Default Your favorite sound?

What sound do you long to hear, may give you pleasure or peace or you simply enjoy it. {Keep IT CLEAN PLEASE}

Mine would have to be hearing a steam locomotive in the night, the whistle, the steam, the chug chug. My grandfather was a steam engineer that retired in the 60's, but for another 10 years worked doing scenic rides for different parks. When he worked, the train ran about a mile behind our house. As I kid, I can remember grandpa giving me a special toot was he went by at night.

The train no longer runs through our town, now s8 to Martinsville Va. My wife and I booked a weekend trip to Cass to ride again. Last we did it was an xmas 12 years ago, the high mountains were beautiful.

There are many awesome sounds in this world...but there is one that never fails to give me the chills and the goosebumps.

The sound of a P-51 Mustang going by.

Of course, a Ford Mustang with the right exhaust system fitted sounds great too. And the sound of a good explosion is pretty great.

Automatic Weapons from a distance sound cool. A-10's flying over, radial engine warbirds....

On to more calming things...

Dead silence can be calming. And most definitely the rain. Bugs in the woods at night.

Just can't think of any more.

Of course, music is good.

The sound of the symphony orchestra warming up just prior to performance. It is a cacophonous sound of individual musicianship, then a pause. The A sounds from the concertmaster, followed by the ensemble signaling that something cool is about to follow. Chills every time.

Interesting choice, but I can see the thrill of it..nice pick Tak.

Actually, the ABSOLUTE roar of the shocked 10,000+ home crowd and teammates, one time, as I ran thru the mark of a desperately shallow penalty kick in a rugby game to intercept the ball from a receiving stunned opponent's hands and staggered into the end zone against an overwhelmingly superior 'A' team touching down for 'tri' as they ganged, trying to prevent my putting down the ball (for score) in the end zone. We went ahead two points-held on for life (5 LONG minutes) and prevailed...My only solo scoring moment in four years, but especially satisfying as I had been appointed captain, and we were the tourney host team.

Which is an identical noise to a Spitfire, Hurricane, or 1950's Spanish Messerschmitt Bf 109's and Heinkel He 111's.

A few weeks ago we had a flyover by a Spitfire and that was very impressive.

Too numerous to mention but aircraft wise...the sound of the BoB Lancasters 4 Rolls-Royce Merlins as she flies low overhead, or the Vulcan bomber racing along the runway at take-off, the Frightening (can only accelerate close to take off speed these days and last but not least, the Typhoon coming in fast and low at the commencement of her display.
