Default Why is the XXI good?

Im sure im missing something but I think this boat is rubbish even compared to the XIB I used for most of the war. I seem to have traded surface speed, deck gun, decent AA guns, rear torpedos and 30000 renown for 2 knots more underwater speed and internal torpedos. How do I use this sub effectively?

In the later years, uboots had to spent more time under the surface because of the allied radar. XXI was better in the submerged conditions than IX, VII or II.

Also, XXI has speed of light reloading.

Yes, didn´t they use automatic reload system on XXI? Something more "mechanic" than manpower.

What year does the XXI become available? The manual doesn't list it. I'd assumed it was just there for single missions.

With snorkel and engine upgrades you can get 15 out of it (i think)

Hint : Snorkel and high speeds don't go together well.

Actually it can go faster submerged than surfaced. At first it seems strange but then it makes sense if you think about it. It was designed to operate UNDER water so shouldn't it be faster in its element?

Sadly, this isnt modled in SH3. You can, theoritically, go at flank w/ snorkel deployed until your fuel is gone.

But also apparently the Snorkel is incredibly more visible than it should be to aircraft overhead. So the inconsistencies go both ways.

The XXI's were the first True Submarines. Hell im commanding a VIIC at the moment and they're good boats, but give me a XXI anyday.

Dont use a XXI online though unless others do, otherwise its too easy.
