Default TMA - Just a thought...

I usually have auto TMA turned on and I've noticed that I get a solution on the NAV even when I only mark active intercept bearings...

The question is: is that possible?...

Of course its possible, you can create such a solution yourself at the TMA station if you want.

The real question is, Is the accuracy of the solution realistic considering the data provided? And the answer, as is always the case with DW aTMA is HELL NO.

Auto TMA in DW doesnt use the actual data in the TMA station, it cheats. if you launch a UUV and then change direction and wait a little till the contact that the UUV made on nav map for your own sub has 2 baring lines in TMA you will see what i mean. I have seen in TMA it having one baring line heading say 220deg and the next 40deg. With these 2 baring lines the auto TMA gets the solution perfect in nav map which is imposable if it was using the 2 baring lines in TMA station for the solution. I guessing it was easier to code the game to cheat than to make it actally use the data in TMA to make the solution like we do. But because of this we have a auto TMA that shows truth.

This was what I was talking about: how can the TMA operator get a range, speed and course by active intercepts on the same bearing?... :hmm:

Probably, since it's not possible to reproduce human behaviour on TMA, SCS has introduced an "approximation coefficient" to be applied to the actual position of contacts so that the result on the NAV may "feel" like real behaviour. If this is the case, SCS should limit the application of this so-called "approximation coefficient" only when the combination of multiple data may lead to a TMA solution (eg. bearing+speed, visual contact+speed, etc...but not only active intercept...)

Auto TMA

Learn Manual TMA. Then you dont have to worry about it.

Sorry im saying it again i hate Otto i wish sonalysts would have left him stateside. Except for on the FFG which i hear is pretty difficult. Ill give the skimmers a break when it comes to Otto.

But if you a Bubblehead using Otto Shame on you J/K but there is a lot of good reference materials on Target Motion Analysis available freely so id suggest starting by looking for it.

darksythe thinks:
I might have to sponsor a TMA Training course......

I used to make TMA myself but then, after starting playing online, I decided to turn TMA on and focus on sonar. To tell you the truth, even WITHOUT manual TMA, I'm very busy with the rest of the stations...
