Default Out of The Murk

How many times have you found yourself in rain and fog and out of the fog comes out something nasty, very nasty?

Here is one that happened to me recently.

In moderate seas we were patrolling just east of Rockal Bank, charging batteries and minding our own business. Visibility was around 300 meters.

A Granville freighter came out of the murk heading straight for us and opened up with its stern gun. Fortunately, we were too close and the freighter could not depress the gun enough to hit us. Scratching the freighter's paint, we dove while the gun kept firing away.

What is your murky story?

Just a few days ago on a patrol, while I was trying like heck to put myself in the middle of a convoy I was tracking with periodic hydrophone checks in crappy weather, a destroyer came charging out of the fog a few small hundred meters away.
His first shot smashed one of my diesels as he did his best to ram me. Thanks to my slow speed and wrecked diesel, my crashdive took a lot longer than usual.

He had to find me via radar. No other explaination.

Some days earlier in the same patrol at dawn, I spotted one of Rubini's Swordfish carrying a sound homing / U-boat crunching torpedo...

Both events were scary and got my blood pressure up, but the Sworfish hunting with that torpedo almost gave me a heart attack... even though he didn't spot us in the poor light.

One uneventful foggy patrol cruising on the surface to recharge batteries after a particularly teeth grinding depth charging i surfaced after verifying hydrophone was clear. 1 hour , or was it 2 in game a battle group rolls right over me from the fog. 3 open fire and do critical damage destroying both diesel and electric engines killing all in those compartments while a 4th ramms me. what little remained of hull integrity the surface was killed 1 minute later when a battleship opened fire. 1 or 2 rounds scoring a hit.
no idea how i lived up to the battleship but i did
