Yes exactly, if the target is moving away, your AOB is 180 minus the AOB found with the disc. One more thing, if you use the 1.5x zoom you must multiply the horizontal marks by 4

Hello, this is my first time posting on subsim and I have been using the OneAlex mod for quite a while now. According to the u-boat and equipment chart the type XXI should be available for purchase in early 1944 (I presume april since the GWX manual says so) in the 11th flotilla. However, with this mod and the "realistic u-boat availability dates" option turned off I still do not have the XXI until 1945. Is there something I am missing or is it hard-coded into the mod for realism?

I've followed all the steps for how to install the onealex mod for SH3. And I'm right at the end where I'm trying to get into silent hunter commander, but I can't. When I attempt to launch it, it of course prompts me to run it as admin. I do so. Then it loads up, but doesn't appear on my screen. However, I see it in the taskbar. And when I hover over it with the mouse, it's just all white. I cannot enlarge it or move it or anything. Due to this, I'm unable to use the mod or play the game. I've got no idea what to do.

Exit out. Start SH3 via the Cmdr.exe (Commander). You should get an explorer window asking you you select your install. You've rebuilt your Save Game Folder so if that was messed up, it's fixed. Make sure all your importation .exe's (SH3.exe, Cmdr.exe and JSGME.exe) are set to " Run as Administrator" and set to "Win 7 compatabilly." this is what I would try . If I was unsucessful, then I myself would start from scratch.

Thank you for your reply. I appreciate the assistance. I have done the following...

-I watched the install tutorial 100% through, twice.
-Restarted my computer every time it didn't work.
-Deleted all anti-virus software from my PC.
-Tried different compatibility modes for all three executables (Windows Vista and Windows XP2).
-Read the install manual from the discord many times.
-Checked drivers, checked for viruses, checked for updates, checked for corrupt files. Fixed any problems that I encountered.
-Watched "how-to" videos on how to fix applications running in the taskbar not showing on display.
-Done a dozen checks for compatibility and admin priv for all three main executables to ensure they're correct.
-Uninstalled and reinstalled +6 times, followed instructions, using different file extractors for some of them.
-Followed the instructions to a tee each time for installation.
-Set up the save game folder in documents after loading into a fresh install of SH3 (not the Steam version but one found in the mod).
-Changed appropriate settings in SH3 to meet requirements for the mod.
-Set up JSGME where there were no overlapping errors for mods.
-Created shortcuts onto my desktop for the main executables.
-Drank half a dozen beers in anger/frustration.

I never get to the point where I see the Explorer window. I can't even get Silent Hunter Commander to display itself on my main screen. Even though it's running (not frozen I checked task manager). All I can do is hover over it on the taskbar with my mouse and see a blank, white page. The same goes for when I try Alt+Tab.

I'm a bit confused. What do you mean by "Did you point your install to it." Are you referring to the JSGME mod loader when it asks me to identify which folder sh3.exe is located in? If so, yes. I've done this correctly. Otherwise, I don't know what you mean. I dropped the GWX Onealex folder in the root C: drive. As shown in the image attached to this post. I've also attached another image of what I'm talking about with the Silent Hunter Commander executable. I have never, in SH3 or SH4 been able to successfully mod the game. This is always how it goes and every single time, it kills me. Something is wrong and I can never find out what. I eagerly await a reply from anyone who has an idea, thank you.

It is highly recomended that you remove ALL files left over from a previous install before a new installation of OneAlex or any Super Mod installation as that goes. Yes, I uninstalled SH3 through Steam. Then I deleted the folder in the directory file where Steam is located. After that, I checked the documents and found no saved folders. I think that having multiple screens set up may be a part of my problem. I will try the installation of the mod again while only using one screen.

after i create my save folder in DOCUMENTS. (Sorry if I didn't see if you did this or not), by first starting SH3 via the SH3.exe not Commander, yet. Exit game. now start the game via Commander (Cmdr.exe). The first thing that pops up will be a small window asking you to select your save game folder, just created for this particular install.

It crashes at 25-30% Loading Bar in Career and at 100% in Single Mission, both just go to a black screen and then CTD.
LSH 2022 doesnt seem to have this issue for me from a fresh install of it however. Doing the same for OneAlex (Plus using MultiSH3 to change its save directory and then creating the necessary files by booting via the OneAlex sh3.exe) does not seem to work by comparison.

Yeah, i've followed the instructions and also redownloaded/reinstalled the mod just in case that the files got corrupted.
I've also tested Fifi's NYGM version and that one also works.

I think I was getting a CTD until I reran the 4Gb patch, even though I think the SH3.exe was already patched.

What about your graphics card? Is it NVidia? I know that OneAlex has suggested settings in his documentation for the NVidia control panel for the SH3.EXE.

Also, did you check your PC graphics settings to make sure that your PC is running the GPU and not the integrated graphics chip?

I've got laptop Huawei Matebook D16 2024, with no additional graphic card, only Intel Iris Xe on board.

The Iris is capable of running the game easily, but your computer has 1920 × 1200 display, which is 16:10, and OneAlex is meant for a 16:9 1920x1080 resolution, if I'm not mistaking. You might have to tweak some SH3.exe Compatibility settings, plus, if you are using the default SH3 save folder in both GWX and OneAlex, you have different settings, so you might need to use MultiSH3 on one of your installs, or delete the Save folder when changing mods. You will lose all progress made so far doing that...

Edit: Yeah, that "1920 x 1200 display..." was supposed to say "NOT 16:9"... :oops:

I suppose he can change his graphics settings to display 1920 x 1080 and see if the game runs, but it won't be native to the computer and might have some performance issues. This should just have some letterboxing on the left and right edges.

Something else I've recommended for older games with memory constraints (like Civilization IV) is a small program called Process Lasso by Bitsum.com. This program manages the prioritization of processes that run in the foreground and background to try to optimize CPU performance by lowering the priorities of certain background processes in order to give the foreground process (the most visible to the user) a smoother experience. One feature of Process Lasso is "Trim" which will ask certain programs to release memory as available RAM gets tight.

Some programs (I suspect SH3 to be among them) use a lot of RAM at startup, and then that RAM sits allocated from now on. Process Lasso has another feature called "Process Watchdog" which monitors the performance of specific programs and can set triggers to perform certain actions. For SH3, I set Watchdog to monitor SH3.exe for virtual memory exceeding 3,200 Mb (3.2Gb) for 1 second and then Trimming SH3 memory.

The specific settings are:

Process Match: sh3.exe
for: virtual memory
Greater than: 3,200 megabytes
for: 1 seconds
then: trim virtual memory
Virtual memory metric to use: Working set

Then click on Add Rule.

If you're CTD is memory related, this might help free up memory while the program is loading, certainly while you're playing. I wonder if this might also address late game issues that I've read when lots of vessels might be loaded into memory.

Looking at files structure I've noticed strange thing - I have installed GWX OneAlex Edition 1.53 to SH3 folder at system drive (C:\), but don't have specific save folder (after executing SH3.exe), only C:\Users\Jaxa\OneDrive\Documents\SH3\data\cfg folder, there is save.tmp file and other files. Shouldn't be there Save folder?

I do not have OneAlex mod on this computer, but it seems to me it is a full install, which might include a FileManager.dll from his game, and could possibly point to another location. If MultiSH3 (https://www.subsim.com/radioroom/downloads.php?do=file&id=5656) is not in your install, download that, run it, and see what it says the Save folder is. After running a fresh game, there will not be very many files in the Save folder, only the basics.

Try this.

Normally, the instructions say to launch the game and then move to a safe place to save, then exit the game, then edit the patrol and career cfg to match the career start date. However, you can't get to that point because you can't launch to begin.

So...

How about starting with native GWX, create a save game, delete everything except the career folder from that save game, then start OneAlex with that career and see what happens.

I've just disabled OneDrive, but after unpacking and setup GWX Onealex Edition I have still SH3 folder with data/cfg files in OneDrive folder and CTD again. :hmmm:

Here is a long-shot idea.

Try rerunning the h.sie/Stiebler options selector. The two pdf files explain the mods managed by this exe.

First, make a backup copy of the sh3.exe in the main folder.

Then open the Support folder then the Stiebler4C_V16B1 folder, and then copy the sh3.exe here.

Now run HsieOptionsSelector_V16B.exe. You should see all of the options already selected. Clicking OK will update the sh3.exe in this folder. You can also click on the Stiebler Mods button to open a second set of mods. Some of these mods won't be checked because they require additional files to be copied. Clicking Cancel will return to the main mods selector, clicking OK will update the sh3.exe again.

When you exit the selector app, copy the updated sh3.exe back to the main game folder and try running it again.

Sometimes, I would start the game, get a CTD, start it again immediately, get another CTD, start it a third time and it would work.

Hi, it is more than 10 years I played SH3. Now I will come back and need some help.
I wanna try OneAlex mega mod and go with it. I remember a lot of mods, I used years ago...
Reading OneAlex and GWX manuals now..

Many things are explained, but for many things I am not sure, so please help me with this list of mods. I've been reading for some time, but there's so much information and mods and I'm overwhelmed.

In SH3 Commander select the date of !0/1941, then select the 23rd/29th Flotilla. Now in the "Career load screen" in SH3, don't forget to Select the year and Flotilla there too. It's just the year there no month. Then you select the 23rd/29th, you will start in the Med on 10/1941. I think Salamis Greece. if it's La Spezia Italy no big deal. One one my Maga Mods starts you there, and I can't remember which one at the moment. but either or, your in the Med.

As for your first question I'm not sure.OneAlex 1.53 runs in 1920x1080 by default. Don't change that unless your monitor doesn't support 1920x1080. If you tried another resolution, and your monitor does support 1920x1080, only a complete re-install will fix this. Did you set the SH3.exe, Cmdr.exe and the JSGME.exe to run in the Win7 capatibillity mode and run as Administrator. Installed OneAlex outside "Program Files. If you have another install of SH3, you have to rename the "Save Game" folder. other then that not sure whats going on .... sorry

Had the same issue (CTD on first patrol on a new career)
I downloaded mod from link which is in OneAlex YouTube channel 'about' section.
Then I did everything that's in installation instructions and game is just working fine... For now :D
I had to download some broken .7z archive earlier...

Germany has two IXBs listed. Once when scrolling from the bottom up, the first one in order on the list crashed the game, though I cannot reproduce. The models for these two IXBs look different but the description looks the same. Is there a reason for two being listed?


Germany also has a VIIF listed. The characters (English text) are gibberish.

Hello! I feel almost silly for posting this because it's such a non-issue, but the texture for the g7e TII torpedo is not loading properly. The G7a (1st picture) works just fine, however when I fire the G7e (2nd picture) it doesn't work right at all. The confounding thing about it is that when I load up the model in Silent 3ditor it works just fine (3rd picture). Is there a way to fix this?

I just want to say, after playing SHIII for nearly ten years, that this mod has consistedly gifted me an ambience of immersion, tension, and that general sense of "fun" that a subsim entails.... which is not quite comparable to anything that I had experienced before.

Hey all, I have downloaded and installed this amazing mod (it really is the simplest method I have tried so far to get up and running with a good sim experience), however I am experiencing some texture glitches. Some textures appear as completely black, as if they are missing.

These are the BdU orders screen, the radio messages screen, the captains log screen, and the charts in the attack periscope.

Also (no screenshot available), the passenger/cargo entry in the ship rec manual is black.

Note, I am on linux running the game through steam proton. Otherwise it runs very well. Does anyone have any idea what could be the cause of this bug, and how I can fix it?

Edit (solution): I switched to proton version 6.3-8f and all the textures seem to be working correctly now.

I like to have a fixed ship view "." button. When the weather is bad with 15 meters wave, to my liking, it doesn´t look good. Too shaky. Is there setting to change that?

just started playing again after buying this game nearly 20yrs ago now...and installed this mod...I'm having a problem getting all of the slide-out tool-tips on the left side of the screen to work...for example I cant' click on the observation scope or raise that round weather thing on the conning tower...or lower or raise both scopes in the little box within the tool-tip itself....any help would be appreciated.

What I find works for using the UZO in the Onealex mod is: I click F4 to stand in the open bridge, and Shift-U to mount the UZO binoculars on the bearing transmitter. Then I left-click on the UZO with my mouse cursor.

I don't find that the U keystroke takes me to the UZO view any more.

Ctrl-U detaches the UZO binoculars, and stows them below. I believe this is historically what U-boats would have done to prepare to dive, as the UZO optics could not tolerate pressure from deep submergence. If I order a dive with UZO attached, the crew seems to know to stow the UZO without an explicit order.

Hi, I have had a few Crashes to Desktop (CTD) while playing SHIII with Onealex 1.53. The circumstances have been that my boat is submerged, I am being hunted by enemy destroyers, and I've recently launched torpedoes. I believe in most cases I was looking at ships with the F12 free camera.

My computer is old, with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Intel i7, 8GB RAM, and GeForce GTX 670M with 1920x1080 resolution.

Onealex 1.53 runs very well on my computer most of the time. My guess is that when I'm submerged and hunted by escorts, there's too much going on for my computer to handle.

I've stopped using JFO!_Mod_v2.1_OneAlex_Edition_Edit_by_Tonci87 and SH3Commander. I appreciate both these mods, but starting Onealex 1.53 with the sh3.exe application seems to make it less prone to crashing CTD.

You did it correctly, just means there are no available AI uboats in the area to help.

The time between your first contact report and the wolfpack attack
depends on the initial distance between the Uboats and the convoy. During shadowing, you'll
get some orders from BDU. Follow these instructions. But sometimes BDU messages get lost
or come too late - chaos, as in real life. If the wolfpack reaches the operation area, BDU will
wait for good attack conditions (dark and no fog) and then order to attack. Then, some time
later, the convoy battle (hopefully) begins. But it is possible, that the order to attack does not
come in time or even gets lost. Bad luck, as in real life. The time period influences the
availability of wolfpacks: In 1939, no wolfpack Uboats are available. In 1942 the chance is
very high that a wolfpack is available to help you. From 1943 on, the chance strongly rises,
that hunter-killer groups sink/damage the wolfpack Uboats, so that they don't reach their
operation area. Then, BDU orders to attack alone. Your position also influences the
availability: Wolfpacks are available in the north- and south atlantic, but not near land. It is
important to send contact reports on a regulary basis - every hour, if possible, in order to lead
the wolfpack to the convoy using the shortest route. Otherwise the chance rises, that the
wolfpack isn't able to reach the interception point in time. Then, you have to attack alone.
Weather also has an impact: The higher the windspeed, the higher the chance that the
wolfpack Uboats get fuel problems or similar and don't reach the operation area in time.

Had an interesting issue.

1942 Jan. VIIB

Running onealex mod with no additional mods.

Was damaged by a destroyer that knocked out all my conning tower and deck equipment (radio antenna, deck gun, flak gun) and minor damage to the actual conning tower.
Command room flooded a bit and main pump was damaged and repaired
Radio room flooded and was damaged and repaired.

No other damage observed and only thing out of service was everything topside.

I try to move an officer into the aft quarters but a message says "compartment destroyed". I never received damaged to that compartment so not quite sure what happened. I did not reload or save scum during the whole encounter.

Got back to port and the hull was still 100%, so the boat wasn't as badly damaged as i thought (even though it knocked my boat out of service and had to return completely empty handed after a 35 day patrol :( ).

Trying to determine if this is a bug or maybe a corrupt install with onealex mod over my GWX?

Your last statement “with onealex mod over my GWX?” left me a bit confused. Did you copy OnAlex over top an existing install of SHIII. SHIII is an all-in-one mod with the game program, patches and some must have sub mods included. SHIII is not to be installed over top an existing SHIII installment, or activated by JSGME.

If you wanna have two different installments of SHIII. one of OneAlex and the other of GWX, then you need to run multi-sh3 and give each separate installation it’s own safe folder.

Hi.
I have been using U-Boat and SH5 for the last few years but I have now come back to my beloved SH3 and I thought I would try the OneAlex mod. I have read this and other forums for the last two days but no matter what I do, only the academy works. And it works great. But try as I might, if I click on missions the red bar loads up and blam, back to desktop. I am an experience user of mods and computers since the 80's but for the life of me I cant get this OneAlex mod to work on missions or career.
I have tried every suggestion on here and elsewhere. The standard GWX Gold mod works great but not this one. Someone somewhere must have the fix. So many on here with the same problem of academy working but not missions. I have a modern gaming PC with windows 11, 64gb ram, RTX4080 16GB Vram and the game is installed on its own solid state drive.

PLEASE HELP THIS OLD SEA DOG.:arrgh!: PS, yes I have followed the instructions, the videos and everything else. If I had some hair I would be pulling it out.


EDIT: Well folks, I managed to fix it. I now have it running on my 32" 4k monitor at 1920x1080p resolution. I don't really know how I fixed it other than installing the onealex mod and then following the install instructions, created a save game and then created a career and then installed the widescreen resolution that comes in the mod package. The sim worked great but obviously with pretty low rez and that different GUI. But I wanted the full OneAlex version so I then deleted everything and unzipped the mod again, followed the instructions except for doing the save bit and career bit. AAnd guess what, it all worked as it should. Done about 6 quick missions so far and started a career.
It is working fantastic. And so much better than I even hoped for.
