Default Is it really true SH5 crashes more in Campaign then SH3?

I read awhile back that its very common for SH5 (i am assuming no mods) to crash while playing the campaign compared to SH3 (no mods), in other words is the Stock SH3 campaign more stable then the Stock SH5 campaign? I would like to know if this is really true from people that have played campaigns on both games SH3 and SH5. Thanks for any info!

I've encountered no CTDs since installing TWoS.

I don't recall ever having any CTDs in a SH3, 4 or 5 campaign.

That said, most CTDs IMHO are caused by conflicting mods and/or corrupted saves.

It's been so long since I've played SH3 or 5 unmodded, but IIRC SH3 was more stable. Nowadays, playing with both (modded), I'd say SH5 crashes more often, but TWoS is pretty darn stable, especially if you read the tips about maintaining stability.

Thanks for the replys, so it almost sounds if a MOD for SH5 makes the game more stable, interesting, where there any mods that fixed any stability problems with SH3? Thanks Again!

Hi guys
I have been playing The Wolves Of Steel since July 2015.
To date I have counted 124 manual game saves from my log book and never had a ctd.
Go about it the right way and SH5 is very stable.

I still prefer SH3 over SH5 for numerous reasons. Reliability is one of them.

I'm finding GWX SH3 is incredibly stable. Since I started following the simple saving rules
1. no saves within 55KM of land
2. no saves while in contact (map contacts are OK)
3. no saves within 55km of port.
4. no saves within 12km of sinking ships.

I know this has been covered endlessly to a level way beyond superstition. I think there are many mod combos with their own problems but I think these rules cover most CTDs caused by the raw game engine. I think the root case for all fails addressed for above are caused by ships colliding with land, ships or other installations after they lost the waypoints they were spawned with but lost in the save. All this has been very hard to prove, there was one post (cant remember where) from someone recording a DD colliding with the same blockship from multiple replays of the same save. He said he eventually found it on the external cam and played it over watching the collision and CTD happen simultaneously repeatably.

An experiance I had was similar but I couldnt see the event. The game always "seemed" to crash around but not exactly the same time while I was stalking near a harbor. Eventually I did something decisive (and silly) to give away my position and no matter how I gave away my position the game did not crash. Im thinking all the patrols ran after me, therefore preventing whatever collision they would do to make the CTD
