The Mooring Crew
This is a nice touch I haven't seen before: "Mooring Crew"
Just put crewmen into the "Mooring Crew" slots and they show up on the deck. Put them back into the ship slots and they go back below deck. It's overcast weather in my game, but you should be able to see what I mean:

Crew on deck
If you fill the slots for the "mooring crew" AND activate "All crew to battle stations," you get a whole bunch of sailors on deck at once. It's pretty neat when you're exiting and entering harbors.
