Default How to? Help appreciated

I would like to have a more realistic lens on the obs periscope, possibly he ones from RFB as the attack scope and obs scope look the same(as did in real life) .Anyone know how to do this?

If you're using a mod, deactivate them all from JSGME. Check out where in the mod the periscope files exist (perhaps under data/menu/skins/american/etc.) Open the image (.tga or .dds) in GIMP or Photoshop to mess with it, or simply replace the file with one from RFB.

Install the mod again, and test it out.

Rinse, repeat until you get it to your liking.

im not sure if that is accurate. I recall reading some where that while they "looked" the same at first, there were differences in the lines and markings

IIRC I think hitman did some work on the scopes after he did the TBT mod

My understanding was in earlier boats, both were same, both had stadimeters etc(they do in the game if you look at the model) and the Gato class(possibily the Tambor Gars as well) were made with an attack scope and observation scope.Basically the attack scope had the stadimeter and was for shooting, it was thinner and thus more difficult to spot, the observation scope was thicker with a larger head and transmitted light better but was not that much different, they both could have colored filters to help for low light conditions. I really liked the scopes in RFB, not a fan of the green crosshairs and drastically different look, esp when it does this to the older boats which did not have the advantage(well may have later in war) of the different scopes.I could be wrong but that is what I have gathered from reading various booksetc.

In the game at least, the attack scope has a thinner tube at the top, but the heads are the same.

Hitman's attack scope screen is slightly darkened with a transparent grey filter to simulate the lower light levels, but otherwise they are the same.

One thing that I can't get over is that the TBT has a split prism too! That does make me wonder how they calculated range on the surface. Mk.I eyeball?

I actually think I did the simply replace with RFB files once and it cause an issue, CTD. Been a long time ago and then I was away from SH 4 for a while.

O'Kane mentioned using 7x50 binocs, with a reticle graduated in milliradians. Of course, that doesn't mean other ways were not used as well.

Default Constant Bearing

Another thing to keep in mind is that if you use the constant bearing method of fire control, range gets taken out of the equation. No need for stadimeters or I.D. of the target either, at least so far as SH4 goes. All you need is target course and speed.

Thanks for that tip! From what I've read it also helps to have 0 degrees gyro angle on the torps too.
