And there it dies, along so many other series.
RIP Total War, I am sorry that you feel the need to satisfy the fantasy nerds in the future, instead of your core fans.

Nah, Warhammer actually makes logical sense in the TW framework.

Where Total War actually died and was buried and will forever be shamed was when they decided to do Total War Arena

I didn't even hear of that crap, I will just ignore it.
Warhammer though...

I don't know. Total War was always about history, always, since 2000 when Shogun was released. Now they go in the future - bad enough... but Warhammer? Yuck.
It has a huge fanbase, I am totally aware of that. But I find it sad to see when good 'ol things change to the worse or better said, lose their way.

Never change a running system.

And it's not that history has not more to offer than we have seen yet.
The dark age would be interesting, the "vikings" could be a great theme in combination with the early medieval again.

But yeah, let's go there:

That picture is Warhammer 40K, they are doing a game based on the fantasy side of Warhammer, i.e. this:

Suits Total War perfectly.

It's not like Total War is dropping the concept of historical games and turning into a Warhammer franchise. The Total War series' gameplay is very much appropriate for a Warhammer game (I'd even say that it is even more suited for something like Warhammer than most of the historical eras it tried to represent). If you don't like Warhammer, it would be a very simple matter to skip this one and buy the next game you're interested in. I'm not the world's biggest fan of Warhammer, but I'm far more concerned by how the basic game design of the Total War series has been (in my opinion) deteriorating since Empire than by the existence of a spinoff game.

Deteriorating?
Shogun 2?

It came after Empire and got the series back on tracks, even though its launch was iffy, which is normal these days - unfortunately.
I think Rome II was the one that really changed the series - and not to the better, but that might just be my opinion.

I also never said Warhammer wouldn't be good RTS material, not at all.
It is just the last thing I would connect to Total War.

I'd rather see a Medieval 3 or some different historical approach and hope that Warhammer is just some experiment.

We'll see.

Have you ever been on the Total War Central forums? Some of the biggest and most popular threads there are about mods like the one that changes Medieval II: Total War into a Lord of the Rings Total War game.

So?
I don't see how that is related to my point that I think TW should stay historical?

I really really enjoyed playing TW: Rome.

Never got around to finishing it though. By the time I got to it, school started.

Not familiar with Warhammer...but I might be okay if they ever did a TW: Battletech.

Or maybe we'll see a MechCommander 3.

I wonder if they could do anything with Aliens in TW?

Nice, something different from CA, though I prefer the 40k setting, but Warhammer fantasy could be interesting. Maybe doing something new will break CAs thing for making crap strategy games lately. Probably wont fix them from making if buggy as hell on release though.

To be fair these days CA cant get their historical accuracy "Historical" They just go for Hollywood "Historical accuracy".
