Installed 3.2 froze one hour out of lorient on 1tc reloaded tried again same thing. removed 3.2 I'm running going on 3hours now some things up with this mod .hope there is someway to fix it . I miss it when it's not there.

Anyone got a copy of 3.1 they can upload?
In the meantime, I may have to try that Sh5EnvModGold I keep seeing Sober raving on about.

one question,can you live with this ctd's or use you the game only for screenshots?
dont get me wrong,youre mod is great but unplayable.

you release updates with the same error in the ClimateZones.tga since 2 month.
maybe fix it in the next update? :-?

The problem is that me and W_clear are unable to get CTDs with this mod. We cannot reproduce the problem on our computers. That is why I always ask people where they are getting them, because I cannot find out myself. Most folks say it is related to TC while using this mod, but I routinely run at 2056TC and I don't get them.

Maybe it is a graficcard problem, im using a ati 5770 and i have crashes.

Here you go Viking.
I was already in port when I changed from 3.1 to 3.2, I rarely TC above 512, and always leave port @ 1 with me at the helm.
Since 3.2, I dont seem to be able to get any further than the area circled on map, at any TC(tried upto 2048), manually or
by waypoints, going between the mainland and the island or going around the island to the south, using all my mods or just yours.
Since my post #752, I removed 3.2, and have made it all the way to Londonderry and dropped off my spy, now heading out to mid Atlantic for a patrol.

Dont think its gfx card related. I had a gtx285 with crashes. Now i've upgraded to gtx480 and it still crashes. It happens when leaving docks (clicking start mission), when using compression over 1024, interacting with crewmembers. Note that it's all random and not always happening.
If i remove the mod and keep the others i use there's no crashes.

I haven't had any crashes yet during a brief game (round an hour of play time) after I installed This (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=170162).
First you enable the environmental mod in JGSME, and after you enable ClimateZone 2.0.

Maybe it's a different version than the one you're using? Anyways, it fixed the problem for me (atleast I think it did, don't have any time to test it anymore today)

By the way, the icy weather around the UK was because it's january :)

I also think that it`s not GC related because when I`m using Ails climatezone.tga I didn`t have single crash.
Of course I lose some of those climate zones but at least I don`t crash at least expected time/moment...

I got CTD´s ingame which stopped for several hours now after deleting my last mod called DBSM Speech 1.04..... That really should not be, as these files just don´t touch the env. mod files. So I guess it might just be as simple as saying: the more mods you have, the more likely you´ll get CTD´s. No matter what combination of mods you´re using...:06::hmmm: (Wclear posted a similar statement a while back)

Has anyone tried to run the env. mod alone, w/o any other mods activated? Did it crash?

I ran it once with just tdw 's 270 and it did crash but that's as pure as i got.

No changes. crash right away when too close to land using too high TC. Will now update to 3.2. In case I get no changes will install Env. Gold (never tried before, probably cool also)) and reinstall DBSM Speech and Luftwaffe Radio. Funny, worked fine before DBSM Speech, took it out and now I get crashes every time anyways. Must say that this really cannot be.

Environmental 3.3 MOD for SH5_1.2

1. Adjustment ClimateZones.cfg and ClimateZones.tga,It makes you feel more different water.
NOTE:Hope that the players do not place the junction in ClimateZones more than 1024 times the compression of time.The problem is the question the game itself.

2. Adjusted the color of all the MEDIUM_CLOUD_DAY .

Also, this one reintroduces a problem that I had fixed in my last version: Two climate zones which are more than one step away from each other in climate are adjacent to one another. People will CTD with this at no TC, and will CTD a lot more when in TC.

No, I have been spending all of my time on interior modding lately. However, I will make a better version when I get the time for it.

Nope, 3.2 and 3.3 are full mods, you don`t need to install 3.0.

Just wanted to drop a line that I navigated the Dover Strait at 2048x TC and got no CTD.

Don't know if it helps, but I remember it being a problem area.

Climate zones crash to desktop bug , i just take the climate zones out before enabling . They are more trouble than they are worth . The rest of the mod is fantastic .

I have had no problems so far but i am in the arctic . funny thing though upon returning to port and ending patrol , i got a huge bolt of lightning inside the pen.

SteelViking usually updates his mods to be 100% compatible with Env versions. I usually insert Steel's lower in order but I'm not positive is he's updated the lights.cfg to be compatible. Steel will be along shortly to point you in the right direction. :salute:

Just as Sudo said, V1.1 of my interior mod is 100% compatible with W_clear's Env 3.4. And, just as Sudo said, you need to install my interior mod after Env 3.4 for everything to work properly.:salute:

Environmental 3.6 MOD for SH5_1.2

1.Adjust the direction of the moon light error
2. Adjusted the color of the EnvColors_Tropical and EnvColors_Tropical_A.
3. The moon is more delicate structural adjustment.

I just did a clean SH5 Install. Upgraded to 1.2 patch and loaded only this Environmental MOD. I get random CTD when crossing environmental climate zones.
The ClimateZones.tga is using a 32 bit color Pallete and should be using a Web Color Pallete so Image Color Matching (ICM) is not part of the color formula. ICM can vary depeding on Monitor Type/Mfg causing a variation in color that does not match the colors defined in the ClimateZones.cfg. The ClimateZones.cfg defines the colors in a Web Color Pallete format.
Web Color Pallete has nothing to do with ICM and supports 256 colors. This is more then enough colors to define the climate zones.

I watched closely and noted the position of every CTD. When I located these positions in the ClimateZones.tga I found that each CTD occured at a climate zone transition.

NOTE: All CTD occured at 1024+ TC

Display Adapter: NVidia GeForce 465 GTX 1.5 Gig
System Memory: 4 Gig
CPU: Intel Q9450 Quad Core
OS: Vista Home Premium 32 Bit

The main locality where I get CTDs, is near Norway (Bergen) as well as on transition to Narvik (NNW of Norway) where I'm about to enter The polar region and at 1024 TC

I have been trying to make a ClimateZones.tga using the 256 Color Web Pallete but I keep getting a 1 or 2 pixel line of blending between each zone. The blended color is not defined and can cause a CTD.
Tried it in Paint.Net, Photo Shop Elements 5.0 and GIMP. Not sure what I am doing wrong. The color change from one zone to the next must be absolute with no blending.

Another damn nice looking mod got only 1 complaint above water it looks good no great ehhh I mean AMAZING, but when i go underwater with camera it looks like there is more light under water then above water.

Is there a way that I can make underwater look like Sh5EnvModGold mod?

I dunno how to mod but maybe you know if there are some files that i need to delete and then add the mod with JSGME so I have the underwater look of Sh5EnvModGold but the above waterlook of [REL] Environmental MOD for Silent Hunter 5 (W_clear)

Thanks W_clear for your mod. I installed it yesterday and still discovering all the addition it brought. I'm disappointed with one feature though: my boat floats on the surface like a bubble again, jumping and dancing, and it sits too shalow in the water.

I've been using U-boat Historical Specifications (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=168012) mod by ddrgn which is excellent and fixes many boat behaviour issues, "bubble" one included. Is there any chance you could incorporate this mod into yours or just use some of its solutions, or just make them compatible somehow?

Although this mod is good I had too many problems with it and went with Environment Gold. Hoping the issue can be ironed out soon.

Yes, but then I would most probably lose many good feature of "Environmental", and don't want to (would be wrong to lose them before I even learn what they all are). :DL

I think WClear did some work as far as how the sub floats also, but I prefer UHS. I delete the entire Submarine folder from WClear's mod and UHS doesn't conflict at all then. :yeah:

I just installed UHS (U-Boot Historical Specifications) on top of Env. and it works. I got both candies in the same time. :88)

My environment has now much more... horror in it.

Also for those experiencing the dark black glitchy clouds around certain harbors, try deleting the particles.dat file located at ENVIRONMENT3.7MOD/data/library/
If that doesn't work also try deleting anything else that relates to particles such as clouds or fog. I'm not sure the exact file that causes this, I believe it's the particles.dat but haven't done full testing to be sure.

Nice work on 3.7 W_clear, I usually have to delete the climatezones file in order to enjoy the rest of this great mod without crashing. I've been using the 3.7 version for 3-4 hours of gaming now and have crossed several zones while using TC, hadn't experienced any crashes so far while leaving the climatezones file remaining in the mod. Btw your new work on the moon looks terrific. :salute:

I load UHS after Environment and UHS works. I don't know what I lose from Environment, but I experience no unwanted symptoms, like CTDs, and everything looks fine, so I'm glad.

At night the moon is not showing up but there is a light reflection on the sea as if the moon is present. Do I need to install all previous versions of thiis mod to get it to work properly?

From what I can tell so far this mod adds a better feel, keep up the good work!

No, the latest version is the entire mod. As long as you are using V3.7, that is all you need.

Where are you in the game geographically? And what time of year is it?

Could it not be possible that the moon is just barely below the horizon? I would think that you would still get a little glare effect on the water in that situation.

I'm near the South Western approaches heading to my patrol objective for British Supplies. It is still early September '39.

It could be that the moon is below the horizon, however, in my previous attempts at Total Germany during this time and location I recall the moon being high in the sky, without this mod installed. I also must note that night time is now much darker than stock SH5.

I finally got to see the moon and its improved rendering (Nicely done!) so all is well in the universe hehehe.

This mod is fantastic! for one thing the thunder during storms is way more intense and the way the sea changes colours during different conditions really caught my attention.

I'm not sure of what else to expect, however, I would highly recommend W_Clear's envronment mod to anyone.

I think many people would recommend this mod, Ninja. BUT..... lets hope you get lucky and your patrol doesn´t end up on your desktop. In this case check out SteelVikings possible CTD fix. Good luck.:salute:

It took me a month since getting the game in August to figure out the proper installation of SH5 to eliminate 99% of the CTD's I was getting in the beginning, now with this new mod I haven't had any since playing for the last couple of days.

Sounds alright, Ninja. Maybe your combination of Mods does the trick. I basically crash all the time with some versions of EnvMod and less often with others. Since I am currently doing a fresh install with 3.7 (which I haven´t used yet) I might get lucky myself. :yeah: (Basically a thought I´m having all the time before a new install) :yawn:

Hey Frantic,

If your going to re-install try this trick I found on these forums which I'm sure works as it helped me to virtually eliminate the CTD's.

You need to download patch 1.15 if you don't already have it then do the following:

1. Clean install SH5 do not run it after install
2. Install patch 1.15
3. Run the game using sh5.exe and make sure you get to the main screen and your version should say 1.15 then exit game
4. Run the game updater (GU.exe) in the Support folder of Silent Hunter 5 and update to 1.2 (the last patch)
5. Install your mods
6. Play the game (you should now be able to enjoy the sim with far fewer CTD's

Sounds interesting:woot: but how do you stop the gamelauncher from automatically downloading 1.2 when you first start the game?Second thing is the question whether it´ll even start w/o this dang launcher.If you can tell me that I´m with you.

Is it okay to manually load 1.15 w/o starting the game or do you have to get to the main menu with 1.15?

After you patch to 1.15 the game will not automatically update (at least it didn't for me)

I made a mistake in my instructions (sorry) after you patch to 1.15 you need to run the Game Updater (GU.exe) in the support folder of SH5 to have it update to 1.2

I will edit my previous post.

You have to get to the main menu with 1.15 so you can confirm that the patch took by making sure it says v1.15 on the screen

With this mod, is-it important to have 3d clouds feature enabled or it doesn't make a big difference ?

I mean, perhaps some feature require 3d clouds (Moon behind clouds) ?

Dont confuse the launcher updating for a patch of the game. The launcher updates independently and is part of the copy protection.

No I know the launcher updates itself first, then it´ll automatically go for the patch, eg. its update routine when you tell it to start the game. According to Ninja this step will not initiate if you manually install 1.15 (or maybe it will and you´ll just cancel I guess). Following then his step by step instructions (check a few posts back and you´ll know what I mean) should erase some ctd issues (according to ninja who read that in some forums). Will try it soon.

I use the All Clouds mod to supplement this envirnonment mod. It brings some nice 3D clouds and it also hides the moon and sun behind clouds. However it overwrites some of W.Clear's files.

Environmental MOD is based on the reality of different climate, a comprehensive adjustment of the color of SH5. And to rectify a lot of mistakes. For example: poor day the atmosphere is very realistic, there is no refraction of seawater. The sun is not halo, the bubble is very dark color of the moon and the glow is very rough, three different latitudes colors the same error, and so on.
Major adjustments:
1. The new wave, from 0 meters to 15 meters.
2. Changed the fog close visualization.
3. To change the brightness and halo of the sun.
4. Different colors in three different latitude waters.
5. Different atmosphere in three different climatic, ClearDay, MediumCloudDay, PoorDay.
6. Different sunrise in different climates and different waters.
7. Adjusted all the underwater colors.
8. Moon halo more realistic, and the increase in the moonlight refraction.
9. PoorDay added all the water refraction,

Oke, I will give it a try without to remove or mod in anyway this version... hope the ctd's will not start again.

There is another thing you may take over from Ail, the rain. By default this mod not change the rain drops, they are still huge and ugly.. is the reason why I used another Ail mod, Ail Rain 1.0.

Tested, works like a charm, no problem at all. I still like better Ail clouds, but overall I have to admit that there is more improvement in the sky in this mod. Also I had my doubt to overwrite the UHS .sim files, but I like the changes, my sub is floating better now on water.

Regarding the sound, I believe you should keep few of them in the mod. These are the sound files I still use from the older versions and as far as I know there are no better versions around:

Same here.

Got a lot of trouble with this mod, but now works smooth without any need to mod it. And I can pump up the TC to 3k+ again without any crash. Agree, now is on the "must have mod" list. Great job!

Mhmm dont know if its correct, but i just installed it over 3.8 and got no crash till now. Soo i guess you can just install on top
even installed it over some other mods, but i of course replaced again the files that where overwritten and shouldnt be. Just a matter of file management :DL

edit: just got a crash near the french coast.....dont think its my install, hope it doesnt do it again^^

Well I tested this version of the mod out and 2 things immediately strike me:

1) The problem with random crashes to desk top still happens.


2) Night time ( even at the dead of night like 1 or 2 or 3 am is way too light.... looks more like 6 pm )



Its frustrating because this is a great mod. If you can solve these 2 issues then it would be utterly awesome. For mow Im heading back to envmodGold which doesnt crash SH5 and night feels like night.

As in all previous versions, this mod includes again wrong zones in the ClimateZones.tga with RGB values of eg. 86-0-0, 102-0-0 or 48-0-0 and similar, which are not taken into account in the ClimateZones.cfg and lead to a crash if the sub goes into such an area.

Why not creating the zones in indexed color mode rather than RGB mode ?
Fixing the indexed colors to red 0, 40, 60, 80, ... switching anti-alias off and such false red values not happen any more ;)

I spend some times to hunt and suppress all these illegal red values. You can download the corrected "ClimateZones.tga" file on my site here:

I just finished to test with this new file and apparently it work. But I am not a good tester for that, because I was lucky enough to not encounter this CTD since now. Probably, those of you, who detected this problem, should have a save & method to test if my new "ClimateZones.tga" definitively solve the problem.

W-clear is a busy guy, so go easy on him, most likely he's busy in RL but will post soon enough, and don't forget a single guy can test forever and a day and find no CTD, whereas many people can help pinpoint a problem

I think some of the frustration you are seeing here on this thread is just a result of us all realising what an AMAZINGLY good mod this is. It makes our game (that we all love) look about 3 times better than stock.

I am in awe of it really...........but just sad I cant use it due to CTDs.

I played with the 23.20 to 01.30, departures was not playing with the east coast of England is the first mission, is happy:woot: that the elephant. It may be a case of it being lost within this thread [over looked] :dead: If you have spent a lot of work in the development of a correct ClimateZones.tga and you seem upset that no one has noticed.....it may be in your best interest in the creation of your own modding thread, name it something like;

[REL]ACSoft SHV MODS

Place your mod/s into that thread. You never know it might be the start of your modding endeavors :06:

You must seek yourself into the "W_clear" mod and replace the file (location: "data\Env\") and of course, you must do this before to install the mod with JSGME.


If you have spent a lot of work in the development of a correct ClimateZones.tga and you seem upset that no one has noticed.....it may be in your best interest in the creation of your own modding thread, name it something like;

[REL]ACSoft SHV MODS

Place your mod/s into that thread. You never know it might be the start of your modding endeavors :06:

I am using a way not to reinstall the game when it is corrupted or altered by some mod.

First of all you must have enough space on your hard drive.

Then you have a copy of the DATA folder, which as you know is inside SH5 directory in a different direction from where you are, if you compress it much better that way does not occupy much space on your disk.

Then you did this backup, install the mod you are going to install, if the game is corrupted install, unzip the DATA file and replace it with the original which is on the board of SH5.

:)To me it has worked with most of the mod, when I had the problems ...

Of course, privateer, a mod that fixes a bug is something good ! But, speaking of JSGME, I persist to believe that in the present case, to replace the original "W-clear" file, is a much better & simple solution.

Personnaly, I avoid ANY interferences between JSGME mods, which is the ONLY way to be sure everthing should work as modder intended to. When you have interference(s), if you don't have yourself the capacity to analyse in deep the potential consequences of stacking them, you are playing the sorcerer's apprentice of Walt Disney !!!

Yes, of course privateer, but this does not mean that every bit of knowledge, as you say, should become a JSGME mod. What was important in this example, was the fact: 1) I decided to do this work and: 2) I decided to not keep it egoistically just for me.

Can't say for sure if only in fog, but checking some saved foamy wave situations, it seems there is always some amount of fog in the weather report, although fog not particularly visible as such. Don't have a saved game weather condition with stormy foamy waves in non-fog sunshine at hand, for a comparison.

I am also sorry to say I am having CTDs. I tried the fixes posted - still ctd.

I was having a second problem - I was getting graphic white outs with things like the clock or weapons screen. I am running vista 32bit and have read this may all be a memory page issue.

I not sure if this mod is causing my ctd, but without it both the above problems stop.

Trevally, I also had the same issue many times and I got many ctd's where the source of the problem was pointed out to be some dll .. as far as I remember was something related to directX. But first, check your program list and make sure there is no new version of Microsoft Visual C++ installed over the default one installed by SH5. That will crash your game no matter what, 99% of any SH5 ctd is caused by this problem. If ur not sure anymore which one is the right version for SH5, just unintall al C++ and install it again from the SH5 dvd.

it's the mega-mod compilation (with some tweaking and massaging by me). Environment 4.0 is part of it :D

Sad news ! :cry:

But this mean that there is other reasons/problems than the "ClimateZones.tga" with illegal red value, that cause CTD on your system.

I suppose you have already identified that it is really this "W_clear" mod who cause the CTD. Now, it would be nice if you could isolate which part(s) of the mod is(are) involved in these crashes. I say "involved" and not "guilty", because it is most probably a problem of compatibility. Not everbody seem to suffer of CTD with this mod (me, for example). But, nevertheless, if the problem can be isolated, there is maybe a way to overturn it ?

Maybe "W_clear" can publish here, a list of the goups of files constituing each modifications of the whole mod, so you can remove modifications, group by group, and determine which one still provoke your CTD.

Yesterday I was reporting that I still had CTD with this mod (and ACSoft fix). I then was advised to check my C++ files.
This did not fix my problem, so I removed env4 again.

This did not fix my CTDs either:cry:. In the past it always had:hmmm:

After lots of testing and reloading I ended up having to remove both the enviro4 and steels1.2

After I did this I then discovered the cause of my CDTs = 2 large convoys within the 30km loading radius. With 1 convoy everthing is ok but as soon as there are 2 my system gives up.

I guess my comp specs are working on the edge. When this happens I can get passed it by removing any mods that may demand more of my system than it can handle.

I am sorry for reporting here that this mod was causing my CDTs as it was not.

I need to look at upgrading or a new system:O:

Hmmm, looks... perfect.
But are you sure that the distances visible is without changes?
I ask because AI recognition works with numerous distance, not real "fogged".

I'm afraid that at screens is too close...

On first screen of this topic (ver. 4.0) I saw rain without fog.
Did you disconnect rain from fog effect and create them independent?
Because with combination fog+rain game can simulate power of rain as in real:
light rain - visible 2km
medium rain - visible 1km
high rain - visible 500m
