Default Should I buy Silent Hunter?

Well, Should I buy Silent Hunter V? Is there mods that make this game stable with no crashes and fun to play?

Yes.

If you look in the mods forum there is a sticky sobers mega mod which after you install the modlist takes the game close to where it should be.

I still play sh3 on my laptop when I travel but my main PC is sh5 all the way now.

I'd say yes.

The mods have come a long way and you can actually play now without a boat load of 'stock' frustration.

I purchased it today thanks mainly to this thread and the post by daftspore, and I did it by clicking on the link up top on the right to, I hope, help Subsim.

I've looked around it a bit after patching to 1.20...it is different than SHIII...wow. And the sober "mod" is confusing for an old fart like me.

I'm glad I got it and I thank the OP and daftspore for there posts!

Bill, you're not the only old fart here. LOL I fall into that catagory too.

Read all you can in the mod forums on how to install mods.... TDW's can be especially tricky. No offense meant to him, but even I can't seem to get his installed correctly to use. Some of the others here have lists they use that might be a bit easier for you... like me... to install. Note tho, that the only way SH5 is playable and not broken out of the box is to use mods.

Personally i would say no. I lost count of how much times i gave it a chance and always ended up uninstalling it with such a disappointed feeling. No matter what mods i used, i could never get into it. There was always something that was a game breaker to me.

There's one good thing about it though, it always makes me want to go back to SH4.
