRC.

With the distance to the horizon even being on a raised platform, like the conning tower, or the lookout perches, 20km distance should be more than enough for distance sight.

Short little concise article on the topic,

When I stand at the water's edge and look out over the ocean, how far away is the horizon?

This could be done by the ship-sensors (visual ) and the firingranges.

In FOTRS V2.0 which is under construction big BB´s firing in a range about 15.000 meters, Cruisers about 12.000 meters, DD´s about 10.000 and Merchants about 6.000 meters.
Every Class got their special visual sensor.
BB´s didnt fire on subs on this large range because the sub is to small but you can see BB´s firing at each other over that long range.

Regards

Maddy

It was not made for submarines, but battleships.

20 km is 10.8 nautical miles.

Yes, you are right. For some reason I was thinking in terms of statute miles.

It won`t change the visual range. It just makes your watch crew spot ships further away, well beyond the distance that the binoculars can see.
