Whats up with Bernard Jokes?

Hey all, I've been playing SH3 with 1.4 p for about 8 months now, And I pop up on this website from time to time to see whats going on, when SH4 will come out, and to read all the great reads that people post. But one Thing I don't get is why everyone makes fun of Bernard? Are you guys talking about a helmasman that costs 4oo renown?

Or is it some kind of insdie joke that I havnt heard yet? I was just really curious because I see maany topics where he is mentioned.

Oh yeah, and the best part of SH4 for me will be ACTUALLY WINNING the war. That way you don't feel like all your effort was for nothing
