So on my last career I survived long enough to get sonar, and I tried it out. I dialed the hydrophone until I had a target, and then I pinged it.
It returned a range. But every time you click it, you get a wildly different, smaller value. Much smaller than can be accounted for by closing speeds. I can click a dozen times in a few seconds and cut the range in half. What gives? Steve |

Never having used 'active sonar', besides a BUG, could it be an accurate portrayal of the inaccuracies of the equipment at the time.
Considering that different frequencies travel at different speeds through any medium (an energy impulse consists of many frequencies), and I'm not sure whether this was known at the time. Just a thought ? What Mods are you using - usual question ![]() |

It looks like if you give commands through the sound man interface you can ask for precise or estimated ranges.
If you click the actual Sende button on the device, are you getting precise or estimated ranges? Steve |

It's also a complete fiction that I can shoot destroyers down the throat at will.
What I'm interested in knowing is how the game sonar actually operates. Steve |
