Default Map with depth markings mod?

Is there a mod with a map who has marked depths? Somehow destroyers always caught me with my guard down so I don't had to ping the bottom below me...

Not that I know of but if there is I'm sure someone here will point you to it. As far as I am aware the depths on the SH3 map are not accurate geographically to the real world.

On the map screen, on your tools toolbar, click the question mark, then use the pencil tool. There will be a colored bar next to the tool. Match the color of the map section your sub is in with the color on the bar and the number associated with the color meter will be the approximated depth in that area.

You may want to combine the "get depth under keel" function with any diving command to get an instant actual depth report.
Depth pinging has no hostile consequences.The Atlas ping sound could be muted, if you don't like it.

I wondered this myself. I was afraid to use the 'depth under keel' incase a destroyer was listening and could hear it, thus locating my presence.

That has helped me too. I always thought I would give away my position.

Are you sure... I think I had red somewhere on these pages that you can lure destroyers in that way if you want to attack them? Or that depends of the year or type of a destroyer?

The SH3 manual states that it could give away your location.

EDIT:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...=128455&page=2

Link to thread that discusses this issue. It isn't detectable. A shame as it removes a certain gameplay element.

I had asked that same question myself a month or so again, as it's referenced on around page 32 of the vanilla version of the manual. However, I was roundly corrected by aficcionados of the GWX mos as being a "no incurred threat" function for users of GWX. I'd used it a couple of times for baiting in solo escorts whilst I had Type XI torpedoes (wow -- expensive!) ready to release at about 3500 meters. So either the GWX patch/mod restores the historical operational characteristics of the Atlas machine, or I was merely co-inky-dinkal in having the DDs turn towards me by doing a string of Atlas Echoes.
I'd always thought the Atlas was just a sonar/hydrophone unit pointed straight down, which I'd think was still detectable by anyone with a hydrophone and at least one good ear.
More experienced boat commanders tell me that, at least with the GWX package, it's not so.
One of these days I've still gotta wipe the drive on my Trojan-infected machine and start fresh. My kinda slow craptop machine *does* have GWX running, but things are so slow it's hard to tell....kinda like playing Eve on dial-up

Dunno if that helped, but since I've posed that same question, I thought maybe my exchanges would save you some time and wondering. As I re-read my response, I see I'm not really any more sure than I was before I asked.

That looks pretty interesting.
How can this be done?
Thank you.

In ....\Ubisoft\SilentHunterIII\data\Cfg\Commands_en. cfg find [cmd130] (or [cmd260] ?) "get depth under keel" and add the keys for the corresponding commands you wish to link with.

For crash diving:

[Cmd201]
Name=Crash_dive
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F230002
Str=1035
Key0=0x43,C,"C"

The last line shows the key information of this command. Copy this line to [cmd130]

[Cmd130]
Name=Get_depth_under_sub_keel
Ctxt=1
MnID=0x3F250005
Key0=0x43,C,"C"

If you add a second or third key to a command you have to count up the keys accordingly. There may be up to six keys per command iirc.

Key0=xxxx
Key1=yyyy
Key2=zzzz

Whenever you press one of the keys, the game runs through this cfg and works all the commands "in order of their appearance" from top to bottom of the file.

You may want to create command chains as described in this posting: http://forums.ubi.com/showthread.php...s-how-to-do-it!

Enjoy!

That question mark is the map tools helper. That will bring up the transparent cardinal direction ring when you plot your course, and a transparent degree compass with the ruler and protractor.
