Default SH5 Gold Edition - Crew Dialog Box Issues

Hi Guys,

I'm using SH5 Gold Edition, patched to 1.2 and Win7 64bit. I have TDWs Generic Patcher installed and am using Sjizzles.gps file

The issue I'm experiencing is that when using either TDWs NewUI or Magui UI, I don't see the crew dialog boxes, making accurate targeting impossible.

Initially I suspected it may have been incompatibility with the NewUI mod, but it's the same with Magui for some reason.

Without using either of these two mods, the crew dialog boxes appear and work as they should - but obviously without one of these mods you lose so much of the game ability to interact with the crew effectively.

I can install and use all mods (eg I've tried and used all Fifi's "approved" mod lists, the basic, intermediate and full listings) and graphically / performance wise they run fine and with no CTDs - the exception being the lack of crew dialog boxes obviously.

I've un/reinstalled from scratch several times.

Any help / advice really appreciated as consequently I'm stuck at the moment.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is it because it's the Gold Edition?

Many thanks in advance.

Did you check for multiple folders?
Some modders put multiple folders in their compressed file. You must uncompress the mod file structure FIRST and then check the folder levels.
Game\MODS\modname\data
NOT like this:
Game\MODS\modname\foldername\data

Hmm ... to be honest I didn't. I just extracted everything to C:\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\MODS and assumed that would be it

Will reinstall all Mods and confirm they're correct - thanks Mikemike47, I appreciate the advice.

I've checked the mods folder structure and the are all as they should be. eg SH5\MODS\modname\data

But even when ONLY using NewUIs v7.50 or Magui (as the only active mod in JSGME) I 'lose' the crew dialogs. Without them crew dialogs appear as they should.

Can anyone help please?

Welcome by the way, GhostStorm.

Disable all mods. Click on signature link below and see if anything there helps.

Or something is wrong with how you have enabled NewUIs v7.50 or Magui STILL or their downloads originally are corrupt perhaps.
Mike

Thanks for this Mike ...
I've tried literally disabling every mod except NewUIs and still everything works except the crew dialogues so it's not a conflicting mod issue.
As per your link, I've checked and triple checked the folder structures and they are as you suggest.
I'm getting no error messages at all.
I've even tried lowering all graphic levels to absolute minimum - even though the game will happily run on higher settings.
I just can't get the crew dialogues to appear with NewUIs or MagUI - without one or the other they appear as planned!
The potentially corrupt download is my only option left to try.
Frustrated is an understatement after having succesfully 'mastered' Real Nav etc only to find that I can't succesfully attack anything!

crew dialogues - Are you clicking the actual soundman, radioman, bosun, xo, watch officer character? Nothing happens? That is when the dialogue boxes comes up.

Disable all mods and TDW patcher if used. Besides the folder structure issue with mods, did you try any other help listed in post #3 of my signature link?
Then verify stock 1.2 folders and files having dates from May 2010 or older. Look around to see if any files are much newer than May 2010 in your stock game without mods. There should not be any.

I only know NewUI since I haven't used MagUI. Possibly some scripts that are not stock left over in the data\scripts\menu\***folder or subfolders. NewUIs options fileviewer, editor may have to have something changed in ?officers? panel maybe.

Yep ... in the stockgame for example when you 'lock' a target in the periscope, the XO character picture pops up, I click on him and he gives me target info, along with the clickable links to the relevant TDC dialog boxes where I can manually input range etc etc.
With NewUIs (or MagUI) this doesn't happen - even with one of the UIs as the only active mod. The crew character icon (dialog box) just simply never appears.

I'm away from home at the moment on a buisness trip overseas so I can't verify all the #3 info from your link - but will check and double check when I return. Come to think of it - I think I may have left the TDW patcher active, and I used Sjizzles .gps file, so I'll make sure that TDW is disabled on my return. Will definately verify the dates aren't older than June 2010 as well.

Hmm .... would you recommend a complete uninstall / reinstall before doing the steps in the first two paragraphs? Would that "reset" any potential script issues? I have done this before but TDW patcher was always installed and activated by me stratight away if I remember correctly.
.
Thanks again for your time and helpful suggestions Mike - they are appreciated.

I would recommend whatever the lessor of two evils as far as time goes. I'm wondering if a script file is corrupt and is overriding the dialogue boxes completely for every officer somewhere. (Right up my alley, on project I am working on. Still at infancy stage learning dialogue box parameters.)
Disable all mods and patcher. Check post #3 and see if anything shows up wrong. Check out post #6 and #8 of my signature thread, too.

Then look around for all files newer than May 2010. I would look in the menu, submarine and scripts\menu folders and subfolders first if it was me.

Then report back at what you find. If a few files are corrupt, and complete uninstall/reinstall seems like overkill, then I can send you just the correct files, as long as they are not too big as far as file sizes go.

Part of me doesn't feel you have two corrupt downloads for user interfaces yet.

Awesome wildo and many thanks again. I'll report back as soon as I get back home (hopefully by early next week at the latest).

Like you say - it does seem weird that both MagUI and NewUIs are BOTH causing an issue for me - so logically your script theory seems the way forward.
