I see that there is no Black skins for USS Drum. So, I modified FooFighters Hi-Res Black Gato with USS Drums Patch. Here's a Picture during Night for you (Note:The kill flags have been removed & I included the Photoshop files). I have a reference pic for the SS Number, I might add that and if anyone could point me to a pic where the draft numbers are displayed I might add that as well.

Credits go out to FooFighters for creating an awesome skin and the Kill Flags mod team.

Thanks, Rebel:up: Nice work on the early war Drum.:rock: I'll put that one up on the sqk's site so it'll be there as a choice for anyone assigned the Drum. Maybe merge it with the weathered skin so there's a combo (black early, silver late) choice for that skin, too.

As far as putting the SS numbers on the conning tower or the hull, if you put them on the T textures, it will get reversed on one side or the other (the port, I think). The only way I've found to get numbers on the side of the hull or the conning tower is to put them on the O textures (...\Data\Submarine\NSS_Balao\NSS_Balao_O01.dds for the Balao hull, ...\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex\NSS_BalaoTower_O01.d ds & O02.dds for the Balao conning tower). Doing it this way, you can avoid the mirrored effect, but the only colors that will show are non-white (further from white, the better they show), so you can't get anything to show very well on black. I believe that the draft numbers are in the alpha channel of the O01 texture for the hull.

Thanks for the really great work Sir. I didn't even notice any drop in Frame Rate....but I sure did notice the improved paint job on my boat. And the flags are a real moral booster. Great mod. But I suppose everyone knows that..:up: ..it's just that, now, I also know....tks.

I happened to be in almost the same exact situation in my new game. Luckily I came out a little better (I still have my boat and all my crew). Here's a little screen shot from before my kill flag update. I'll be sending in another patrol update with the one CV I was able to send to the bottom. Thanks a ton for this awesome mod.

It is with sad regret that I inform everyone of the loss of the USS Grouper. It will be found in postwar records that 2 IJN fleet carriers were lost in her vicinity and that she was lost from a combined effort from surface escorts and planes (they were pissed that they did not have a place to land anymore :up: ).

Yeah, they do get a bit testy at times ;)

This is a forced upgrade, because the motherboard on our current rig is living on borrowed time. So I only ordered the bare essentials (motherboard, CPU, RAM, graphics card, hard disk...the price you pay when a four-year-old PC needs to be replaced). Placed the order on Friday, I'll hear from the guys tomorrow hopefully about the availability of the CPU I ordered (brand new Wolfdale, the E8200!).
A UPS will certainly be our next target, once we can afford it; brownouts over here are a freaking plague. Don't know about that specific model, but APC is a well-known brand.

Sounds like quite the overhaul in dry dock. Did you add a new power supply (ps) along with the other upgrades? You want to be careful that the old PS can handle all the new goodies. I spent a stretch in Los Angeles and a UPS came most in handy during all those Enron related rolling blackouts.

I got a new PSU before ordering all those parts, because I thought the high-pitched sound came from the old PSU. When I discovered it didn't, my next thought was "crud, this rig needs a total rehaul". It's a fairly cheap 420W PSU, my only concern with it is the 16A output of the +12V rail (for the GPU), but the graphics card I ordered isn't all that power-hungry, so it should make do.
All the parts except the CPU have arrived already, we still don't have an ETA for the CPU (the caveats of newly released hardware), but in the meantime I added another 1 GB stick to the above list, since RAM is dirt cheap. I mean, it's either two pizzas, or 1 more GB. I could live with two less pizzas this month! :rotfl:
Oh, and I also decided than enough is enough with Greek Windoze, so in the new rig I'll install English (definitely less prone to stupid errors than Greek).

OK, so it's not a real sub, but it's been used as a name for a sub in a movie ("Below") and it's even been a GI Joe toy:yep: . Besides that it was requested by Captain Mordon.

Had to do the emblem and patch almost totally from scratch (shark clip-art + stripes + torpedo) but it turned out pretty well. It's available in the Balao section of the submarines at Battleflags.net (http://battleflags.net/).

I don't have the add-on yet, so I can't say with certainty, but I don't believe the sub skins textures were moved or had their names changed. Anyone else having the problem with 1.5?

You might want to double check the folder structure to make sure that the first thing you see inside the skins folder is the "Data" folder.

Are you using this in a single mission or in career? What is the date? What other mods are you using?

If you are using TM, I believe that some of the subs have conning towers from other subs, which could cause the skin not to work. If that is the case, then we'll need to know which conning tower the sub uses so that the texture for the tower can be renamed.

Sounds like it. In looking at the last TM that I downloaded to look through, it appears that he's using the Gato tower during parts of the war and the Tambor in other parts. If this is the case, then you can copy the ...._T01 and _T02 textures in the killflags skin ....\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex folder and rename the copies from TamborTower to GatoTower (ending up with 2 copies of each file, one named for the Tambor and the other for the Gato) and your emblem should appear no matter what part of the war it is. Please note that you would have to do this every time you download an updated killflag skin. Also please note that these two textures (from the original Fooskins) are not identical, but I don't believe that there would be any problems with the appearance of the tower.

Next update to TM, ive thrown ya'all a wee bit of a curve ball, in relation to the Tambor and Gar classes.

In the past,
- the midwar configuration was using the Gato's MS/9 paintjob since i had it using its tower.

- The late war configuration was using the Tambor/Gars Ms/32 paint since i wasnt borrowing towers.

- The Elite/late war configuratio was using the Gato's Ms/32 paint since i was borrowing towers again. (i think, i dont remember what paint i was using here).

Thats all changed.

Ive cloned the Gato's midwar and elite towers so now the Tambor /gar has its own. I then changed the texture name those towers exepct so the texture is unique, so Its not borrowing skins anymore.

Any borrowing of sub skins skins after i update TM, (no ETA) will no longer happen. No skin will effect any other boat except the one its meant for. There is two file changes however.

The midwar Tambor/gar shader skin (the one that starts with an O), has its own name. Its the default name (TamborTower) with an A appended at the end of it. This skin comes from the gato, but now Tambor/Gar has its own unique version of it. So when skinning, use the Gato's midwar (half cut) skins, and save it as the new unique skin name for this tower.

The Elite Tower skin is an entirely new skin, also derived from gato's, but now Tambor/Gar has its own version of this one as well.

Id name filenames more exact, but i dont have any of them in front of me. Just wanted to give a heads up while i remember to do so.

Thanks for the heads up, sir:up: . I believe we'll try to come up with a TM "users guide" to killflags skins. It would drive me, personally, crazy trying to remember who needed the TM changes and who didn't. But, in thinking about it, I don't think there is any reason why I couldn't write a batch program to do the renaming necessary to make the skins work correctly with TM. Gonna have to ruminate on that one for a minute or 1,200 and see what we can do. Definitely appreciate the info:up:

Unfortunately, I ordered parts for a new PC (to be delivered on Tuesday) and, just like my last upgrade 3 years ago, my current system got jealous and is trying to go on strike (random restarts when not in safe mode, guessing it's a driver problem).

So, if you've put in for an update recently and haven't received it yet, it may be a few days before I can get them done. My apologies and hopefully everything will get back to "normal" (whatever that is) sometime next week.

Here's the fun part: turns out it wasn't the motherboard that was making that eerie noise...it was one of the old hard drives! As soon as I plugged it into the new rig, it was "bring the noize!" all over! :rotfl:

You might just have to do that, Beast:arrgh!: They got the stuff from LA to the North side of Atlanta (about 2200 miles) in 3 days and left it sitting there (about 40 miles from my house) for 22 hours and didn't bother to get it sent to the location that does the delivery until late last night, so.......... ROFL, no problem with birds with hats, bluedingo:rotfl: We can always use something new to discuss. I do like the patriotic hat:up:

As for the shadowy bird, it is certainly possible. For myself, I tend to stick to something close to the patch that is on the flag. I usually cut the figure out of the patch and then brush over the portions that look "stitched" (and try to remove some of the pixellation when using a small image) so that it looks more like a paint job.

If you'd like a Searaven with one of those hat wearing birds, I'd be glad to put one together. We'd just have to make sure that the versions are noted in any update reports so we'd know which skin to add flags to.

Yep, it's a pain. Especially when you pull a bone-head like me and destroy all but one game install (guess which one was safe:arrgh!: )

It's been a month since I built my new rig, and I'm not even CLOSE to having reinstalled everything. What's worse, I accidentally deleted the whole Medieval 2: Total War folder from my old drive...months of custom modifications of mods I had downloaded, PLUS all the mods I had downloaded gone in two seconds (I have the bad habit of Shift-deleting!). If there ever was a slim chance of me playing that game again, it's now gone :damn:

Not an option when your old disk(s) are running on fumes with regards to disk space. But now that you mentioned it, I do have some of the WIPs for those mods in the old disk's Desktop folder. And I do have everything I've downloaded on this here computer. But setting everything up again from scratch before I even start playing the game...? Ugh!

Thanks for the cover, Beast, I feel like I fell off the face of the earth for a couple days. Just got my updated rig running like I want it to and my wife decided she'd like a slight upgrade and the Dell upstairs that my son and daughter in law use was flaking out, soooooo.......... Put my old rig back together with drives from my son and his wifes old Dell to give them an upgrade, fought with wireless connection for a day (and evidently killed my wireless access point), got the parts in for my wife's new one and absolutely nothing has gone right with it yet (until today when we finally got everything working right-so far). So, now 3 builds in a week or so, 3 clean installs (with hundreds of updates each) and haven't even started getting wifey's software reinstalled. Jack Daniels, here I come:arrgh!:

Great work, as always.
I thought the history of the boat's crew was pretty unfortunate as well. I try to keep my boats historically accurate with flotillas and dates in the game, and you end up learning quite a bit about the history of these fleet boats by doing that.
She was pretty successful hunter historically, but a tragic end.

I was going to put this question to DT earlier. I am playing the new Trigger and have noticed an issue when applying a skin. When submerging the watch do not disappear but stay on the bridge. I know Trigger mods various aspects of the sub, I was wondering if something like this can be fixed.

That problem of the watch staying on the bridge is related, I believe, to the CO2 bug in 1.5. I don't have it yet, but I've seen others post relating to the same problem. It doesn't happen in 1.4, so I'm guessing it's a "new bug".

If you're going to be that regular of a customer, I suppose we should offer you the "volume discount":D As for the U-Boats, I don't forsee us getting into the U-Boat Killflag business. Unless I'm wrong, there doesn't appear to be a big demand for them. Besides, since I don't have the add-on, I wouldn't be able to test the graphics.

I forgot to mention earlier the way that the updates work these days. After your update is done, you will receive a PM from us telling you that your update is done. If it's your first time as a Killflags "customer" or if we had to "build" a new boat for you, there will be a post in this thread with the flags and sub skin and a link to the post in the PM. Ok I think I have a problem. I first downloaded and enabled the USS Drum skin (not the one you sent me, the one from the first page). I had a nice white and blue color pattern. Once I enabled the flags however, it went to a weird brown color, the way it is in the stock game. Isn't it supposed to have the Drum skin? Am I doing something wrong?

In what order should I enable all the skins?

PS I just sent in a new report with some revisions to make it less confusing for you...

It uses a black color scheme for early war and the gray scheme for late war. I don't know where you might have gotten a blue and white one unless your colors are a little off. What date is it in your campaign?

Its because I realized I had played about three patrols in a Sargo class, but counted all three of them as Drums when I did the first report. Between the two reports I played another three patrols or so, I just remembered to change the ship totals and tonnage this time :oops: So yes, the second set is the correct set.

Which skin you use is up to you. If you want to use the weathered one, just make sure you specify that in your update request. Actually, the black skin is the early war and the weathered gray is the late war. The combo skin automatically changes from black to gray depending on the date of the patrol.

The main thing is to let us know which skin you are using so we know what skin to put the killflags on. If you don't specify which skin, 99.999999999999999999999% of the time, I will chose the combo because it relfects the actual color schemes used at different times during the war. This is especially important when there are several skins available for a particular boat.

No problem on the updated figures. Just let me know which skin you want to use and I'll put the flags on the one of your choice.

The Grouper just returned from patrol and was re-fitted with a conning tower upgrade.
The Before shot shows the kill flags/boat emblem properly centered on the tower.

Scott, regarding that skin problem, I've found the cause and have a solution. The cause is within TM and the solution involves editing one of the TM files with S3D. The .dat file for the Gato conning tower number 3 in TM is calling for the early war texture instead of the late war texture. There are 4 conning tower models for the Gato. The first two use the early war texture and the last two use the late war texture. Because of the differences in shape of the towers, the emblems are placed in different places on the two textures. Because of this, when the early war texture was used on one of the late war towers, it caused the emblem to be incorrectly positioned. I recreated the problem with the .dat file from TM after I determined that the files that I use (from PE3) don't have any similar issues.

The fix for the problem consists of the following:

1) Disable TM with JSGME

2) Open the ...\Data\Objects\Conning_Gato_03.dat file in the TM mod folder with S3D.

3) Click on node 5 (see screenshot)

4) In the Texture box (on the right side of the window) change the 1 in the texture name to a 2.

5) Save the file.

6) Reactivate TM with JSGME.

There may be other subs, as well, that will have similar problems when a killflags skin is used in conjunction with TM. If anyone else is experiencing similar problems, please let me know and I'll see what can be done to eliminate the problems.

Glad you like it Eagle45. The skin you have is the combo which should be black during the early part of the war and weathered in the later part of the war. If you want the boat to be grey weathered throughout the whole war, then please let me know that on your update submission. Not all boats have more than one version, but the Drum has several. Unless you let us know which you are using, normally, we'll use the combo.

If you have the grey skin on the boat now, then I'm assuming that you're asking if it can be more weathered. The skin that we used as the basis for the late war look is the Heavy Weathered Fooskin. so as far I know, there isn't a high res skin that's any more weathered.

Finally liberated my rig from the moving truck and had a chance to go in and check out your work on PICUDA. Boat looks beautiful. This is the first one I have run with the MS-32 paint scheme, and I noticed the hull numbers on the bow, which look great.
Here is a question I haven't had the chance to figure out yet. If the conning tower upgrades, does the artwork transfer or does it have to be redone?

@ Bosn Glad to hear the liberation of your rig went well:up:As far as the conning tower updates, the answer is, well, it kinda depends :rotfl:. We built the skins so that a tower change shouldn't cause any problems, but some mods use different conning towers or different textures than the stock game does. If, when you get a new tower, the graphics don't show up, just let us know (along with any mods you run) and we'll get it straightened out.

I think I may have jinxed myself asking about this a few posts ago...
Having an issue with the artwork transferring on ALBACORE (Gato). Everything is fine on the "beginner" tower, but it doesn't seem to transfer over to the next tower in '43.
Ran a test with some single missions, and the artwork is there from Dec '41-summer '43, then disappears until early '44, where it comes back through all of '45.
I am running the latest versions of TMO and RSRDC, and I know Ducimus did some modifcations from stock on when the tower upgrades come available. I imagine that something didn't line up quite right in the works.
It isn't all that big a priority to repair, I can certainly live without the artwork for 6 months of game time. If you happen to find yourself with a bit of downtime to check on this, it would be much appreciated.

Tried that fix, everything saved properly, but still no tower artwork during the fall of '43.
Unfortunately, I am not too in tune with how the textures work. Might it be one of the other Conning_Gato_XX.dat files that needs to be adjusted?

No problem, Bosn. If the previous fix isn't working, then we need to come up with something new.
I can't see any reason why the earlier fix wouldn't have taken care of the problem. Just to double check to make sure we're on the same page, open up that conning tower file in the game folder (instead of the mod folder) with S3D and make sure that the texture specified is the T02, please.

Scratch that last post. Problem solved. I ran S3ditor with TMO and the skin ENABLED and the problem seems to have gone away. Edit was on the game file and not the mod, as you mentioned.
If I encounter this issue with any of my other hulls, should it be a similar fix? And will it always read T02 at the end?

Glad you got it sorted, Bosn. I can't definitively answer the last question because I'm not totally aware of all the changes that TM (or any other mod) might make to the towers. I seem to remember, a ways back, that one of the towers was skinned with the texture from a different sub. I don't know if that's still the case or not, but whenever you run into a problem with a conning tower and a killflag skin, you can look up which tower is being used in the appropriate file in the mods Data\UPCData\UPCUnitsData (look at the beginning of each UnitPart chapter). Then, once you've identified the tower being used, you can open up the .dat file for that tower and see which texture it's using. Which tower uses which textures is based on different things for different subs (like the number of different towers used on the sub, etc), but if your emblem doesn't show up and a late war tower points to an early war texture, that's probably going to be the problem. If one sub's tower points to another sub's texture, that will also cause the problem.

Welcome to subsim, zzaj19855 (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/member.php?u=240639) :up: The easiest way to learn how to make this mod is to look at one of the submarine skins that's been done already. Go to battleflags.net and download any of the boats in the submarine section. Then look at the textures in the ....\Data\Textures\TNormal\tex folder (the ones that end in T01 and T02). You will see what the conning tower skin looks like with the emblems on it. If you want to see how the killflags are done, go to battleflags.net in the killflags section and download the files in any one of the skippers folders (especially the zip files ending in _PSD). After extracting the PSD files, open them with Photoshop (or Paint.net) and you will see how the flags are added.

If you really want to make these flags and skins, we can give you the templates that we use for the flags. You'll need a good graphics editing program (We use Photoshop and Fireworks), though.

Hope that helps and feel free to ask any other questions you might have:sunny:

You don't have to wait to file that first patrol report. You could file a patrol report with no info (other than name and what sub you are using) and we'd make you flags. You can download the sub skin now, so that the emblem will be on your sub while you're on patrol. Sorry if I didn't communicate that very well:oops:

@Barkhorn1x : If the hull number is showing, then the mod's definitely installed correctly. I'm going to hazard a guess that you're using the 1.5 version of TMO and point you at this earlier post in the thread regarding the fix for the problem.

Am indeed runing TMO 1.5.

Followed the instructions in that link to the letter - backed out ALL mods - BUT - the .TGA file was already T02.TGA ! :oops:

Is there another remedy?

And you were editing the file in the mod folder, correct? The path to it would be blahblahblah\Mods\REL_TriggerMaru_Overhaul_152\Dat a\Objects\Conning_Gato_03.dat where blahblahblah would be replaced with the install folder of your game. I just double checked that I had the latest version of TMO downloaded and rechecked the file, and it pointed to the T01 file.

My rule of thumb is that small merchants are sampans and fishing boats. Anything any bigger is a merchant to me. That may not be historically correct, but it's my theory and I'm stickin' to it:yep:

Tried to reply from the pvt msg box, but kept getting an error msg about addressee not recognized.
Total tonnage above is correct for the 3 patrols, but I think flags are missing the input, submitted to CINCPAC 16 or 17August, from patrol #2 which were 1 CL damaged, 4 Maru sunk and 1 damaged and six small guys sunk.

Last night, I got promoted out of PLUNGER into DRUM and filed a request to CINCPAC for her as a new boat. But there seem to be a lot of DRUMs, so I changed the name to SILVERSIDES (SS-236) which was an illustrious boat and seems not to be so common in SH4. I just filed the new boat request on her; sorry for the inconvenience.

Not a problem, boss. You still need battleflags and siggy flags:yep: Usually, when I get a request for a new boat and it's one that's already been made, I just make up the flags and, when I make a post giving you the flags, I include a link to the sub skin in case you didn't find it in the sub section. The list in the first post is kinda out of date, but as fast as we were turning out subs for a while, it was hard to keep up. And as many as there are now, the list would be a mile long, too.
