I need help of GWX 2.0 Time :oops:
Who would explain itself ready to help me.
Of these covers Low .Mod of the variation VIIc41 this week finishes.
To continue the work tiling with the High Mod I need your support.
Maybe one would be able to do the
Mod with VERSION GWX 2.1 Update Build Underway of Kpt. Lehmann unite.
Of course with permit from Kpt. Lehmann
The mission is,
I have this oar demands forwards sedately and the screw wave one would have to make a little broader,
there one would have to shift the snorkel position in 2Ahsen (correct) .den snorkel A little longer do and put on my snorkels. Maybe one can also use that of GWX, however, mann would have to fix him on the new hull.
Is there somebody in the Hexaeditor can do???
He would thereby decrease from me a lot work.

Die Mission ist, ich habe das fordere Ruder nach vorne gesetzt und die Propellerwelle müsste man etwas breiter machen, hinzu müsste man die Schnorchelposition in 2Ahsen verstellen ( korrigieren ).den Schnorchel etwas Länger machen und meine Schnorchel aufsetzen. Vielleicht kann man auch den von GWX benützen aber mann müsste ihn fixieren auf die neue Hülle.
Gibt es jemanden der das im Hexaeditor machen kann???
Er würde mir dadurch viel arbeit abnehmen.

To grief it is not so far!!
I still have some if the attached bargains must become, my biggest problem Were itself of the SKIN with 3D Max fixeren does not leave.

Ich habe noch einige dinge die Fixiert werden Müssen,
mein größtes Problem Ist das sich der SKIN nicht mit 3D-Max fixeren lässt.
Das funktionierte früher ohne Probleme mit MAX-3D.
Dann müssen die Achsen von den Propeller etwas angehoben Werden.
Dazu kommt das das Fordere Ruder etwas nach vorne Muss.
Und zum Schluss muss der Schnorchel in die Korrekte Position gebracht werden.

Am Schluss machen. Aber das alles ist Hexa-Work deshalb ist es egal was ich zu erst mache.
Außer ich bekomme Unterstützung.

Come on! Surely someone out there in Subsim land knows enough about hex code to help Tomi add the features he wants, such as the water draining from the vent holes when the u-boat surfaces!:stare:
I suppose you might have to go without some of those features, Tomi, if nobody steps forward to help. :cry:
I've been meaning to learn assembly programming, but I doubt you can afford to wait for however many months it would take for me to get the neccessary skills to make the schnorchle and other effects possible.

Addendum:
Perhaps the water draining effect can be achieved in a way similar to how Racerboy added exhaust smoke effects. Take an existing "drain" animation node from another part of the u-boat, clone this and attach it to the vent holes. It may be possible to do the editing needed in the u-boat '.val' file with Silent 3ditor. The .tga textures for the draining water could then also be compiled inside the .val and assigned the proper Direct3D particle parameters.

Very complex effects can be achieved by combining even simple elements properly.
If you set the particle density, life, trail, and quads correctly it would have an approximation to water that's close enough. To make it look even more like water, you could create some textures that are almost clear like glass while others would be the typical "foam" generated by the turbulence of the water rushing out.
(I'd better shut up or else I'm going to find myself in the middle of learning how to do all this after being elected to work on it. :p)

I've also PM'ed RB but he seems to be missing. The is DD but he's busy with GWX 2.1 I believe. I don't know who else is a master of Hex editing, maybe someone can convince Serbuto to help?

Thank you very much! I have download the VIIC_Play3.rar and JSGME it in the SH3. My SH3 is GWX2.0. I can run this new VIIC in single mission. What do you mean don't work for GWX 2.0? My i have more detail?:roll:Tomi built these mods before GWX 2.0 was released. The current mods made by tomi don't work with GWX 2.0. He's working on it. Its going to take some time. Many of the GWX 2.0 DAT files are different from GWX 1.3. Ask the GWX crew for the details of changes. Anyhow If you install tomi's mods in GWX 2.0 your breaking the game. You will experiance issues.
If you want to experiance tomi's great work you will have to have a second installed version of SH3 stock or GWX 1.3, your pick.
It might be too much work for you to do this if your not familiar with the process.

Thank you very much! I have download the VIIC_Play3.rar and JSGME it in the SH3. My SH3 is GWX2.0. I can run this new VIIC in single mission. What do you mean don't work for GWX 2.0? My i have more detail?:roll:Tomi built these mods before GWX 2.0 was released. The current mods made by tomi don't work with GWX 2.0. He's working on it. Its going to take some time. Many of the GWX 2.0 DAT files are different from GWX 1.3. Ask the GWX crew for the details of changes. Anyhow If you install tomi's mods in GWX 2.0 your breaking the game. You will experiance issues.
If you want to experiance tomi's great work you will have to have a second installed version of SH3 stock or GWX 1.3, your pick.
It might be too much work for you to do this if your not familiar with the process.

dein Skin an dem du so schwer kaust, was genau ist das Problem?
dass die Deckfarben nicht auftauchen? Dass die lange schweissnaht an der Flanke des Boots, auf dem skin nicht zu dem 3D modell Passt? Weil aufm Skin die Schweissnaht Geradeaus geht und in 3D das teil am Heck sanft abfàllt?

It's not the controllers that don't work that determine the effect.
It's how the controllers that do work.
By compareing the SH4 effect to a standard SH3 Particals Generator,
We can adjust the settings to give the same effect.

Nein das größte Problem is das ich wahrscheinlich zu viele Polygone habe.
Und wenn ich mit den Polygon Crouncer arbeite reduziert er die Polis herunter.
Das ist alle o.k – JETZT KOMMTS – Wenn ich das Boot durch den Pack3D durchdrücke
Geht nur eine gewisse Anzahl an Reduzierten Polis durch. Wenn aber die Anzahl der gefilterten Polis zu klein ist (Abhängig von der Poligongröße des Mods ) und Sie durchgeht, ist die Qualität des Models Schlecht und die SKINS sind nicht dabei weil Sie vorher reduziert worden Sind.
Jetzt ist des wichtig das Boot so weit abzurüsten an Polis das man es so gerade durchdrückt durch Pack3D ,so das es an der Qualität nicht verliert und der Skin dabei ist .

I'm not entirely sure of my own technical understanding about the idea I proposed for creating the effect, but your confirmation now has me feeling somewhat more optimistic about pulling this off. :)
I'll give this a try with one of the subs bundled in GWX 2.0 and see what results I can produce. Hopefully, success will come and it can then be applied to Tomi_099's models.
I'll start a new thread, if it comes to that, as I don't want to hijack Tomi's thread for his fantastic model work.
I do indeed hope you find the time to document what you've learned in modding SH3, privateer. Knowledge is the most precious resource for any modding/dev community. I, for one, would be a most eager reader! :know:

Verdammt, Junge, hab ich mir des net schon "gedenkt"...!
Es kam mir schon viel frueher in den sinn, als ich dir hier so über die Schulter beim arbeiten zusah, das alles könnten ZU viele details sein, ZU sauber gearbeitet, ZU tief gedacht und ZU präzise gemodelt.
Eine möglichkeit wäre natürlich, mit dem macher von Pack3D zusammenzuarbeiten, versuchen ihn ins boot zu ziehen.
Die konsequenz nach erfolg wäre/könnte sein dein geiles Boot im Spiel, bei 1x Time compression, 5 Frames pro sekunde.
Eine zweite möglichkeit wäre das klassische abspecken dort wo "viele" Polygone nicht sichtbar sind respektive unnütz. Dies Manuell zu machen kostet Arbeitszeit, und hede menge Frust weil dein (UND UNSER!!!) Traum platzt.
Eine Dritte Variante Wäre, ein älteres Modell zu nehmen, eines wo du nicht so viele details dran Hast, und von dieser Station noch mal weiter zu Arbeiten.
Eine wichtige Antwort Brauchst du allerdings in jedem Falle:

Jemand der auch in 3D arbeitet und dich zum Thema ABSPECKEN Beraten Könnte?
würdest du so etwas oder etwas ähnliches in betracht ziehen/akzeptieren können?
Es gibt jede menge Leute die Flugzeuge und Schiffe Bauen und, obwohl sie scheibar keine Grenzen Haben, doch Polygonweise ein Limit Haben was die FPS angeht.
Jene Leute wären eventuell in der lage Bereiche aufzuzeigen wo anstatt 500 nur 80 oder 100 Poolys nötig sind.
(Ich denke da an diese... Schweissnähte am Rumpf... oder diesen Supersauberen Schnorchel... Oder überhaupt alles wegschnippeln was nicht sichtbar sein wirddas Rohr im innern des Rumpfes durch eine simple trennwand ersetzen...)
Gut, das ist zwar keine technische Hilfe, aber halt mein Rat.

Es gebe da noch eine Methode die ich in betracht ziehen werde, also man gehe davon aus das ich ja sowieso bei den Low Mod bin ,das bedeutet das die Problematik noch um eine kleinen Tatsch ansteigen wird.
Nun wie gesagt gäbe es das Mod in 2Teile aufzusplitten.
Der eine Teil basiert auf die Hülle und der andere auf das inneleben.
Ich werde versuchen nur die Hülle in normal zustand zu importieren.
Die Qualität wird wie auf den Bildern sein.
Dann werde ich den zweiten Teil die Innenhülle und das Deck ( Hay Mod und da gehe ich auf das ganze) in den bereich zu importieren wo sich die Rehling der VIIc befinden also dort wo ich meine Gitter der Reling eingebaut habe - zu importieren ( Turmbereich ).
Das heißt der richtige Turm mit der richtigen Hülle entsprechen den Hay Mod.
Lassen wir uns überraschen!!!:hmm:
NACHTRAG:
Es gebe da noch eine Alternative nämlich den DECK Skin auf den HÜLLEN Skin zu mounten ,
( also ein Skin für alle zwei Deck+Hülle)
eventuell denn Hüllen Skin größer zu machen wegen platz mangels weis aber nicht ob Pack3D das akzeptiert.

Reduziert habe ich das von 10000 auf ca 6500 (obj )
ohne qualitäts verlust .
durch Pack3D bekomme ich Maximum 2600 durch ( Ohne DeckSkin) :oops:
wie auf meinen Unterwasserbildern zu sehen ist( momentanzustand).

Der TURM, der RUMPF und der SCHNORCHEL, welche teile gibts noch?
Du sagst die Reling hat zu viele Polys? Häng die Reling an den Turm, dann hast du sie vom Rumpf weg. Und Dann noch diese Holzbohlen des Decks, vom Rumpf weg und an den Turm hängen... was noch?
Die Kabel/antennen! Weg vom Rumpf, an den Turm dran!

Am ende hast du nur den Rumpf mit Torpedopforten, rudern und diesen verdamt vielen löchern. das "müsste" doch durch Pack3D passen?
der Turm mit den Decksbohlen und innenleben, betankungsanschlüssen und Kabel... auch nicht zu viele...
Schnorchel... weiss ich nicht wie das geht,,, separat, an den Rumpf oder an den Turm dran? von wo wird der schnorchel im Spiel gesteuert? Animiert?

Ich bin ein wenig gefrustet es läuft nicht so wie ich es will.
Was noch zu machen ist das, das das Wasser aus dem löchert kommt.
Aber fiel Schlimmer ist das mit den Achsen verdrehen.
Es raubt einen die Zeit.
Das Problem ist ich habe 4 Komponenten.
Und ich bin gerade dabei das in GWX2.0 zu importieren.
Und habe meine Probleme die Achsen Richtig zu stellen.
Gibt es eine einfachere Methode die Achsen richtig anzupassen oder ist es ein Ratespiel.

If there is an easier method the axes properly to adapt or it is a guessing game.

Tomi why not look at it from a different prospective. Release a current version with that will work with GWX 2.0 with in the limits of the game. Worry about the holes spaying water after. Later while your working on it add patches to improve your original release. Also maybe you might get help from others if they can see what your doing. There are alot of tallented modders here. Some of them could add various way of helping your if they can have access to your work. Or you could start up a beta testing team for your Remodeled VIIC/41 GWX 2.0.
Some times its better to take a break and comeback in a few days with new eyes and a clear mind. :up:

I had some trouble with the GWX XXI sub importing tga which would cause flak turrets to be reversed. This program seams to work very well. It does more than just TGA files take a look.:yep:

I realize the extremely detailed modeling work you've done is an immense job that very few others here have the talent or patience to accomplish and many do not realize the difficulty in getting this u-boat completed as far as you have done already.
I hope we, as a community, will do your work justice by making this VIIC/41 model the finished work of art that it truly has become and help to solve the problems you have encountered.
Don't worry about the few who have been critical of the long time it has taken. They either do not understand or just do not wish to wait any longer for the "toy" they want, like spoiled children. Shame on them!:nope:
I suppose they have already forgotten about the other models you made and released for GWX 1.3. :roll:
Just as the GWX team uses the motto of "It's finished when it's finished!", we all should have the courtesy to be patient for other modders.
This is especially true when you have an individual modder, like yourself, doing such a large project as this and still having time for life outside the computer.
At least you had the consideration to post updates to let everyone know how much progress you were making and I know that it was your wish to release it only when it was fully complete and working.
After all, an incomplete or broken toy isn't very much fun, now is it?
I've downloaded all the files and I'm eager to study them and see what I might contribute. :yep:

Aber nicht ein GWX Mann hat sich zu diesen Thema gemeldet.
Es schein so als ob das hier absolut uninteressant für GWX 2.1 ist .
Dafür habe ich mir so viel mühe gegeben um einen gewissen Anschluss an GWX2.1 zu finden.
Entweder Leben wir in einer eigenen Welt oder die in einer eigenen.
Dabei sind wir Tür an Tür..

To my knowledge, there isn't a single "super mod" that hasn't incorporated the work of others.
There is a reason for that.
As a community, many have worked together to make the Silent Hunter games far better than their original designers intended. It is a labor of love that has been, brick by brick, built upon the foundations of other people's previous work.
Wasn't it a famous scientist who once said, "I have seen so far because I stood upon the shoulders of giants."?
GWX, NYGM, WAC, and other mods are the great works they have become thanks to the giants who came before to create a richer, deeper experience for SH3.
To put it in simpler terms, it only makes sense that FLB Sale's Dials mod would be used so much just because it is such a masterful work that leaves little room to improve upon it.
As for Topp...he's merely another example of a Troll whose only point to be made is one of contention.
Since the Grey Wolves have done such a terrible job, then put your money where your mouth is and make your own super mod that is better, if you can spare the time away from tearing down what others have had the dedication to create, Mr. Topp.
You're not fit to fill the shoes of people like Captain America, onelifecrisis, Beery, iambecomelife, Subguy, Rubini, privateer, FLB Sale U-999, Sansal, Grey Rider, Chock, gouldjg, Jungmans, 13owman, Ailantd, C.P. Roesdahl, Wolfie, Wazoo, Augie64, FAdmiral, The SH3 Mod Team, The Grey Wolves, AoTD, Tomi_099, the immortal JSCones, and countless others who have built, bit-by-bit, a sub sim unequalled by anyone! :rock:

What tomi's needs are a few good hex men. Calling for duty good hex editors. Because he lengthened the VIIC/41 sub from original specs to make it authentic, many obj are out of place. Diving plains, propeller etc. Alot of small things that need to be realigned. Also he adding new stuff too.;)

I saw on one of Tomi's screenshots that he has S3D installed, the repositionning of the propellers rudders etc can be done easily enough with it. Just need to take the coordinates on the model in 3dsmax and copy them in S3D for each object (and some trial and error too) :up:

I saw on one of Tomi's screenshots that he has S3D installed, the repositionning of the propellers rudders etc can be done easily enough with it. Just need to take the coordinates on the model in 3dsmax and copy them in S3D for each object (and some trial and error too) :up:
Sorry, but you are wrong.
Forward planes, rear planes, rudders, and props (amoungst other objects)
MUST be placed in 3D at 0,0,0!
Then moved by editing the position in the dat however you choose.
This is because of how SH3 handles those objects.
They rotate on the 0,0,0
Move the rear planes forwards and they move like the front planes
and vice versa.
Move the rudder forwards and it will turn according to a forwards steering system!
(Copy and save this guys!! It's good info!!)

I did several tests, however, with export it was hull always disappeared.
I never had the problem.
I had increases tries done, and different axes exchanged.
If one looks at the pictures of me with 3D Max.

hmmmmm, im modeling programm die "arme" vor den Tauchrudern ein kleines bisselchen weiter nach aussen biegen, weil die Tauchruder laut plan ganz in ordnung sind?

wie ihr gemerkt habt ist das eine neue Hülle
der unterschied ist !!
Das hier die langgezogene Reling fehlt.
Und das die Propelernabe von GWX2.0 Übernommen worden ist ,
hier leider nicht sichtbar.
Das heist nicht daß, das Modell was ihr schon habt, AUT ist.
Nein es wird nur das Deck mit Holz belegt.
Die Problematik ist das ab einen Wert in den Pack3D
nichts mehr zu importieren ist.
Das Ergebnis!! , das ein Skin verloren gegangen ist.
Also es gibt 2 Möglichkeiten das zu Managen.
Die eine ist , man arbeitet mit den Hex Editor und biegt das gerade,
( etwas für Spezialisten wie Daving Dack oder Racerboy )
die andere etwas leichtere ( die ich gewählt habe ),man benützt zwei
Skins, im einen.
Und ich muss sagen das ergeniss ist nicht schlecht!!!
Ja Rost !!! Viele Kollegen mögen Rost , ich auch!! , deshalb habe ich bei diesen Mod
besonders darauf geachtet das man den Rost schön Publizieren kann.
(Auf diesen hastig erstellten Bildern noch nicht zu sehen. )
Auch wurde bemängelt das es in der Innen-Kammer zu hell ist,
das habe ich versucht zu ändern, indem ich der Innen Kammer einen eigenen UVW
zugewiesen habe.
Das heißt das jetzt die Innen Kammer nicht den gleichen Skinplatz wie die
Aussenhat hat.
Also ist es möglich die Innen Kammer, dunkler zu gestalten und eventuell rostiger
So wurde die Innen-Hülle unabhängig von der Außen-Hülle gemacht,
Sie kann nach belieben Rost und Farbe bekommen ohne die Außenhaut zu stören.
Leider wurde die Wunderschöne Innen Hülle nicht eingebaut.
Und fraglich ist es ob es überhaupt zum Einsatz kommen kann,
weil die Polygon zahl ansteigt
, ich aber schon am LIMMIT angekommen bin.
Deshalb eine Bitte und einen Wunsch an den Hersteller des Silent Editor S3R ,
uns in der Hinsicht etwas Spielraum zu lassen, das wir an die grenzen des möglichen gehen können.
Das heist, größere Daten Importieren als wie mit Pack3D.
Und um das abzuschließen haben wir noch eine große Herausforderung.
Wo fieberhaft gearbeitet wird, in der stillen Kammer.
Nämlich die Flutschlitze mit Wasser zu befüllen ( Like SH4 )
Ich denke diesen sahen sind wenigene von uns gewachsen,
Aber ich setze hier auf zwei laute die dieser Sache mächtig sind.

As if it is possibly the Inside chamber to form dark and, perhaps, rusty was done So the inside cover regardless of the outside cover,
you can like after rust and colour get without skin to interfere.
Unfortunately, the wonderful inside bytes Hull was not inserted.
And doubtfully it is whether it can be generally used because the polygon pay rises,
however, I have come already in limits.

Don't know about the limits of Pack3D, but there can only be 64K vertices/uvs (limited by game file format, it uses ushorts for indexes). No way around this. However, whether or not there's a facecount limit in the engine and/or Pack3D I don't know. Hopefully, I can get model import to work soon :roll:

Hi Tomi_099, as said, the dat-file format is limited to 64K = 65.536 vertices per model (well, technically it can hold more vertices, but they are referenced by an index that has this limit of 64K). The polycount limit of the dat-format however is big enough. I think you'll have to split up the model a bit and move things like the railings, and other details into sub objects. So you have to import multiple models (at the very least 2) but technically it's possible to put it all in one dat-file.
Having said that, I don't know if the game has other limitations that may cause problems. Maybe there's someone else with experience with (super) high poly models in SH?

Flickering is usually because 2 or more objects are in the same space
at the same time.
The Engine tries to render them both.

You guys are gonna make (already made actually) something to make silent some SH4-uboat-missions-arcade&casual-guys. Great job at all. I noticed on early alpha, that painted holes do not match actual ones, is it fixed on new skin?) And maybe water flows should be more transparent - in calm seas this looks a little strange.
This surely will be main sweetie of new season releases. Waiting for it.))
I just discovered this thread today and I've read all 36 pages like a novel. Its like a story and I'm getting really exited!

It's not as simple to have this effect for SH3 as in SH4.
SH4 has controllers that SH3 does not.
Cut and paste won't work here!
You can not take from SH4 and expect it to work.
It's like putting a Chevy cam in a Ford.
Lots of custom Hex work is needed.
When I have it where I want it?
You'll see a video posted.
The finished work will NOT work in SH4!
It will be TOTALLY SH3 only.

Something for you to consider Tomi_099;
Any serious finishing of your last Alpha model of VIIC/41 should be updated for a downloadable work for those who are helping you with your work you may also want to make Release Versions aka 0.05 Alpha or 1.05 examples. Each update made or fix then you add a little detail to what you and your friends have done. This way files don't get mixed up and others know what your doing and planning.;)

We has 2 different variations of the boat, one has approx. 80,000 Polys (light version) this is prepared the variation where Privateer just the Watersufix for us. She encloses a little less detail and does not take so many Resorsen.
And one is approx. 130,000 Polys. This variation is in the border area of the possible, and should thereby also have more detail.
This high-resolution variation is treated just by DD.
Herewith I would like to thank for the engagement of DD and Privateer they have done the impossible, possibly.

Tomi, the schnorchel must be made longer to fit the slot in the deck.
