None of the DVD patches are working. Apparently my menu.txt or anim.act files are unexpected versions. Thank you very much for your help, though

Expanded Navies And thank you for all your help

I presume you have the DVD version. I do not know if I am mixing up my memory for SH3 or SH4. There is different patches for what continent you are on. Is your Sh3 a downloaded version?

Send me a PM with your email address. Perhaps I can send the 1.4b versions of menu.txt or anim.act files to trick the patch. If your problem is in the registry, I can manipulate that, too. Send me the error note.

The support tab for this webpage has installation information.

I have used SH3 to SH5 from XP_32 bit to Windows 7_64 bit and they all work.

Cybermat47....

Just to get started on the right foot:
1.) What is your PC's OS?
2.) Is SH3 DVD based or a downloaded version? If it is a dvd, is the old version with starforce protection or the newer Gold version without starforce ( which would already be pre patched to 1.4b)?

Don't worry there are a lot of folks here that can help

Forgot to add this....here is a link to all the patches for SH3's different versions ( dvd and downloaded) http://www.silenthunteriii.com/uk/updates.php

Great advice and a great link. Just a reminder, the newer patched version is not called "Gold". SH3 Gold was a special release with some extras in a tin box, and is not a pre-patched version. Any version labeled 2008 or newer is good to go without patching.

Only having Windows XP I can't address the problem, but it may have to do with installing it outside of Program Files. Whatever it may be, hang in there. We have a lot of people who have installed it on all kinds of systems with no problems, and a lot of people who have had experience with all kinds of problems, so there will be someone who has been through this same thing, and will know what to do.

Even if the game does'nt work, thank you all for your help.

It's a DVD, not sure if it's Starforce protected.

Two strange things though... the installer didn't ask for the install code, and after installation I noticed that Silent Hunter 5 now read as Silent Hunter 5 Collector's Edition in the Uplay launcher!

That's weird. I don't know what it means.

Just check the date on the box. If it's 2008 or newer then that part's fine.

When I first installed SH3 on my new laptop I remember getting an error code when I tried to give it a test run after installing the 1.4b patch...don't remember what it said now. Also had a another problem so installed it again and I followed the advice in the sticky thread on how to play SH3 without the DVD.

#I installed SH3 and did not try to run it.
#I installed the patch (if you have the old version like I do)
#Then I installed the files for "no dvd" and it ran fine from that point on. It seems my PC had a problem with the original SH3 exec and once the no dvd patch with its modified SH3 exec was in place....no more problems. Edit: On a more recent install I did the same thing except I used Hsie's SH3 Patch Kit V16B1 which modifies the SH3 exec ( adds a lot of welcome changes to SH3) instead of the No DVD Patch with the same results....it runs fine.

Might give that a try, it solved my problems.

I think I've found my answer... Steam.

Is the Steam version of SHIII moddable?
