Environmental MOD_1.1 for Silent Hunter 5
Environmental MOD is based on the reality of different climate, a comprehensive adjustment of the color of SH5. And to rectify a lot of mistakes. For example: poor day the atmosphere is very realistic, there is no refraction of seawater. The sun is not halo, the bubble is very dark color of the moon and the glow is very rough, three different latitudes colors the same error, and so on.
Major adjustments:
1. The new wave, from 0 meters to 15 meters.
2. Changed the fog close visualization.
3. To change the brightness and halo of the sun.
4. Different colors in three different latitude waters.
5. Different atmosphere in three different climatic, ClearDay, MediumCloudDay, PoorDay.
6. Different sunrise in different climates and different waters.
7. Adjusted all the underwater colors.
8. Moon halo more realistic, and the increase in the moonlight refraction.

I noticed the same. The water actually looked horrible at Wilhelmshaven in winterstime. It also behaved kinda strange... the u-boat were rolling and bouncing almost hitting the roof. And there was no storm. I removed it for now.

I loaded the two parts up via jsgme and always get a ctd at the loading screen- has anyone else had this?
After disabling the mods again, it loads ok.
Will try another download and do it again.
What should the final file sizes unzipped be in size?

I had this bug before installing a mod, 2 weeks ago when I had just bought SH5.

Yes i agree, the std water is awesome for now, I have some new clouds from another mod, but I'm sure W_Clear will make things even better, as he did befroe, I will just wait and see how progress for the moment, I'm very happy with the std graphics for now :)

Like I said your work is great just need to look into the really bright metallic shimmering look when you raise the camera up and see the distant ocean, looks just like the pictures on post #7, thanks for the hard work, this mod has a really nice looking wet look to it when you dont raise the camera, like when your on a low angle looking at sub. :)

Water Color variation excellent with wind speeds 4+
Water color and wave look too smooth and unrealistic at wind speeds 0-3.

Heres stock water at 0 wind. Notice the sub below the water has greenish tint. Great effect by the devs.
Stock waves ripples at low wind look perfect already. Maybe just tweak color and leave waves patterns stock?
New wave animations and pitch/roll seem to be working good at wind 3+ :up:
Sun size and color good. Could use more sun-flare but thats Nvidia's problem :damn:

I see a problem with this mod.
On patrol it was a pitch black night but clear conditions,no fog no rain.
But i was unable to see the destroyer i just had attacked.He stood in flames completely but i was unable to spot him.So i searched with external view for the Destroyer and found him by using the map.The fire suddenly popped out of the dark when i got closer to the ship,at about 300m, and vanished when i moved behind this ´300m mark´.
shouldn´t i be able to spot this burning ship from more than 7 miles in a dark night?

Not since SH3 have I been satisfied with light generated by fire at night, there simply isn't any! I don't know what a Modder can do to correct this. On the plus side; the fire in SH5 looks better than ever before. The rather ironically named Lighthouses don't generate any light of their own either. Not very useful then, are they? :shifty:
There is also a problem with the Spotlights. In Sh4 surface vessels were illuminated by spotlights, not so in SH5. Yet another thing thing that probably would've been implemented if the Devs had the time :cry:

Well, it isn`t graphics engine problem... Night effects itself are kinda broken in this mod, pitch black night where you can`t see any weather effects, same as in post above. Sadly, it is one of the reasons I`m not using this mod.
Checked both, with EnvMod and Vanilla.
Vanilla I can see the fire many miles away at night,problem it´s not very dark at night..
EnvMod simulates a realistic night scenery(pitch black) but i´m unable to see fire from more than 300m away..so sadly this is a no go for me
Maybe the problem with the nights is caused by the FogDistances.cfg. Maybe using Winmerge. Compare the FogDistances.cfg with the vanilla one or with one from another mod and try adjusting.
But maybe it´s not a problem also, I have the 300 m Visibility only with medium fog. And pitchblack nights + medium fog then in reallity you´ld be lucky if you could see so far.
The only problem I have after installing this mod is the weather report. Wind 15m/s, sea is nearly calm, and the 1WO is always saying "Wetter verbessert sich". That means weatherconditions improves although there is no sign of improving weather.
I use this mod and I´ll stick with it. Great work.

I've adjusted the. . . . According to your photos, Light water color seemed not feasible in SH5. In addition, when water color became lighter.we can't see the white foam on the water:hmmm:. It's very difficult to create white bubble, and I can not make it whiter. But I adjust large part of water color according to your advise although.
The adjustion of small wave in 5M/wind is very successful. But it's a pity that it directly damages wave in 10M/wind, so it force me to give up the beautiful small wave in 5M/wind.
I create a simple storm cloud today, the effect is acceptable. But I wish you to complete it/:salute:

yes I remember the problem about how adjusting small waves affected the larger waves, but we found a good compromise with our RE mod, so it should be possible to hit the sweet spot again..

Just a query, in the image below (with 3D clouds switched off, my system can't handle them :cry:) the cloud layer seems to be duplicated 3 times and off-set slightly. This is also the case in the Stock game and so is not your fault. Is this just a trick to simulate depth with two 2-dimensional images or just to have the layers move over one another to simulate a swirling atmosphere? Most importantly, would removing the extra layers improve frame rates?

correct, there is a const texture coords array for the clouds shaders with 4 texture coords (2-4 are shifted in Y direction). The array is defined in cloudsSh5.inc

The sky looks good allmost all time and I haven't seen banding, but it's quite dark which it should be, unless the moon is shining.

In regard to night time light, it should be pretty dark, but not so dark that you cannot see ship silhouettes, there should be enough star/moon back lighting unless in a storm. When out at sea in cloudy weather, you cannot see anything basically. If you are looking for anyone's opinion about your clouds kriller2, I like them, but I think they would look even better if you could blur their edges a bit more. This is just my opinion/observation fellas, your work is breath taking.:salute:

If the sea is chopy with white caps, the bioluminescence is everywhere, not just behind large ships. Anywhere the plankton exists, if the water gets chruned, either by ships or churning wave action. You can see the bioluminescence and when iat sea far away from any other light sources, the bioluminescence is very bright.

Easily 2000-3000 meters. We always had a Soviet Trawler following and the Trawler was visable almost all the time. So I am basing this on that visual contact.

Just spent 3.5hrs in realtime with a nice crescent moon and all the stars shining bright only to have no visibility, this was at 8pm gametime
Had 4 destroyers almost ram me point blank
It's got to the point i'm having to do "reverse u-boat tactics" eg: try and follow during the night, then risk an intercept in broad daylight as i can't see 100m at night lol even when a crescent moons shining
If the nights are staying so dark, any chance of pointing me in the right direction to do some photoshopping ?

Great mod, you fixed the gradient lines at night. I like the fact that the environment changes as you travel. One concern though, I loaded a mission in the mediterranean and the sea color is green. I believe it should be more blue. Great work anyway!!:up::up::up:

I did not change any Mediterranean Sea.
In the stock version the Med has a red value of 40, which results in a TemperateClimateNorthern.
In your mod you did not change the Mediterranean red value, it is still at 40, which results with your modded ClimateZones.cfg in a Polar_AClimateNorthern

Just had a chance to try this. So far it looks beautiful. Of course I must play under different conditions before I can comment any more, but I can say this - the new brighter night option is in my opinion perfect. No matter what, thanks for this mod.

One thing - I try to play as realistic as possible when installing the new version of your enviro mod I notice it clashes with U-boat Historical Specifications 1.3 there seems to a clash in the submarine folders - can this be sorted as I want to use both mods
By the way for those interested in a challenge turn off map updates - wow what a difference it makes - is a pain to start with but if your seeking a challenge it will blow you away

Gave it a try and and very nice... got caught in a storm and couldn't believe the beauty of it, only thing is that I never saw any lightning flashing on my crewmen... heard lots of thunder but no flashing. Use the Mighty Fine Crew mod and didn't know if that would affect it or not.
Made a few personal adjustments (water a little less transparent and gave underwater a slight greenish tint). I don't even want to look for ships right now... just travel to different regions and soak up the scenery. :up:
Edit\ Hmm, after restarting the game from my saved point in the storm I now see lightning flashing. :yep:

Nice grey north atlantic, lots of lightning in bad weather. Removed all mods with JSGME before installing this and then re-installed my favorites watching for any conflicts. Ran the sim smooth as silk with yours visuals awesome. I didn't check the changelog closely but the boats motion through the seas looks particularly realistic. ( That could be one of the other mods ). Underwater is also real (been there...) THIS MOD IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ! Make it your first mod and add your favs carefully and you should enjoy the outcome !!!

Simply place AilClimateZones (and other Ailantd's mods) after Environment 2.0 in JSGME. It worked fine for me:

Hi W_clear,
The mod looks great. But I'm sorry to say that there seems to be a bug that causes CTD.
I tested this 8 times and the crash heppened everytime in the same place. I do have many mods installed, But I removed your mod and didnt get the CTD again.
The CTD happens at the spot shown in the Screenshot (screenshot taken shortly before the CTD). At 15:59 (gametime) the game CTD with no error message. Traveling in the direction of the waypoints.

Simply place AilClimateZones (and other Ailantd's mods) after Environment 2.0 in JSGME. It worked fine for me:

This climate zones fix is nothing but one .tga file, so it cannot conflict with other mods, including Env 2.0.
W_clear, could you ask Ailantd's permission to use his excellent ClimateZones in your mod?

reduce distress for excellence in your mod has a simple problem of climate zones, but because I was interested in him than I can put forward
these inconsistencies that hinder my opinion has greatly his "realism". not only the problem of the Mediterranean Sea. Another example of problem: there is more in the zone file ClimateZone.cfg polar region of the Antarctic continent in the southern hemisphere.:hmmm:

Hi W_clear,
The mod looks great. But I'm sorry to say that there seems to be a bug that causes CTD.
I tested this 8 times and the crash heppened everytime in the same place. I do have many mods installed, But I removed your mod and didnt get the CTD again.
The CTD happens at the spot shown in the Screenshot (screenshot taken shortly before the CTD). At 15:59 (gametime) the game CTD with no error message. Traveling in the direction of the waypoints.

Hope you can fix this. The game just doesn't look the same without your mod.

A pair of screen shots made using your mod in English Channel. Impressive, but this doesn't look like Atlantic in any possible way. Skies are too yellow, water is too green.

The problem is the dirty created ClimateZones.tga in this mod, the CTD's with this mod also occur elsewhere on the map.

based on the vanilla climatezones.cfg this gives the complete region the
Northern Climate

the values are not constant, especially near the coast, here we have no more constant red values, it varies e.g. 60, 62, 40, 41, 42, 43 for red.
Now if your sub moves from a region of 60 into a region of 42, the game engine can't find the correspond Color42 climate zone because it don't exist in this mod
