Default Anyone know why TMO DD's have ridiculously strong bows?

Occasionally, I will use the Down The Throat shot on DD's and some escorts, with steam fish they turn away and usually nail them in the side, they are wiped out. However, just used Mark 18's off Tawi Tawi in 1944, nailed a DD right in the bow with two fish, he keeps on coming like its nothing, its a bit much.Anyone know how to fix this? And why they are like this.Definitely takes away from things.

There isn't much in the bow that is so vital they will stop. You need to hit where the damage can spread such as boilers and engines or magazines.

Remember it is a programed game so the damage levels will vary from ship to ship and class to class. The damage model on one DD might be different even within the same class to another DD

Trust me, if a DD took a torpedo to the bow, itd at the laest, stop it, they wouldnt keep charging in full speed. Luckily I run the LST and it flooded, went down by the bow.DD's are pretty fragile warships .Does seem to vary though, I ended up taking out five DD's on the patrol(Tawi Tawi in June 44) using down The Throat shot on three, using steam fish when they turned to avoid, other two were with track angles using Mark 18's. Just have to work around the "armored bows" lol

It's more an issue with damage zones, usually totally destroying one zone isn't enough.

I would think even a bow hit would cripple them pretty well. Does anyone know how many water-tight compartments they actually had?

I had a similar experience in the Aleutians in really foul weather. I managed to approach a DD on the surface, using radar, to within 500-800 yards, directly astern Fired a MK14 and hit but no discernable damage, it didn't slow down, nor did it alter its course - eventually I fired three more - all hit, no duds - it didn't seem to even notice.........

FWIW, my somewhat similar incidents went like this:

On one occasion I managed to hit a DD on the bow. It then turned around really fast and fled the area, although still at full speed, and rejoined the convoy.

A couple of days ago a torpedo set to magnetic trigger went off as it passed right in front of a DD. Same effect.

It appears to me hitting the DD's bow does not sink them, but reduces their usefulness for some reason. Since neither the magazine nor the roll-off's were affected, my guess is either they loose their active sonar, or simply their hull integrity is affected and they will not risk another hit.
Or maybe the crew got scared to death

I did not research DD's designs and equipment, so I could be wrong.

they don't have any damage zones in the bow of any ships so a direct bow shot does zero damage, in other words doing this without my torp mod means you may as well have missed because you wasted a torpedo.

this is why I did my torpedo mod and if you use the version 1 that adds just enough power to the torpedo so that a bow shot is able to do damage to the next zone under the forward gun so it eliminates the indestructible bows while not making a big difference in torpedo power so the number of torps needed to sink a ship stays the same.

its not perfect but it solves the bow problem without being a torpedo cheat.

of course you can use the version 2 that adds even more power if you want to use less torps or version 3 for a full cheat

With the Longer Sinking Times mod for TMO, which makes ships sinking in a much more realistic manner, it seems to work, just doesnt blow them up or stop them immediately if it hits the bow as it should. They usually do take on water and sink in a short period of time.I may try your mod to see what it does, version 1 anyways.

I take it, that this is a stock bug (problem)?

If you have recently sunk a ship, and one that appears identical to it appears after about 1-3 days, the game recreates / respawns the ship and it continues on its way. The thing is, when its respawned, it does so as indestructible.

No idea why it does that...
